This is difference which should not be ignored. Most chareidim believe in separation, especially at crowded places such as buses. This is not the same as exclusion, which denies rights.

but I'm pretty sure that the issues women in Israel have in terms of discrimination don't have all that much to do with the haredi. Me thinks this is a somewhat clever way of detracting of some of the major issues women have in the West - lower pay, less economic opportunities, and everything that goes along with a male dominated, secular society.

The sudden media frenzy over "women's exclusion" is so clearly a fake to destabilize Israel. First, did it just start now? Of course not. The Haredi culture hasn't changed from when the Haredim helped Rabin, Peres, Barak, Sharon and Olmert set-up coalitions. Second, by "women's exclusion" is meant no more than a few hundred Jewish women who at worst are humiliated and at best are happy not to have to interact with men. These "women's crusaders" know but don't care about the thousands of Muslim women suffer REAL exclusion, including violence, threats of murder and denial of liberty.

In Israel we don't lock anybody in closets for speaking their minds! Even religious fanatics have the freedom of speech. And everyone else has the freedom to protest against them. (And we do!) This is exactly why America SHOULD support Israel. Because we DO have a variety of different ideas, and we express them out loud, without fear. The fact is, Israeli LAW is highly inclusive of women, and by far most Israeli people (including most religious people) are highly inclusive as well. A woman in Iran is about to get hanged for alleged adultery. See any protests? Didn't think so.
