1. How does such a tiny apartment cost so much?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.27.11)
Our apartment in the Upper East Side is much larger and costs 6.000 a month in maintenance. This place is a rip off.
2. Last tenant only cared about his plumbing

3. What a primitive nation we are...
R....ready for bed   (12.27.11)
Why has this made the 'news'? Is this interesting? Are we so boring to actually have such lame items as newsworthy?
4. If we did not have the office of the

president(unelected) think of all the money that would be saved. Money that could be used to buy Trophy anti missile systems for our tanks and A.P.C.s. for example. Or to help pay for another Iron Dome battery Also if contractors built affordable housing for army vets instead of luxury apartments for foreigners, then it might help Jerusalem stay a Jewish city with a younger working population
5. Pres saving money...
in the know ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
yes, he's saving money. All one needs to do is compare the price of this apartment in Jerusalem to the prices of the rental apartments for Israeli ambassadors around the world. Once that has been done, one will see that the apartment the president is renting is less expensive than 95% of the apartments rented for Israeli ambassadors serving abroad!

LOL, that was funny! but thats not nice! i dont get this article either! are we supposed to get all upset cause our taxes are partly paying for this? what do people actually expect Our President to rent a cheap apparment in Lod or Ramle, to save money?
7. Katsav praying in prison brought judgment on the
Rivkah   (12.27.11)
President's residence for the suggestion of removal of his statue there. Or, perhaps the flood waters of judgment were to cleanse the place. Looking back on my life, HaShem often destroyed a building where I was attacked wrongly. Was the flood for a wrongful conviction of Katsav and a judgment on the whorish women who worked there? There was a defilement of Katsav and the office and the women who enticed him to sin.

He is elected by the Knesset, having a President is important for several reasons, I won't bore you with the details as it is obvious that it is irrelevant to you.
9. 1 Henry from NY, USA: There are security costs as well as
Rivkah   (12.27.11)
rental costs. When you consider that it costs $6,000. a month to be in a nursing home with complete care in America, $5,000. a month for a residence for a President of the nation of Israel is not that much. Obama is spending $14 million dollars of US taxpayers dollars on a couple of weeks in Hawaii.
10. PLUS---the President's residence needs a fallout shelter for
Rivkah   (12.27.11)
when Iran nukes Jerusalem. Obama is building another one under the White House, as if 19 floors under the White House are not sufficient for shelter from attacks. Maybe a missile can go 19 stories down and not 20, so an addition is being made. It's not their money, so they don't care.

4,800 square feet is your idea of small? I've got 9,600 square feet, spread over two floors, and I pay only $8,575 a month in maintenance. You need to move to the West Side, sweetie.

I don't believe that most Israelis are bothered by the concept of a president. I think they are immensely bothered by the concept of Peres as president. I certainly am. Besides -- the man is worth a fortune, thanks to Tadiran. Let him pay his own freight.
13. @7 r u 4 real?

because if you are, woman, put a sock in it, your insanely stupid is showing!
14. The President's temporary apartment
Spencer ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
a) The apartment is NOT a small one. b) what is all the fuss about? The President of Israel is entitled to live in a luxury apartment; c) Have the responders to this article who seemed to complain about the "move" got nothing better to do with their time, other than look for things to complain about What dull lives they must lead!

YNet is reporting on world news. Who cares? It's not affecting you and the day itself has very little remaining religious significance. For me it's decorate everything time. We have trees and lights on everything, but it's the khanukkiah that gets the prayers and special treatment. The "Happy Chanukah" banner is hung outside and a Magen David wreath is on the door. On the flagpole outside the Israeli flag is proudly flying. Don't fret about the day. Enjoy it! Nazi Germany and Egypt are examples of the fundamental flaw in the democratic system - that the majority can be suckered into doing something that they regret in the long run. In this case though it is working by not having the kharedim impose their will on the rest of the Jewish State. You misunderstand what I mean there. Google "an hero". #9, but it's a temporary residence, not a permanent one so I don't think they'd build a new shelter. There's probably already some in Jerusalem. As for security, I'm no expert, but I'd think that Peres would have his own security detail assigned by the government wouldn't he? Who would pay 5.000 USD for that?! God let my body rot in the ground if I ever stick my parents in one of those places. Indeed, when he should be working. A President shouldn't take a lot of vacation; the job is meant to be difficult. Speaking of Presidents. Wouldn't it be better for the President of Israel to live in a more spartan manner? He is meant to symbolise Israel and it would be nice if he lived more like the pioneering kibbutznikim than a decadent American. Know what I mean? #11, I think ours is about 10.000 square feet, but on one floor of the building; granted it takes up 2/3 of that floor, but still. It's got a master bedroom with attached bathroom, two secondary bedrooms with attached bathroom, a foyer, a long bedroom hallwaty (one connecting bedrooms), a large living room, a good-sized dining room, and a long kitchen that has a breakfast room and a maid's room with attached bathroom (it was built before WWI even). I would, but now that there is a Fairway on 86th Street, there's really nothing that the Westside has that the UES does not.

The "president" of Israel is a billionaire, thanks to Tadiran. He can afford to pay for his own temporary digs. Come to think of it, he can pay for his own permanent digs, can he not? He does not need to live on the backs of the Israeli taxpayers, of which I am one. If you are so inclined, you are free to pay for his lodging. Me -- not so much, thank you.
17. So much for supporting the "little people's" revolution....
Shame on Shimon ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
Easy to do from a golden hilltop. Come down and live like the rest of us or stop being a hypocrite.
18. The post at No. 13 is not mine
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.27.11)
Gee. There's a surprise!
19. #6 Thank You it was not nice what he did.
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.27.11)
20. Sarah , you don't like Our PRESISENT ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.27.11)
And you seem to forget the services he rendered to our country . No president , worldwide , has to pay for his residence , billionaire or not . There is NO reason he should pay .Give me source of your "Billionaire" .

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.27.11)
Have you any idea what Tadiran is worth? Do your own damned research. For your information, Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York City, has chosen NOT to live in Gracie Mansion, and collects the princely salary of $1.00 per year. Moreover, I'm not clear on the "services" that Peres has brought to Israel. It seems he is intent on creating divisiveness among Israelis and hell bent on knuckling under to terrorists. Is that your idea of "services?" It isn't mine.

Why are you still residing at home, living off your parents' good will? Why don't you go out and get a job?

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.28.11)
Were it up to you, how much do you contribute to the maintenance? Yeah. That's what I thought. You need to move to Brighton Beach, or some place. Oh, but you like the Upper East Side, don't you:? Well .... start collecting a salary, Henry. If you like living on the Upper East Side all that much, it behooves you to pull your weight. I suspect that's rather a new and disturbing concept for you, isn't it?' OH MY GOODNESS! Working for a living! Who'd have thunk?
24. Tsourele , What's the relation Peres-Tadiran
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.28.11)
Is Shimon Peres the owner of Tadiran ? NO . Has he some interests in it ? maybe . But does this make him a billionaire ? Give me the proof that Shimon Peres is a billionaire . But it's most likely again one of your LIES . What other people do has no importance , we are in Israel . And maybe that NY mayor makes a lot of money , not in salary , but by other means . And he IS a billionmaire , a true one [ lists of biggest US fortunes ]
