1. It way overdue
IlanaB   (12.26.11)
Shame on us that we didn't do this years ago.
2. The Armenians nicknamed the jews in Turkey
turkish jew ,   tel aviv/israel   (12.26.11)
as "savon| which means soap.I never heard such a "joke" from a Turk.In the intercommunal war people from both sides died. Not possible ,and a complete disrespect to the memeory of our people ,to compare with the Holocoust.
3. should have been done in the 40's
ronen   (12.26.11)
dont you dare to tank this proposal
4. Israel has a duty ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.26.11)
.... to acknowledge the horrors of the Armenian genocide. Israel is, after all, the Jewish state, born out of the Holocaust. It was the massacre of millions of Armenians by the Turks that paved the way for what Nazi Germany did to the Jews. And if the Turks take offense -- well, too bad. Germany acknowledged its guilt for the Holocaust; the Turks should be made to acknowledge their culpability in the decimation of the Armenian people in Turkey. The international community has forced recognition of the murder of some eighty million Chinese by Mao's troops; and it has forced recognition of the excesses of Stalin upon the Russians. The Cambodians have been forced to face up to the evils of the Pol Pot regime, and the Rwandans have been made to acknowledge what happened in Rwanda. Why should Turkey be the sacred cow upon whom no blame should flow? Mass murder is mass murder, and it should not go unacknowledged. Turkey should be made to pay reparations to the surviving families of the massacred Armenians, or they will never take responsibility for the horrific genocide of the Armenian people. What better proof than Turkey's acts against the Kurdish people? No, Turkey must be held to account for acts of genocide. Not a category in which any country would want to claim pride of place, but the fact remains that Turkey's genocidal actions against the Armenian people paved the way for all acts of genocide since.
5. #2 systematic murder of a people
Rachel   (12.26.11)
what, in your opinion dear Jew from Turkey, is a genozid, a Holocaust- how many people have to be murdered to deserve the name Holocaust? One million, 3, 5? . it is YOU who is insensitiv- why? Because you are a Turk? Jews do not have an exclusive- as a people who have gone through it- Jews should have some sympathy to other peoples who experienced the same. The Roma, the Armenians.
6. Acknowledge the Truth, that is all
Happy Hanukah ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
7. Will Israel recognize all human suffering?
Ibrahim ,   Turkey   (12.26.11)
Will it recognize and remember the French genocide in Rwanda and Algeria? Will it recognize and remember the genocide of Azeri Turks by the Armenians? Will it recognize and remember the genocide and rape camps in Srebrenica? If you want to legislate the historical events of the 1890's why not pay a little attention to this century.
8. Oh only now we do it. Disgusting we waited so long
Sami ,   New York, USA   (12.26.11)
Oh only now we do it. Disgusting we waited so long.
9. In Egypt Armenian kids at school were antisemitic
Laila ,   Montreal, Canada   (12.26.11)
In Egypt Armenian kids at school were antisemitic. But Armenians are smart.
10. At parallel events thousands of Turks have been killed by
turkish jew ,   tel aviv/israel   (12.26.11)
Armenian gangs. It was a war not a holocoust.
11. Armenian Genocide
Abraham ,   Los Angeles   (12.26.11)
Time has come for Israel to recognize the Armenian Genocide and hold Turkey responsible for its consequences.
12. this is a fact that
Krater   (12.26.11)
the Armenians where indeed victim of a genocide by the Turks in 1915. But I don't think that it is up to the parlement of a state to make laws about these things. The main reason is that Armenian records regarding WWII are not so clean in regard with Holocaust, and also because Israel has others more immediate problem to deal with in regard of Iran and the so called arab-spring.
13. Reuvin Rivlin should Not forget the Turks!
Turkish Girl ,   Istanbul   (12.26.11)
Mr Rivlin is this how you say thank you to Turks? a nation that protected Jews for centuries from christian crusaders and anti-semites and who also gave many Jews fleeing the holocaust Turkish citizenship? Thanks! thanks alot.
14. If/when the "World" recognizes this as genocide we'll nod
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.26.11)
our heads in agreement. What does it take to "acknowledge" heaps of dead bodies as mass-murder? Obviously it is not so simple for the 'World"! Why then should we do it now? Because we don't play with the Turks anymore? At least let's keep up the pretense. We didn't do it sooner, just as France haven't done it out of political reasons. They're the ONLY reasons in this world. "Human Suffering" is for children....
15. Armenians
i love Israel ,   Germany   (12.26.11)
Imagine Jews were Armenians during the Nazi Holocaust ! What is the difference? And what about the Curds beeing murdered on a daily basis by these nationalist thinking Turks?Do we even know how many minorities were subjugatet inunder Turkish reign?
16. Not our business anyway
Robocop   (12.26.11)
what is the Armenian stance on Iran ?
17. suggestion:
Turkish   (12.26.11)
In that case why don't we MULL sending the NATO shield that is obviously mantled in Turkey in order to protect Israel...... to Erivan.
18. What about the Assyrian and Greek Genocides in Turkey?
(12.26.11)
Knesset must also recognize the Genocide of the Assyrians/Arameans and of the Greeks as well.
19. #13
Jorge ,   Israel/USA/Argentina   (12.26.11)
Do we need to thank the Turks for the latest policy from your goverment too? Do we nned to thank Erdy aliance with Hamas, the apology (youguys should have stopped the ship), the Erdy assault to Peres?
20. #15
Turkish Girl ,   Istanbul   (12.26.11)
#15 Enough with your Anti-turkism propaganda. Who are curds? It is Kurd not Curd ;-) and many Kurds in the eastern region are more a victim of family honour killings than of discrimination in Turkey. So get your facts right! Turkey has seen three kurdish PM's so the issue is not kurds at all but the internationally backed up PKK terrorist group.
21. Turkey
Gedaliah ,   Manhasset   (12.26.11)
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin says 'as a nation that experienced a holocaust, we cannot ignore this issue. Then why did it take Israel over 60 years to "suddenly remember"? Because it is only political
22. to #13 not true, turks expelled jews from
ghostq   (12.26.11)
TA in WW1. so much for protecting.
23. Not Useful
leo ,   nyc   (12.26.11)
It's too late to intervene in an event that took place many decades ago so what is the real intent of these hearings? There are no other problems for Mr Rivlin to deal with? Spare me the false sense of compassion, it will do little good for Israel, since the Armenians are not going to hand medals out to us for undertaking these discussions...
24. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.26.11)
That would be NATO's business, and we all realizae that NATO is just aching to boot Turkey. But was does it have to do with the Turkish genocide of the Armenian people?
25. "Who after all speaks today of the Armenian genocide?"
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.26.11)
- Hitler, August 22, 1939 The ease in which they were forgotten, that we all let them be forgottem, made it so practical to conclude that once we would be gone no one would miss us either. If there is a nation on this earth that should be the first to recognize the genocide of the Armenians it is Israel.
26. Racism
Anders ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (12.26.11)
So armenians are evil and smart? As a group? All of them? Interesting...have you ever heard about racism?
27. What about-ism
Anders ,   Stockholm   (12.26.11)
So if you're nice to one group of people, it's ok to kill another 1,5 million people of another group? Hitler was nice to the austrians, alas it should be ok to invade Poland, right?
28. # 20
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (12.26.11)
Turkish girl, we should stop with anti-Turkish propaganda? And your anti-Israel propaganda can continue, right? And you will keep on sending piss flotillas to support bunch of terrorists in Gaza? Strange view.
29. The Foreign Ministry's statement is shameful
Canadian lawyer ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.26.11)
History cannot be divorced from politics. A country that denies a holocaust that it perpetrated on another people is not one that the Jewish state (of all states) can transact with. Israel cannot continue to have a pact with the devil for cynical raisons d'etat without compromising its own meaning and significance.
30. #11 - posthaste!
