1. Well said - false piety desecrates what is holy
Carl ,   USA   (01.06.12)
Women comprise half the population. They are our mothers, our wives, our sisters and our daughters. These despicable Jewish zealots are no different from Taliban or Saudi religious police in their abuse.
2. Doesn't this go under op-ed?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.06.12)
Just saying.
3. The Confusion in a Democracy !!!.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (01.06.12)
The Democracy mix the Society with the State/Public and the State/Public with the Society and make bouth the State/Public The Democratic Ideologies has taken over the Mission of the Prophets in the Society and Mixed it as above. The Prophet in the Teocratical State, had no Formal or Public Authority, as The Priest or the King, but was Spiritual and Ideological leaders on the Inner roads to HASHEM. This is why the Religious oppose the Women to Rule/Decide and be Rulers/Deciders in the State/Public becoming the Society. The Theocratic State, the Military/Police and Juridical System, is nowhere in the Word of HASHEM, set to be Ruled by Women. However, there is no limit to a Womans Freedom and Rule, regarding Her Relationship with Her Husband, they are bouth free to act in Harmony as they se Fit. Arn.Sweden.

What is your point? Are you advocating that women’s place is in the home? If so, this is a very anachronistic idea; women today are in all professions including the military. Women scientists contribute to the general knowledge. The Nobel Prize for physics, chemistry, psychology & medicine has been awarded to 15 women. Women make up the major portion of teachers at all levels. As early as the civil war a medal of honor was awarded Dr. Mary Walker, a surgeon. Women made up the bulk of the people power in American factories during World War II. In the 21st century women have an important place in and out of the home in all professions including combat military roles.
5. Since there's nothing "holy" about anything on this planet,
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.07.12)
only matters that concern male power-domination of others is what's "dear" to these purveyors of lies&superstition to minors and other gullible souls. The idea of "Holiness" is a con-man's invention meant to subdue any sane&sound revulsion one might feel towards primitive and obvious manipulation that the "Holy" MEN of various religions exert towards blind&dumb and unwashed masses. You can turn and twist it any way you wish, the result will always be : HUMBUG!!!! Now go'n spread the word in bleeping Mea Shearim& Bnei Brak BUT, Be sure you're coming down a mountain of some kind! oh, and wear white robes....

My point is the differense between the Theocratical State/Nation and Societys, as according to the Will of HASHEM, and, That of an Democracy. In a Perfect Teocratical State/Nation and Society, The Man and His Wife, share the same Mission/Task and are Coworkers, As is written about the Man - Genesis 2 18And the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet for him." 19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper meet for him. 21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. 22And the rib which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a woman and brought her unto the man. 23And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." 24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh. Arn.Sweden.
7. To Am #6
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (01.08.12)
All your biblical quotations do not in any way say that women should be prohibited from working outside the marriage nor do they in any way suggest segregation against women. Israel is not a theocracy but democratic state with a Jewish majority of Jews from agnostic to ultra orthodox and everything in between.
8. #5 Tom : nice one :-)

9. Nr 5. You Err !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (01.08.12)
It is Written - HASHEM Says - " You shall be Holy as I AM HOLY " !. Holy menas Separated from Mundane ad Secular ways. It doesent mean that You are without sins. All Authority rests on Holyness/Separatedness. How would anybody regard an Ruling Authority, takimg part in the Ruled ones Feasts and Funmaking or whatever. Such a one would lose all respects from the Ruled ones, He would be despised and he could not rule at all. Arn.Sweden.
10. #9: Oy.....................exactly what I was referring to..
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.08.12)
Respect you earn, fear you instill. The Imaginary Friend is to be respected because he "made" grass green, the sky blue and not vice versa?!!! But fear him we must, says the rebbe/the Prophet/the Imam/the Pope....oh and pay taxes to the Temple. Is the Unseen One not well in the vocal cords?? What?.....can't hear anything.!.!..sorry Arn. All I hear are MEN talking&threatening, quoting books written by another men, all in order to obtain servitude and earthly gratification from other men&women. But mostly poisoning young children's minds. That's how they get you. I like your citations though:-))
11. sadly, the sound of one hand clapping...
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.08.12)
rabbi brackman is preaching to the choir - hareidim will not read "goyishe" news media. and even if they did, they would not accept his authority on matters of halakha, because he isn't "one of theirs", and in fact they probably won't even recognize his smiha. furthermore, the extremists who are committing these acts of hillul hashem, believe that they are on a mission from god, which allows them to ignore the rest of the torah, including those inconvenient bits about sin'at hinam, and "dina di malkhuta dina". sadly, what is needed is not more moral outrage, because the positions of the two sides are clearly drawn, but action to stop this hillul hashem - these neo-sicarii need to be stopped and re-educated, with the full force of the community (herem), and of the state (police and courts), before they repeat history and destroy the beit hamikdash.

13. Bigotry Towards Women
carol Myra's ,   United States   (04.15.15)
Thank you for speaking up about this very important matter. As a Jewish woman who grew up in an enlightened Home, and a progressive synagogue, I find the bigotry among the Orthodox and ultra Orthodox intolerable. I went to an Orthodox shul in Panama City, was told to sit in the back, and was not allowed to say Kaddish for my friend's mother. My friend and I left immediately. It is with great shame that this attitude continues to prevail.
