1. The Iranian mullahs would not dare...
Maurice ,   Montreal   (12.28.11)
...closing the stait of Hormuzs. They know very well what would happen if they did!
2. Dangerous delusions
Hmm. ,   Chicago   (12.28.11)
Deluded Iranian thinking poses the greatest threat here. Maybe Iranians will just back off their threats.
3. impressive
daze ,   US   (12.28.11)
Look at that picture:Battlewagon, Flattop, Pride of the Fleet-an American Aircraft Carrier! You threaten to do what to the Hormuz strait, iran?
4. Oh, Please...Please
Dan ,   Florida   (12.28.11)
Please Iran do something really stupid......P-L-E-A-S-E. We are just waiting to perform a full night of "wet work" decapitating the civilian & black-eyed Islamic cult "leaders" and return Iran back into the community of nations.
5. #3daze: It doesn't only LOOK impressive
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (12.28.11)
It IS impressive. That carrier will be carrying fighter planes far more modern and effective than any of the dinosaurs that Iran can put in the air...if it can patch them up to get them up. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
6. Length of wars
Sid ,   NY US   (12.28.11)
Iran vs Iraq = 10 years Iraq vs US = 10 days Iran vs US = ??
7. iran
spookey ,   birmingham uk   (12.28.11)
the sanctions , must now be hurting them , its a game they are not used to , playing only violence they understand
8. No idle threat from the US Navy
Cameron ,   USA   (12.28.11)
One does remember when the Navy was boarding Iranian craft to put an end to their attempts to mine the waters during that strange Iran-Iraq war some years back. The Iranians did nothing when the Navy got pro-active in the area.
9. Length of wars part II
Joe   (12.28.11)
1. USA/NATO vs Taliban = 10 yrs &....counting. 2. USA vs Iran ...? Get the hint? Islamic nations wars last longer than secular arab regimes(Saddam/Gadafi) wars. Know the difference.
10. U.S. 6TH FLEET DESTROYS IRAN'S
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.28.11)
WARSHIPS, RESULTING IN THE STRAITS BEING BLOCKED BY DEBRIS Forget hitting the Iranian ships, hit Tehran, the Mullahs must be the ones to feel the impact
11. The US and Iranian navies have dealt with each other for...
Persian CAT   (12.28.11)
more than 30 years non-stop. Both know each other's capacities very well. The idea is to jack up the price of oil, which "cannot be tolerated" by the Western economies. The chips of down and time is on Iran's side.
12. The Iranians are no match for the 5th fleet ,
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (12.28.11)
and they KNOW it...
13. How does China receive Iranian oil?
William ,   Israel   (12.28.11)
My guess is through the Straits. Iran already has few friends and cutting off the nose of one of them isn't a smart move.
14. Joe #9 not exactly
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.29.11)
The US totally defeated both Afghanistan and Iraq in a matter of days. The issue was being stupid enough to think that they should rebuild the worthless countries afterward. The Islamic regimes are extremely weak and lousy at fighting anybody. They can only terrorize. If one doesn't stay in the region they have no targets.
15. more respect and gratitude #11
daze ,   US   (12.29.11)
persian catski, it was the West that developed your oil retreiving capability. For domestic use, your oil is shipped out to be refined into gas, because you can't do it yourselves. What I am driving at is that without alot of outside help, the only native iranians who would benefit from your oil are the camels. In conclusion, you don't know the capacities of the US Navy. Just more knowledge that's beyond iran's scope

I don't think it's a matter of iranian ruptured ducks. It's more like persian cat's pilots deliberately sabotaging their own crates. They know what will happen if they try to dogfight against their betters
17. Persian CAT #11 not even close
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.29.11)
The last country to know what a US Fleet is capable is Vietnam. Your country has never fought anybody that has taken the US more than 2 weeks to wipe off the face of the earth. Neither you nor your two bit racist apartheid country has a clue as to the hurt that the US can lay down in a matter of minutes. Your own pilots will crash their aircraft and claim they were shot down rather than face one carrier full of US aircraft. And just think they aren't anywhere near as good as the IAF. You are so far out of your class that you haven't a single clue.
18. #11, the United States currently has eleven active aircraft
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.29.11)
carriers. They rule the waves and so the US can take on any navy.
19. #1 was Jimmy Carter smart?
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.29.11)
If the Americans and Saudis attack, the Iranians have nothing to lose so will close the Straits of Hormuz. If the Iranians get nukes and they attack the Saudis, the US will have difficulty intervening. And people mocking PersianCAT: he is right. No one can take on the American military, but the Persians are are far smarter than Obama. There are things called assymetric warfare and popular revolutions. I doubt even Obama has the stomach for genocide of the Shi'ite to ensure the Saudi Regime.
20. Iran can easily close the strait...
Chris.B ,   Australia   (12.29.11)
of Hormuz. Everybody should stop kidding themselves this is part of the Iranian defence doctrine. Asymmetrical warfare is nothing to be scoffed at as proven in Lebanon 2006. While Aircraft carriers are impressive they become very large floating graveyards should a few Sizzler /Dong Feng 21D missiles be fired at them.

BEN JABO ,   ISR AEL   (12.29.11)
Iran can close the straits and cut off her own nose to spite her face while she's doing it Iran needs the oil revenue, her population is underemployed and underfed If and when the people feel that are being more deprived of daily basic needs, the revolt will be far worse than it was a couple of years ago Iran has plenty of oil, she's a major exporter, it has one severe problem, she has to import gasoline because she does NOT have adequate refining capacity, which in effect means that the wheels in Iran will grind to a halt Those missiles you mentioned seem to be more or less impressive, however a few B-52's dropping a few nukes would be even more impressive, or maybe a couple of missiles launched from U.S. submarines would make an impression that Iran would comprehend One of two of those big firecrackers, Iran returns to the stone ages
22. #20 Chris B. and addendum
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.29.11)
I don't know what you're so smug about, if Iran should close the straits it will cut off a substanial source of your own oil supply Think of it, if you can, gas lines, lack of gas will of necessity convert your car into a pushmobile.. Or else, you can outfit the car with a sail, and power it with your own hot air
23. #21,22 True to form as usual Mr.Jabo.
Chris.B ,   Australia   (12.30.11)
I found your last post the most amusing thank you for the giggle your a modern day Woody Allen. Yes Closing the straits wouldn't be in their best interests I agree but they can do it that's all I was saying. If the Iranian people wan't to be free from the Mullahs it is up to them, threats of foreign attack and 'big firecrackers' as you so eloquenty put it only serves to strengthen the regime.Too many governments these days run on the mandate of external issues rather then taking responsibility on internal national interests. Food for thought.
24. #23 Chris B.
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.30.11)
The Iranian's thus far, have been making all the threats, main one's being to destroy Israel & block the straits to shipping The Iranian people don't have the guns, the Mullah's do, they have the firepower to suppress any revolt A revolution was tried just a couple of years ago, apparently your memory is so faulty you forgot how and why it failed I know why you're chuckling it's because you're so far away and think that the Iranian problem can't hurt you Inmates in an asylum also chuckle, they too are out of touch with reality I think your failure to recognize the situation is far worse than a bad Woody Allen move, of which he has made a number Iran is diverting attention from its own severe unemployment and food shortage situations However, nobody believe Hitler would start World War 2, after all Neville Chamberlain did say "Peace in our time", didn't he
