I am unaware of any indictments or charges -- or, for that matter, proof, that Jews were responsible for defacing any mosques. Plenty of proof that Arabs were responsible -- they've done it before; lots of times. All of it well documented. If the soldiers were to leave the settlers in peace, nothing would happen to them. Jews living in their own land should not be molested; least of all by functionaries of the State.

It is obvious that the actions of the accused were those of attempted murder. Here in the USA, we do not give a slap-on-the-wrist sentence of a mere 4 years for attempted murder. We also deport criminals at the end of their sentence if they are illegal settlers. And we certainly do not release our prisoners in exchange for a hostage. Israel should follow our example and maybe she won't have as many problems with the Arab population who illegally remained in Israel after the partition.
