1. how interesting
Emily ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
what started out as a problem on buses in Jerusalem quickly moved to intercity buses and then whoosh we've moved into right into focusing on one place...Beit Shemesh. Now really truly is Beit Shemesh the only place in the land with problems like this?
2. Beit Shemesh
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (12.26.11)
This harassment and bullying of women and girls will come to an end. It is not only against the Torah, but illegal. If this, G-d forbid, continues, I not only see some Haredim going to jail, but many lawsuits filed.
3. Why????
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (12.26.11)
Why don't they act against them as they act against national Zionists who yes serve in the army, work and love HaShem as mucho as this fanatics? Maybe because Barak is not afraid of them? Maybe because Bibi is afraid for his coalition?
4. THERE IS NO ROOM ISRAEL FOR HAREDI DOGMAS!
stude ham   (12.26.11)
this is yet another disgusting example of haredi dogma gone totally out reality.
5. sad when crazies take over the limelight
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (12.26.11)
With 99.9% of charadim law abiding, these few riff-raff that do not seem to know or care about halacha parade themselves off as G-d's gift to Judaism. Perhaps a few weeks in jail will soften their hard shell.
6. Haredi riots
Mike ,   UK   (12.26.11)
The writting has been on the wall for a long time, Israel faces an identity crisis of what the State should be, religous or secular. The Arabs can just sit back and enjoy the show.
7. Nutters
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (12.26.11)
What's wrong with these people? What nonsense is in their heads? What have they got against women? What are they gaining out of all this? Women are 52% of the population. Completely unbelievable.
8. radical aliens
Berk ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (12.26.11)
Send these radical aliens to another planet. They do not belong here.
9. Haredi fanatics
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.26.11)
They keep pushing to see where and when they will be stopped, if at all. We must continue to refuse to accept these attempts to force all of us to live according to their interpretation of the Bible and the Talmud. Let them get away with one thing and they will push for another and another and another...
10. How Ironic that these hardiem
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.26.11)
aer able to be violent against other Jews mainly women and children but yet refuse to be in the army where they can easly release all there violent tendencies toward the enemy but yet claim they will not join the army as they are studying the Tora. I wonder if these same hardiem fight when arabs attack them?? BUSHA!!!!!
11. Hurry up with the Constitution
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.26.11)
Write it, accept it, and enforce it. Anybody who wants to be a citizen in Israel needs to obey its constitution, needs to pledge allegiance to the state with its laws. Otherwise, he/she will not be allowed to live in Israel. Straight, pure, simple, like in America. Knesset members, hurry up, stop living the lazy life of parasites. Make writing and ratifying a constitution the number one priority.
12. These same people burn the Israeli flag
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.26.11)
Punshment for flag burning must result in revoking there ID cards in addition no social benifits they so take advantage of. Leave Israel or obey the law and contribute to society.
13. Shtetl days again anyone?
Rika N ,   Toronto   (12.26.11)
There really is only one option left over, that is immediately begin negotiations with Poland to buy some land and reinstate the shtetls. Clearly that's what they want, nothing more, nothing less. And with the amount saved on welfare benefits, the land purchases should amortize themselves within a few years.
14. #1
Eliza ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
Firstly....what's your point? Secondly....what does it matter whether or not Beit Shemesh is or isn't the only place in the land with problems like this? There is drama going on there right now as we speak so that's why it's on the news. And...by the way...do you know anywhere else in the land that is having a problem just like this one???
15. #2
Liza ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
Firstly, you have to be here to understand the situation in Israel fully. Also, it's more complicated than you think and anyway whoever goes off to jail deserves to be there because they did what it takes to get them there in the first place....like spitting at 8 year old little girls???
16. shame
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
I wonder how they treat their wives & female children. They are already a laughing stock of the world.
17. Crown Heights No. 2
leo ,   nyc   (12.26.11)
Ironic how two decades after the riots in .Crown Heights, which were anti-semitic in nature, some Hassids are doing the same thing in Israel. Namely, they feel they are above the law, live on welfare and attack those who are not the same as them. The Mayor of NYC, David Dinkins, was long remembered for his failure to act against the rioters. Israel, remember and learn...act forcefully now against these thugs who really are false Jews.
18. They spit on the Torah, cause violence, act as if they
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.26.11)
were above Hashem instead of treating people with respect. This is the same mentality as the taliban, take a good idea and go so far with it that the people are worthless and the rules are the king. So sad.
19. Can it be that arab spring is infectious
meghan ,   israel   (12.26.11)
and we are going to have our own little civil war...Jewish Spring!!! And this is what they call religion??? I can respect the haredim and want them to respect hilonim, but they dont respect even the Torah, so for me they are black devils who are creating a Jewish hell (something we dont have as of yet!)
20. #11 - Hurry up!
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (12.26.11)
YES! Israel needs a clear, straightforward constitution, that defines her as a Jewish state, that defines its institutions, that defines the basic values, rights and duties. 2nd, I believe these hareidim have too much energy left. Sitting all day long in the school obviously isn't demanding enough. They need some sports, some drill and exercise! I have seen so many male hareidim being thin as a stick! Having no physical exercise and circling day and night around spiritual issues seems to drive quite a few of them nuts!
21. Land in Poland
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (12.26.11)
To No 13. Before the 2nd World War Jews constituted 10% of all population in Poland. No doubt Polish Government should rather simply RETURN to Jews their fair share of Poland, including land. Why buy what was rightfully and legally ours?
22. These fanatics are Netura Karti
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (12.26.11)
who we all know are totally out of the mainstream. They are in harem(shunned or excommunicated) by all other haredi groups. After some of them went to Teheran for Achmenanutjob's "Holocaust" conference a few years ago, no other haredim will have anything to do with them. In Monsey they are persona non grata. No one will do business with them, their kids have been kicked out of yeshivahs and one family was kicked out of a kosher hotel in Brooklyn a few years ago. Even the Satmars dont like them. A lot of thee are Americans. They should be deported to the USA.
23. MK Yishai
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.26.11)
First he supports enforced separation by noting that women don't play on men's sports teams, but now he is against it. Enforced separation in both Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh involve violence. Hmmm...
24. V'ahavta l're'acha ka'mocha
joe ,   Newtown, USA   (12.26.11)
... Live by it and stop your uncalled for acts of shame and degrading of women. Reading "Eshet Cha'yil" and acting in complete contradiction to its message is without a doubt the most Hippocratic act you can do.
25. Haredim
Amos PIcker ,   Fremont, CA. USA   (12.26.11)
We do not need to wait for Iran to destroy Israel. We, within, are doing it just fine, methodically, systematically, and with the blessing of the government.. The spread and influence of the Ahredim, in the treatment of women on the bus, in the City on the street, the closure of a Jerusalem on the Sabbath, the interior ministry controlled by fanatics, is non but the cancer is killing Israel. No Iron dome shield, or any other protection will save it from this disease, that is supported by the God that these fanatics warship.
26. Small-scale rioting is ineffective.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.26.11)
If people already have a bad opinion of your group then rioting will only make it harder for you to get your way. It just enforces their negative views of you. A group as small as this one should try passive resistance. What they're doing right now makes them appear as nothing more than violent thugs.
27. Hillul Hashem
Jan ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
These Hareddi rioters need to stop creating a hillul Hashem by fanatic demonstrations.
28. it breaks my heart seeing jews against jews
Ester   (12.27.11)
the last time a jew stood against a jew the beis hamikdosh was destroyed
29. "extremist Hareidim"
steve ,   NY,NY   (12.27.11)
The people who try to intimidate little girls and throw feces at fellow Jews should not be called "extremist Hareidim" etc. If they were Hareidim who truly feared Hashem , they wouldn't behave this way. One need not be a psychologist to see that these are mentally ill people who have extreme anger issues and are practitioners of "sinat chinam". They belong in psychiatric hospitals, in prison, or in front line army units where they can fight our real enemies instead of innocent Jewish women and children.
30. How to stop the unpleasantness
Loyal Jew ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
Do as the Torah says. No mingling of genders. No immodestly dressed girls in the streets. Come on, MOs of Beis Shemesh. You know you went too far with your modern ways. Now you're in an alliance with the seculars and their TV crews. Back down and the unpleasantness will stop right now.
