61. Wrongo bongo
SF2OAK ,   Oakland, USA   (12.30.11)
Why the author doesn't refute Netanyahu is telling- is it because he cannot? Methinks there is truth in that. How does anyone, including the great & omnipotent seer Freidman know why congress people are applauding, bought & paid for by the Israel lobby, now how exactly do you know it mr Freidman? Conjecture, speculation, and your own fantasy. Of course you are an "opinion" columnist. Nyt the paper of record and influential to be sure, but so is the UN and what is that record? The NYT is not as relevant as the author thinks, especially when it comes to Israel.
62. Israel vs the NY Times
Albert Soued ,   US   (12.30.11)
I desagree completly with Nahum. For the last two years Mr Friedman article was pro Arab and palestinian sided. It is well known that NY times is financed by Saudi Arabia sheik
63. new york times: "based on a true story"
david ,   new york   (12.30.11)
you could tell that the "journalists" that write for it know what they want to write before they speak to anyone or do any research. they then seek out people who will say words that they need for their articles and they write the story that they wanted to write in the first place. it's great fiction, based on a true story.
64. Sources reporting honestly about Israel .
JamesPhiladelphia ,   Philadelphia, usa   (12.30.11)
Martin Peretz from the New Republic always reports honestly about Israel. Another source is Rubin Reports. Of course Ed Koch ex mayor of New York City, Alan Dershowitz The Harvard professor. All these people are honest and declared supporters of Israel. Why? Because at the end of the day they have a conscience to live with. You can see in the face of Thomas Friedman on TV that he is a liar. The best we can do is to ignore him, or as Ed Koch said in his recent Shalom TV interview, once in a while you say stupid things, referring to Friedman, although TF says stupid things all of the time. I really feel sorry for him.
65. Bibi is absolutely right
Spira ,   Paris, France   (12.30.11)
Bibi is absolutely right to snub the NYT. The vast majority of their propaganda is Israel bashing. So they have to assume it and stop finding cheap tricks to fool the people by showing their "rebalance" of their editorial line. If they want to rebalance, find proper journalists. Please NYT, stop trying to buy yourself a new virginity by asking the Prime Minister. And by the way, spread the word that thanks to internet there are nowadays numerous ways to be informed without to read - and buy - the nyt, the Guardian, Haaretz, Le Monde and all these Israel haters.
66. Barnea: You don't live here and you don't get it
American ,   Miami   (12.30.11)
Maybe American Jews can't tell Israelis about Israeli politics for the same reason that you can't lecture us about why we shouldn't be so sensitive about charges of being "Israel Firsters" with dual loyalty. That is the insinuation of a powerful Israel lobby charge.
67. NY Times is biased against Israel
DavidM ,   USA   (12.30.11)
Prime Minister Nethanyahu was absolutely correct to avoid publishing anything in the New York Times. The Friedman article was only the latest salvo in the campaign against Israel. Shortly before it appeared the Times ran a vile piece by an anti-Israel activist accusing Israel of prejudice against gays. There come a point where you have to say no.
68. Tommy F, poster boy
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (12.30.11)
for the term "pompous ass". That little person thinks way too highly of himself. His heavy opinions are of as much consequence as a dog's fart. Ditto most everything in the NYT. Cannot believe that rag is viewed as such an authority about anything, Israel in particular.
69. NAHUM -NYTIMES-ISRAEL
philipmax ,   NY   (12.30.11)
"Naivete", is a good description of your article. "Ignorant" is a better term. "Gives comfort to the enemy" is the best description. And I might add "stupid" as well.
70. NY Times Worlds Most Prominent Paper?
Michael ,   NY   (12.30.11)
Perhaps forty years ago, when it was financially healthy and wasnt beholden to left wing interests. Paper has now become irrelevant except for coverage of local news. every article is infused with a political agnenda. Objective reporting died years ago.
71. Impact of Barnea article
Isel Breshinski ,   USA   (12.30.11)
It is very clear that Barnea is not familiar with whatever is written in the NYT. Moreover he is justifying Friedman slander of US Congress suggestion that it is indeed true that the Congress is under the thumb of Israel. To those of us who read the NYT daily there are 5 violations that the NYT makes when it comes to Israel: it is not accurate, it is not fair blowing events out of proportion, it is not balanced showing the Israeli side of the story, it is not responsible by infusing falsehoods againt israel and lastly, NYT does not allow criticism. Barnea has to understand: 1. Anti Zionism can be a form of anti Semitism so is anti Israel dogma which features the NYT. 2. Barnea article will encourage the NYT to change, a major Israeli effort.
72. To #40 - Something stinky...
Dino Domingo ,   Vancouver, Canada   (12.30.11)
what really stinks is the fact that you don't see reality as it really is. stories are always told the way the person telling it sees things...so every single story from a pro Jew will always write negatively vs an Arab or Muslim....thats why people have opinions! If you really want to be open minded and objective, do yourself a favor and read through several articles on this site and then read the comments people post...ask yourself if people are objective or if they are "one sided" as you call it? I have never been as surprised as I am when I read things on here...a Jewish person can be completely wrong and unjust...but somehow people justify it...unbelievable!
73. to #61...you're completely dumb as a mule!
Dino Domingo ,   Vancouver, Canada   (12.30.11)
you need help....lift youre fate Jewish head out of the sand and come up for some air cause you suffer from a lack of oxygen...or you're plain and simply stupid! who doesnt know that congress hasnt been bought and paid for by Israeli lobby? I'll tell you who wouldn't know that...someone who loives on another planet...ask and politician in the US, ask any Israeli lobbyist, ask anyone anywhere...its not a secret its a fact...and the strange thing is its in the open and you dont know that? Its not illegal or shameful to lobby for your cause so why in the hell would you deny that? you're a complete and utter moron!
74. Israel vs NY Times
Irv Cantor ,   West Orange, NJ   (12.30.11)
Nahum asks if it is antiSemitic to criticize Israel. I suggest he read Alan Dershowitz for an answer. Dershowitz criticizes Israel, but he clearly defines that criticism is antiSemitic when the same behavior by other countries is never mentioned or criticized by the person who criticizes Israel. In other words, when people criticizing Israel turn a blind eye to other countries or other instances of the same behavior, then that is antiSemitism. In Friedman's case, what is his track record of condemning other lobbies that influence Congress? Has he spent time and effort highlighting the lobbies supporting Arab interests?
75. #72-73Dino: FYI: This is a pro-Israeli forum
Tom ,   USA   (12.30.11)
There are many Israel and Jew hating forums available for you, Muslims-Leftist. Be grateful for the freedom you are given here to vomit your inane crap. No Muslim-Leftist site offers the same freedom what this media provides for Islamofascist haters. Don't read these posts, go to Islamist ones. Allah akbar.
76. Barnea
Roy ,   USA   (12.30.11)
The author presents an awkward, naive and inane commentary without any value; what is clear is his subtle attempt to exonerate the NY Times of its repulsive ,distorted anti-Israel posture . As for his statement that the publication is the world's most prominent newspaper, what he has failed to include is the fact that it has taken a very steep downward trend in qualit y,objectiveness and reliability in the last few years and today is regarded by many as predictable leftist trash.
77. Never let your schoolin' interfere with your education.
SMF ,   USA   (12.30.11)
Dear Mr. Barnea: listen to Mark Twain and do a little homework. The NY Times Editorial page is a bought and paid left wing US Democrat Party instrument who's sole purpose is to elect Democrats to government and tax workers. Space limits the listing of lies and falsehoods written including fired journalists. When their centerpiece Obama is blown out next November and Bibi is re-elected in a landslide in Israel--please re read this article you have written. Then read a little more Twain....
78. Ad nauseum.....
Shalom ,   U.S.,A.   (12.30.11)
I stopped reading the Times 45 years ago because of its anti jewish bias. The converted Schulzberg family's selfhating sentiments are a well known fact and their newspaper's reputiation reflects it. At the time of Christallnacht the story was reported by every american newspaper on the home page, except the NYT. Is it the "world's most prominent newspaper"? Maybe in the eyes of of half educated snobs who prefer to read a pseudo intellect like tom friedman's articles. How about Rosenthal's firing because of his pro Israel views? Was he an "extreme rightist" like Abrams? What a nonsense! What a shame!
79. Anti-Israel Anti-Semitism
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (12.30.11)
Certainly, some of those who voice anti-Israel sentiment may be anti-Semitic. But, what about the NY Times and all of the liberal Jews who are anti-Israel? They aren't anti-Semitic. They just want to be accepted into the "One-World", in hopes of escaping anti-Semitism. But, the "One-Worlders" don't like Jews. The liberal Jews can't say that they don't like Jews, so, to show their "One-World" credentials, they say that they don't like Israel. Of course, that won't protect them from anti-Semitism. But, that isn't their real problem. The Muslim World regards them as infidels, and says that they should be put to death. And, even though the One-Worlders might agree with that, the Muslim World regards them as infidels, as well, and says that they should be put to death. If you question that, the Sunni and Shiite Muslims have been killing each other for years, because they regard each other as infidels. So, the real issue is not to be anti-Israel, or not, it is to convert to Islam, or not.
80. To Tom #75
Dino Domingo ,   Vancouver, Canada   (12.30.11)
Tom, your propaganda doesn't work with me, sorry to disappoint you. I know people like you have a tactic...its very simple...if someone writes something that has any validity/truth but it may cause your Jewish ass to be exposed, cry wolf...accuse the person of being an anti semite or a Muslim sympathizer or a leftist...your mother taught you how to deflect and point the finger...why? because you are a weak and wolf crying baby...you can't accept reality or fact so you divert to useless name calling and false accusations...just because this site is a pro Israeli web site doesn't mean a person can't have an opinion! many people who support Israel dont think you have to support or agree with anything and everything Jewish...its the uneducated and weak minded people such as yourself who feel the need to be a victim your whole life that have a problem. take your meds Tom...everything will be ok!
81. Thomas Friedman
zivron   (12.30.11)
Thomas Ffiedman has studied judaism and israel extensively and he is an enemy of the price tag thugs the israeli armies standing idly by while sharons allies the Falange murdered women and children and is strongly for a secure isreal within nuclear and other deterrant capacity and against right of return of the anti jewish islamic or dhimmi for the jews arabs who were refugees from the war declared by arabia against the jews and after the Holocaust . He could give more to israel and live more modesty but every human has flaws and he requires security . He loves the israel of the humanitarian but very tough .
82. ROGER
CHARLIE ,   USA   (12.31.11)
I must remind the rreaders that Roger Cohen wrote once that the creation of the State of Israel was a mistake. That puts close to Norman Finkelstein and Ilan Pappe.
83. Article misses the point
David ,   New York   (12.31.11)
The NY Times publishes lies about Israel and its history. Case in point was the Abbas letter 'Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but their own facts'
84. Friedman and Klein
mpremler ,   Berkeley, CA   (12.31.11)
I agree Netanyahu should have written the article offered by the NY Times but you completely misunderstand the charge against Friedman and Klein. These are important, and thoughtful men, and if they use anti-Semitic arguments such as pro-Israeli positions in America are morally invalid because they are bought with Jewish money, or American Jews care more for Israel than they do for American soldiers lives, it is NOT by accident. And those claims are NOT true. And if everything else they write and do is purer than the driven snow, they have intentionally served the cause of antisemitism and they will have that mark on their records when they die.
85. #75
esnuffnstl ,   USA   (12.31.11)
Tom likes his propaganda pure and simple. That's why he piles on the few posters here who are able to view a reality larger than that of the hard-core Isreali militarist. How horrible to hide away on Ynet and STILL find opinions that hurt your delicate feelings, eh Tom?
86. ny times are 'progressive''
moron ,   galut   (12.31.11)
they worship their own creations and disdain all religion..the jews there are assimilationists and were never zionists-roosevelt's jews!
87. Nothing intelligent at wise ever came out of Friedman
USA   (12.31.11)
The man is is delusional.
88. Classical anti-Semitic themes
rivkah f. ,   jerusalem   (12.31.11)
Friedman accuses the Jewish lobby of buying Congress; Klein insinuates that most Jews are not really true, loyal Americans. These are classical anti-Semitic themes. Too many Israelis do not recognize them, including Barnea. Sorry, both crossed the line.
89. Nahum Friedman
Israeli ,   Israel   (01.01.12)
... will continue to grind ... no matter the history, even the recent one
90. NY Times is old news
Chaim ,   NJ USA   (01.01.12)
Every Jew I know in the US has become discussed with the relentless criticism and Israel bashing and has moved on to other publications. To me it makes no difference if it is anti-semitism or anti-zionism. The net net is the paper hates you for what you are. Why make excuses?
