Josh S ,   USA   (12.29.11)
The recent behavior of Turkey should be a lesson to Israel about the price of abandoning its principals for the sake of expediency. They hypocrisy of failing to recognize someone else's holocaust when we demand our own be remembered is absurd. Hitler thought that he could get away with his crimes against us specifically because the Armenian genocide was forgotten. That is why ALL genocides must be recognized and remembered.

John   (12.29.11)
5. hanoch daum is dumb
alexi   (12.29.11)
israel does not live by itself. Notwithstanding problems with haniyeh's brotherhood in ankara, israel cannot fight every battle. In fact chosen people has been an albatross around its head. No, its not israel's place to start another needless battle. Armenians and turks will need someone else to sort out the history. israel should stay the hell out of it. Whether its lapid, shifer, now daum, israeli growing pains are still ongoing. Daum is dumb.
6. It's the right thing to do and......
Justin ,   Canada   (12.29.11)
the Turks asked for it.
7. a spade
real vision ,   usa   (12.29.11)
It is time that honorable nations call a spade a spade and turkey should now own up to its slaughter of Armenians
8. Turks Shoah
A.Noronha ,   Belem - Brazil   (12.29.11)
Very good article, thank you for having read, I mean that in Brazil we have an expression very popular about unscrupulous people or senseless of respect ... “You are Turkish”!!!
9. Way overdue. We should be ashamed
Sami ,   New York, USA   (12.29.11)
Way overdue. We should be ashamed.
10. Recognition of Armenian Genocide !
Mark ,   T.a. Israel   (12.29.11)
In the International Relations Mutual Interest ( Real Politic) comes before Sentiments ) as General de Gaulle said!
11. Agree 100%
David ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.29.11)
Its about time. I felt like dirt whenever the subject of the Armenian Genocide comes up as if I 'm carrying the Turks dirty water. No More.
12. Not Diplomatic
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (12.29.11)
That would not be diplomatic at all . Bear in mind that almost all countries have dirty linen to be washed and many skeletons in the closet . Want a hint ? Aborigines , Maoris , Red Indians of all the Americas , Gypsies , Blacks , Kurds, Berbers, etc...! In 1984 diplomatic quarrel broke out when the then-Australian premier rebuked France for its " unfair " treatment of the natives in France's Caribbean territories .The french president at that time shot back by reminding Australia of its " unfair " treatment of the Aborigines ! But such tit-for-tat policy did not benefit either of them . One would have to be clean and impartial before attempting to judge others and hold them accountable for what they did ... ! Yet one correct step to check the arrogance of others is by letting the free press do the job instead of an official government retaliation ... !
13. Armenian Genocide - yes
George Brown ,   New York   (12.29.11)
no better time than now to recognize it. Most countries that count have recognized it. The reason it is mostly leftists in Israel that talk about it is simple - they have been so badly marginalized in Israel politics, that they can allow themselves to be "irresponsible". But this is a case where it will be better to follow the heart, and be "irresponsible".
14. I am so sorry our leaders don't see it
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.29.11)
It is a matter of principal - not malice. For the Armenians it was every bit as terrible as the Shoah, for the exact same reasons. To each and every Armenian - true Jews mourn your loss as if it was our own family. I just wish every Israeli saw it the same way
15. Calling what occurred to Armenians a
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (12.29.11)
"Holocaust" shows Daum's ignorance in spades. Maybe he needs to familiarize hmself with what happened to Jews, the propaganda, the concerted efforts to despise Jews, the economic deprivations, the theft of property, the cruelties, the tortures ("The Nazi Doctors") all in the name of a socalled higher purpose. We really don't need this man (Daum) having the benefit of an audience.
16. EVEN the French speak the truth, NOW is the time.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.29.11)
17. We need to appoligize to the Armenians
David M.   (12.29.11)
I am a firm supporter of Israel even when I don't completely agree with some of the Israeli governments' decisions. I always feel that they have more information than I do and that after all they will feel the consequences of their actions. However, for years I thought that ignoring the Armenian Holocaust by the Israeli establishment was highly immoral, regardless of what it brought us from Turkey. There are some lines we should never cross or in this case have to cross despite the consequences. Now, it's quite clear that appeasing Turkey and denying the Armenian holocaust made us look hypocritical versus our own Holocaust while it brought us nothing in return. It is the high time, even belatedly, to take a moral stand, and acknowledge the tragedy of the Armenian people. As Jews we should have been the first ones to do so.
18.  Daum is a REVISIONIST ! Don' t talk about Shoah for armenia
red scorpion   (12.29.11)
It is a massacre but not the Shoah ! Shame on u !
19. Turkey should remember the genocide they did
(12.29.11)
and should realize that they have NO moral higher ground over Israel on ANY subject.
20. Never push the Turks into the corner.
Jack ,   Brussels   (12.29.11)
I'm often amazed by those telling that things couldn't be worse. Please consider that Turks are able to make things even worse, and they will do. The time was best when relationships with Turks were very good, and when relationships between Israel and its neighbours were good too. Then Turks couldn't have hurt much Israel. Now every hit will hurt very much. It is unfortunate that Israel is not in position to recognize the Armenian genocide. What can be done is to make much noise about it, again and again, but always falling short of adopting the resolution. Even create a Armenian section in Yad Vashem. This will hurt the Turks but they will have no ground for any reaction.
21. Thank you,Hanoch Daum
Hamasdegh ,   Annandale,USA   (12.29.11)
I welcome the thoughtful article written by Hanoch Daum. As an Armenian I have never asked Israel to do anything for me as I have considered the recognition of the Armenian Genocide as its moral responsibility and an expression of its own standing in the international community vis-a-vis all genocides. Up to now Israel has brought into play its "friendly" relations with Turkey to placate all efforts to recognize the Armenian Genocide in the Israeli Knesset, repeating that this matter is for historians to decide.Well my friends that phase was gone many, many years ago. If Israel is ready to sacrifice its moral obligation to political considerations, then there is very little anybody can do. My hope is that one day the Israeli public opinion will DEMAND such recognition.
22. Armenian "Shoah"??
Sarah Rembiszewski ,   Israel, Herzlia   (12.29.11)
Please have in mind that "Shoah" and "Holocaust" are terms to describe the specific and yes unique murder of the Jewish people during the nazi era. This fact does not in any case minimise the terrible tragedy of the Armenian people, the Great Crime as they describe it themselves.
23. israel without a doubt should
anton ,   Ist turkey   (12.29.11)
Recognize it :)
24. Israel's hypocrisy
Commentator ,   Israel   (12.29.11)
I'm ashamed of the fact that my nation, whose fathers and grandfathers were victims of the Holocaust doesn't acknowledge another genocide because of political reasons. How can Israel claim it has a higher moral ground when in fact it prioritizes material gains above justice? The truth is, Israel has become increasingly corrupt and extremely selfish. Hell, most of the news you hear these days are not even about Israel-Palestinian fighting anymore, but about internal Israeli disputes (haredim vs seculars). Israel has no longer a higher moral ground.
25. Shame on Israel !!!.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.29.11)
The Good thing You want Others to do to You, You should also do to Them !!!. To not Recognise is the Other side of the Coin as to denie. Arn.Sweden.
26. Why ?
Tom ,   New York   (12.29.11)
There is no disputing that the Armenians were massacred , but a holocaust it definitely doen't qualify . By the way what about the Armenians who seved in the Nazi army.
27. Garbage
Talat Pasha ,   TURKEY   (12.29.11)
Turkey has MANY MANY GASLIGHTERS in his hands and U.S. KNOWS IT VERY WELL. Dancing with the Turks are not dancing with RECEP Erdogan. During WWII, I havent seen any Jewish gangsters (with Russian rifles) in the mountain or I havent heard "Murderer Guerilla praising" Yiddish legends, ballads, sagas... We have UNFORGOTTEN "HIDDEN" RIGHTS. Go and call your Master.
28. to #25 from what I know Armenians kept
ghostq   (12.29.11)
quiet duing WW2, when they saw jews massacre, not only that by saying nothing they said it all, and many of them at that time had racist thoughts towards jews, they did nothing to jews, but opinions against jews they have, only when they need jews vote they behave nicely, don't get me wrong their genocide should be recognize but not as revange.
29. Wise Israelis think twice
Anatolian ,   Turkiye   (12.29.11)
There is no realistic comparison between the Jewish Holocaust and the 1915 Armenian tragedy. Totally and fundamentally different. Just think about Ottoman Turkey fiercely involved in fighting the WWI in multiple fronts against Anglo French Italian Russian Powers right after Balkan wars, Having fronts in Galicia, Trablus, Tripoli, Palestine, Aqaba, the Gallipoli, and the Caucassus. In Caucassus front against Russians Turkey lost 90000 sons in one night. Every family in Turkey has at least one loss in these wars. What happened at that time is armed Armenian Gangs backed by Russians attacked Turkish villages and slughtered everybody including women elderly and children. This sparked revenge rounds on both sides causing a both ways slaughtering and the Ottoman government worn out and tired of multifront wars decided and forced the Armenians to migrate and most of the deaths were not by direct killing but due to the harsh migration conditions. The modern Turkish citizens mostly already think that the whole tabloid was tragical and feel sorry about what had happened. Obviously this is not the same as the systemmatically planned scientifically technologically applied Jewish Holocaust. Nobody mentions about forced migrations of Balkan Turks During WWI or the Circassians forcefully migrated to Turkey from Caucassus and were largely slaughtered. Significant numbers of those Circassians decents (including myself) know what had happened. As a result if Israelis are sensitive to these human tragedies they can support the Turkish suggestion to open all the Ottoman achives and invite Armenian and Turkish Historians on the table to discuss and finalize the matter with the accompany of International observers. Armenians do not accept this. Why? Because they know under such fair and transparent conditions Most Armenian lies will be realized by the whole world. Last but not the least the present Armenian community in Turkey living peacefully as well as the 100000 illegal Armenian workers living in Istanbul and elsewhere (who are known by the state but are not pressurized) do not support such moves by France . As Ataturk said ''Never be afraid of telling the truth'' even that may cause penalty in France so on. Regards.
30. Armenian Genozide
td ,   Karkur   (12.29.11)
It s probably the worst timing of all times to recognize the A.G. as it would loose almost completely its real value and meaning and would be regarded as a pure political act. this would be specially too pitty as it would come from Israel with its own history and reason to do so. but not now. more courageous to say a friend the bitter truth then to spit at an enemy when he gets assaulted by someone else. Hopefully to Israel as a country, it would be spared to rely on people like those who are responsible for this article.. God save Israel from those unsmart, irresponsible and immature people.. td from karkur
