1. Jewish values
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.27.11)
They want us all to live according to their own interpretation of the Bible and Talmud. That is totally unacceptable. Extremists and rioters should be arrested and not released like the man seen on video spitting on a woman!
2. The bills that should be introduced...
Sue ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
All due respect to the MK for championing womens rights, as a woman and a mother I'd like to see more years imprisonment for rapists and peadophiles than 'anyone who incites women's exclusion'. How is it reasonable for a rapist to get 4 years in this country while a bill is introduced prescribing 3 years for incitement?
3. This is a demonstration against Religious Coercion!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.27.11)
But if anyone, including Minister Livnat who is more concerned with attacking Livni than serving the people, thinks that the Prime Minister will do anything about it, they are delusional! Simply, Netanyahu's over stuffed Government cannot survive without the religious extremists and the Ultra-Orthodox! Bibi will do anything to survive as Prime Minister. This is evident by Israel's international isolation. He fights our "friends" instead of fighting for the world to see who the REAL enemy of civilization is - Islamic Fundamentalism and not so Fundamentalist!
4. Ashamed
Laurence ,   Beer Sheva   (12.27.11)
The worst thing about this public outcry about exclusion of women is knowing that there will be those watching this in Germany, or Poland or Russia who will think - Maybe Hitler (machshimo) had the right idea. His anti Jewish propoganda posters and films featured the same black dressed, bearded men, with peyot...
5. Old Haredi trick to drive out other Jews from their area.
naro ,   nyc   (12.27.11)
When I was a little boy I was constantly spit upon and harassed by ultra orthodox children in Jerusalem where my family lived for 100 years before. Their plan was to harass the secular Jewish children so much that their parents would get disgusted, and move out of the neighborhood, and sell the building for a little money to the Haredis. My family was so disgusted that they packed up and moved out of Israel to the USA where we were never harassed, and we built a wonderful life. To this day when I see an ultra-orthodox man or woman I get a sense of nausea and disgust. I hate them more then I can describe.
6. How Long?
Phillylooks ,   Philadephia USA   (12.27.11)
Since the declaration of statehood, Israel's governments have worked hard to provide a place for all members of the population. However, over the years, the insistence of the Orthodox movement on their position as the sole seat of religious authority has had increasingly negative consequences for the State. First among them is the alienation of most of the population from the rich variety of Jewish belief and observance that more than 5,000 years of history have produced. While this claim has been established for political reasons, it remains remarkable that the voting population shows, at least up until now, such passivity. Inevitably, as any group becomes convinced that only they understand and express the will of their deity, the desire for control expands. This leads to an ever increasing conflict with the society at large. I would not be surprised if there are more such incidents. Eventually, Israel will have to deal with the divisive but necessary issue of the separation of religion and politics. Eventually, Israel will have to acknowledge the need for religious freedom for Jews and take appropriate steps.
7. RELIGIOUS RIOTERS
DANIEL BERK ,   HAMILTON, CANADA   (12.27.11)
stick them in the same prisons as the terrorists, because that what they are, those that terroris for religion belong together
8. This MUST Stop!!
Dan ,   Florida   (12.27.11)
Would the Haredi deny Golda Meir? You are falling into the dark embrace of medieval ignorance that has so gripped the barbaric Muslims in the Middle East. We are JEWS...we are above that level of medieval ignorance. It is one thing if the Haredi want to live that way but they cannot dictate to others.
9. There are a few subjects here.
nibor ,   israel   (12.27.11)
Segregating women on busses should be forbidden. Busses are public. Let religious men buy their own busses and do what they want, if their wives let them. Second, there are violent and aggressive men all over the country, not just in the ranks of the religious. Protest all of them.
10. the Haredi sould be left alone
Yossi   (12.27.11)
No matter what you people think out their, the haredi should be left alone. We need to stay out of their hair and they'll stay out of ours. I think the best solution is to simply put signs up or make sure that everyone knows that that area is haredi and that way they can torture their own women, women who apparently believe that this is the way to live. In the end its a win-win situation, they leave us alone, they remain with their own crazy ideals...
11. Religious Terrorism
Joe ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
It makes no difference. A terrorist - be he Arab or Haredi - is still aterrorist and should be dealt with accordingly.
12. it's not an israeli thing
frumwoman ,   israel   (12.27.11)
I got snickered and started and for not dressing appropriately in Boro Park in good ole brooklyn.. people are cruel everywhere. ever been to williamsburg???
13. Religious is a misnomer for these men
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (12.27.11)
Behaviour as for sects, have more respect for their garb , beards, payot shtreimels, than values of Torah, Learn Torah as a passtime and to opt out of army and work but never live it. I do not consider them religious at all, and look at them with disdain, as they often committ crimes forbidden to us Jews; I will not list them for not wishing to degrade the rest of G-d fearing Jews.
14. We dont need Jewish Taliban.
Alan ,   SA   (12.27.11)
15. these. are. not. religious. principles.
Aviva ,   Pittsburgh   (12.27.11)
these are chumras - the religious principle everyone including chilonim need to be following is fighting sinat chinam
16. Welcome to the neighborhood....
Rashid ,   Chicago, IL   (12.27.11)
Slowly but surely, you are turning into just another country in the neighborhood. You are recognizing our ways and integrating into the region. Your treatment of women is gradually becoming like us Arabs. Only a matter of time until you completely fit in to the neighborhood. In case you need hijabs and burkas please let us know, we will be happy to send you as many as needed.
17. I have always maintained
Sagi   (12.27.11)
that religion, especially in extreme, is a psychotic state of mind. This is the living proof. It is without doubt a mental illness.
18. Very good, Aviva @#15
Israeli 2   (12.27.11)
19. To # 5, Naro
Yonatan ,   Los Angeles, USA   (12.27.11)
I also grew up in Israel and immigrated to the US out of disgust. But not just because of the radical Chassidim. I was also sickened by the disgusting behavior of the secular Israelis who are corrupt to the core and no better than their Satmar cousins. Till this day I get a sense of nausia and disgust every time I see an israeli or hear Hebrew spoken. I hate Israel and Israelis more than I can describe. G-d bless America, land of the free and home of the brave!
20. None so blind...
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (12.27.11)
..As those that cannot see and we have largely allowed so much of this to to happen to us without standing up for our country. It would be facile le the Haredi segregation row sideline us into forgetting all the many equally pressing issues we have to deal with. There's a whole package and we have to open it up and confront the entire contents. Unless we the people, we the citizens of this country, do this together, and do it now, it'll be gone from us. What will we tell our grandchildren - Loh Haya - Mah La'Asot -there was nothing to do - Loh Hayita Breirah - there was no choice?
21. #10 - the problem is they don't leave us alone
Orot parent ,   Bet Shemesh   (12.27.11)
If only what you were true - that we could just stay out of their hair and they'll stay out of ours. This is not the case in Bet Shemesh. They come into our neighborhoods and smash the windows of a women's underwear store, they break into cars to steal Israeli flags on yom ha'azmaut, they hang around our schools harassing our elementary school children. They don't live and let live. And we were here first.
22. # 5
Dan ,   Ny,Ny   (12.27.11)
I'm sorry for what happened to you. I can assure you that the people who treated you this way are not representative of all orthodox, modern orthodox, or far right Jews. The world has enough anti- jewish venom without us adding to it.Let us learn to respect one another, and not paint all Jews of one subgroup with a broad brush. L'chaim!
23. This is a vsymptom of poor Central and Local Government
(12.27.11)
This is a symptom of poor Central and Local Government that turns a blind eye to antisocial behaviour and lawbreaking from groups right and left , haredi and secular , arab and jew.
24. And yet
agokoy ,   cebu   (12.28.11)
Israel had Golda Meir even way before the "enlightened" Americans, who may never have a woman president within the next 50 years. Let them be noisy, the song remains the same.
25. There's a difference. You just became an antisemite.
opposite   (12.28.11)
26. Let the punishment fit the crime.
Sidney ,   USA   (12.28.11)
The appropriate punishment for people like the man who assaulted Naama Margolese is to be marched naked down a main street guarded by a contingent of women police. This would deter these fools.
27. #6 You're right: Politic + Religion = Haredistan
Salomon ,   France   (12.28.11)
The Haredim, will tell you that we are different of Radical Haredim (Sicarii) we are peacefull etc... But in the backyard they' re helping each other It's the same thing when muslim brotherhood tell to the media we have no link with Radical Islam The illness is the Religion mix to Politic Little by little the Haredi demography will kill israeli democraty wake up now HAREDISTAN is behind the door
28. Haredism
Yahudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.28.11)
Religious coercion must be made a serious crime. Haredim, or anyone else, who does it should be arrested, convicted, and punished with a severe jail sentence. Israel should legislate to have complete separation between church and state. In my view, religious fanaticism is disgusting and evil.
29. Just wondering
A Simple Jew ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.28.11)
If all of you that re so up in arms at the supposed "exclusion" of woman, are as equally incensed by the pervasive exploitation of woman, particularly by the media. How many of you have protested the myriad of posters, advertisements and television ads featuring young girls, sometimes as young as nine or ten, made up to look like sex kittens? It is wrong to spit on a fellow person. In fact, that's written quite clearly in the Shulchan Aruch. But, it's also quite offensive to walk down a public street in Jerusalem or anywhere and be embarrassed by what I see. Where is the demonstration against "Secular Coercion?"
30. #19 Yonatan
R ,   Israel   (12.28.11)
You hate Israel and Israelis for "disgusting behavior" yet you are always on Ynet, and your own behavior as reflected in your hateful posting would, using your logic, cause me to hate you and all Israeli yordim. I don't, because I haven't sunk to your level.
