31. charged with what????
pnina ,   tsafon   (12.30.11)
As disgusting as the haredis' behavior is, they are free to believe what they want. But they're not free to assault others and riot in the streets. They should be arrested for assault and rioting, not some invented crime of exclusion of women. That will never hold up in court.
32. Haredi riots in Beit Shemesh
Eva Feld Feld ,   Phoenix   (12.30.11)
Nothing new here. Zealots made a blood bath after the Hashmonaim cleansed the Temple but decree that all uncircumcised babies to be killed. Zealots are at the fringes of a Judaism that is experiencing a spiritual and a humanitarian re-awakening which brought about the State of Israel of today,
33. THE ENEMY WITHIN
Eva Feld ,   Phoenix   (12.30.11)
These young men have time on their hands. Consign them to the tiras fields, put them to work in the refets and the loolim, let them wash dishes and scrub pots. They will do national service against their will.
34. EXTREMIST SHOULD REREAD THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Eva Feld ,   Phoenix   (12.30.11)
Extremists should remember what in the first paragraph in Pirkei Avot. They were nothing but a smelly drop then carried and born by a woman, breast fed and diaper changed by a woman, when sick TLC'd by a woman. They forgot from whence they came.
35. A few crazies have besmirched ALL the chardim, so sad.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.30.11)
36. Very Impressive
Abou Yosef ,   Alexandria, Egypt   (12.30.11)
I am so impressed with the majority of opinions of Israeli who refuse the violent and the misunderstanding of religious rules. I am so impressed with the open minded opinions and my best wishes for all in the new year.
37. Beit Shemesh insanity
Andrea ,   Barcelona Spain   (12.30.11)
No Social Security benefits after the second child. - rabbit breeding must be stopped.
38. a few questions
Erica ,   Israel   (12.30.11)
1. What happened at the school in Beit Shemesh where the dark haired Sephardi girls were excluded? 2. How are all the excluded dark haired Sephardi girls less important than one single blond haired American Ashkenazi girl?
39. #19 "indigenous"
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.30.11)
Judaism does not call for gender segregation. Islam does. Islam also calls for many other horrid things that need not be mentioned here. Careful; your ignorance is showing.
40. treat them
Ralph ,   Caesarea   (12.30.11)
as terrorists
41. #36 abou
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.30.11)
Your words are a breath of fresh air. May the same refusing of both violence and misunderstanding of religious rules find purchase in Egypt. May you also be allowed to continue to express open minded opinions. Peace.
42. dont give them money
chana ,   tel aviv, israel   (12.30.11)
dont give them money from the state, from the taxpayers they hate, so they will be forced to change their livestyle and behaviour
43. #26 - Good question
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.30.11)
too many people read these stories and jump to the intended conclusion. Why dont we question more?
44. #28 IDF/Police they beat up women and children
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.30.11)
every time they "clear" a "settlement". And they seem to enjoy the opportunity. They also take off their name tags which is illegal. The Hardim who spit at children are wrong, and so are the police and those who use excuses to take out their frustrations on others.
45. Haredim are bored :
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (12.30.11)
What do they do all day ? Pray, seek advice, foment hatred ? And the country is paying them ? Absurd ! Put them to work or army so that they wouldn't have so much time to think about hated subjects. They would be too tired to look at women on the street.
46. #10 & #26

That is NOT the reason for the riot. I live in the Sheinfeld community of Beit Shemesh. Our Dati Leumi communities held a protest on Wednesday night (about 4,000 people attended). The extremists thought they needed to fight back so they held a "protest" of their own the following night (last night). There were signs put up by these extremists that a protest would be held. The police came to their protest (as they do whenever a protest is held - the police were at our protest too). The only difference is these extremists are animals/little babies. WHENEVER they hold a protest there is rioting. Find me ONE (just one) example of when they held a rally and there wasn't a riot. They do not know real world issues - they receive financial handouts all the time and are extremely protected by Shas/other religious parties (that should have no right to be in government but that's another story) so how should we really expect them to behave? Like adults? LOL come on.

What school are you talking about? I believe you are speaking about Emmanuel - the Chareidi city where there was Ashkenazi Chareidi discrimination against Sephardi Chareidim. That kind of discrimination does not exist in the Dati Leumi communities, especially in Anglo communities where these people have lived side by side their whole lives by all different cultures and peoples until they made Aliyah. This kind of discrimination is MAINLY found in Israelis (I hate to say it). It is so obvious that they actually use this kind of discrimination openly - for instance, I am judged by the color and type of yarmulke I wear on my head...or what clothes I wear. And to answer your second question - no one Ashkenazi girl is more important than a Sephardi girl. It just so happens to be that the parents of this little girl went to the media (as did the parents of the girl is the Emmanuel school)...and there was the smae result...so what are you talking about?
