31. So then...
nathan ,   Israel/USA   (01.01.12)
.... if the men are the problem then let them walk on the other side of the street. As far as segregated buses, then segregate down the middle. Women to the right and men to the left. While I would still appose forcing anyone to follow this type of segregation, at least you could then make the argument that this is for the "women's own good" without looking like an Idiot

nathan ,   Israel/USA   (01.01.12)
FYI....Serving in the Army is not a prerequisite for most jobs...just ask the looney left who compromise 90% of draft dodgers (barring the ultra religious)
33. Haredi
Anne Bloom ,   UK   (01.01.12)
in case they are looking for rights, they should start to respect the one of other people or face the law. Work, behave and serve our army or stay somewhere else. U R free to choose but choose quickly.
34. 24 No Alyah for you? You lose.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.01.12)
Is everything perfect in Diaspora?
35. Rights? OK. What about.......
Gideon Reader   (01.01.12)
...responsibilities as well. If anyone is going to feed and drink at the trough and well of food and drink supplied or bought and paid for by others, are they not in some manner; some small way obliged to make an effort to be of some value? Just a little bit? Some contribution? If not they become a parasite on the body of the host, and therefore class themselves as a drain on the society in which they reside. What does the taxed majority owe such people? And for how long? How many generations? And the bigger question,...why?
36. #30 CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE ?
BARRY WHITE ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (01.01.12)
You are so right ,sadly.Too much hatred ,sinat hinam or free hate.
37. "No taxation without representation"
Igor ,   Germany   (01.01.12)
...and vice versa. You server in the army? Your are capable of sustaining yourself and your family? You pay you taxes? No? Well, then...
38. # 25 Haim, TA
Alexander Beck ,   Zurich, Switzerland   (01.01.12)
Haim, you're quite right. Also, if the Haredim don't any more like living in the free and democratic State of Israel, perhaps they'd prefer trying their luck across one of Israel's many borders.
39. to no.5 Bunnie Meyer
hs ,   brooklyn   (01.01.12)
Thank you for taking the reasonable approach. I am an Orthodox Rabbi and see it your way. Why fight ? Let each live their own way. People who spit on people are not the official representatives of the Orthodox people. In totally orthodox neighborhoods why not respect each other wishes. We could accomplish much more by respecting each other than by fighting.... Thank you again HS
40. Chareidim Already Have More Rights
Erich ,   Jerusalem-NY   (01.01.12)
They get away with avoiding army service and not having to work, all the while they get the right to vote and the tax money of those who do work and serve go to feed them and keep their schools afloat. The Chareidim don't want rights. They want ever more privileges. And is way overdue for the good Jews - religious and not religious - who serve the country to put an end to this culture of parasitism.
41. Of course they have rights! They also have wrongs.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (01.02.12)
No haredi has the right to hork on my daughter because he doesn't want her school in his town. No haredi has the right to call my daughter a slut because she's on a publicly funded bus with him. Haredis have the right to behave like a mensch. When they don't, they often break the law. In Israel it is against the law to spit on a person. It is also against the law to harass minors. In Judaism it is a sin to defame somebody in public, even moreso to call a properly dressed women a "slut". Shame on the haredi community for not standing as one and making a cherem against these two sinners. Shamer on the Daum for pretending that haredim have the right to abuse Jews. They do not.
42. All Charedim work
Yoni the JEW ,   Jewish Homeland   (01.02.12)
All Charedim work or almost all of them. Some of them have only one bread winner in the family and often it is the woman of the household but they all work. The fact is that almost all of the talkbackers until now have a real hatred for other Jews and steroetypically generalize all Charedim in the category of a few extremists. I am Charedi and although I am more modern than most I know this community from the inside. It is an amazing community filled with a very different value system than the secular one. The fact that secular people cant relate to Charedi way of life doesnt justify the hatred that you all have for other Jews. Secular people who generalize Charedim are no better than antisemits who generalize all Jews or racists who generalize all blacks. The only difference is that the secular do it in the name of liberty and not anti-Semitism.

Hitler was not concerned about the haradim taking control of German society !
44. Strange to here the comments of leftists
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.02.12)
The leftists are screaming about Haredim serving in the military, but they do. In fact they serve at a far HIGHER percentage than the leftists of Tel-Aviv. When are you lazy ignorant fools going to get off your asses and do your service? Many of the Haredim do serve, and almost none of the Christians or Muslims do, yet you would never deny them rights, why? As a secular person I ask this. I have no desire to become Haredim, but they too are humans and deserve equal rights.
45. Haredim
Avi ,   CA, USA   (01.02.12)
The Haredeem (Jewish Taliban), was and is the worst enemy of Israel, its about time Israel recognize who is their true enemy! If it was for the Haredeem, there would have never been an Isarel! Send all of them back to Brooklyn! before they destroy the country!
46. Please give me the address of the store in Israel
Former secular ,   w. acad. education   (01.02.12)
where I can get stuff for me, my Torah studying and working husband and my numberless children without paying - just by wearing my wig? Dear Jewish people you make yourself ridiculous by stating that anybody can survive in Israel without working. And make a favor - learn something about your own herritage before you get lost in the oblivion!
47. I fully agree with #42
ISAAK ,   Austria   (01.02.12)
48. #yoni ; not wrong but
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (01.02.12)
your people have gone to far into blind allies far removed from rational judaism your leaders set a bad example and drive you further into blind allies Try and see Israel as the first moves towards messianic age, be grateful and support it with all your hearts and not denegrade it Then you will come back into the fold and deserve the love of all Am Yisrael
49. 48 Norbus,nobody is perfect..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.02.12)
I am a new Haredi,i know the secular and the Haredi world. We can both learn from one another if we focus [instead of the negative] on our mutual positive sides.Let us ALL do the necessary steps to love all Am Yisrael.
50. #42
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (01.02.12)
I am secular and do not condemn Haredi. I, like everyone, know that Haredim work, pay taxes and serve in the army when it is not made impossible. The Talkbackers who are full of hatred are the same ones who call Abbas a peace partner, who danced when Sharon's forces ethnically cleansed Gush Katif, who cheered when Olmert unleashed the Yassam in Amona and dream of cleansing Migron of Jews. Remember these Talkbackers and their hatred next time they ask you to form a coalition to attack your brothers.
51. Would not dare happen in Canada
Ronnbo ,   Canada   (01.02.12)
In Canada the haredim respect that they are a minority in a multicultural society . They will not get special priviledges on a bus unless it is their own bus. And if they discriminate against others it is against the law. Alo as many of their institutions are fianced by charity by non haredim ( even nonreligious jews) their behaviour refelcts this dependence on goodwill. ?Time to stop govt handouts without preconditions?
52. Group rights
Mark ,   NYC USA   (01.02.12)
Israel unfortunately continued the old Ottoman system of self governing ethnic and religious communities. The result is that group rights were continued and religious rulings on familial matters were incorporated into the law. Modern western societies do not give rights to groups only to individuals and only the state domestic relations laws are enforceable.. When the rulings of religious authorities become unenforceable then the secular State of Israel will not be confronted with the assertion of group rights by religious communities.
53. Simple solution
Dr. I. Barr ,   USA   (01.02.12)
Busses should have a big sign. DATI and LO DATI . At the bus stations travelers will see which option they prefer. If you do not want to sit with women take the DATI option. If you do not want to be seregated choose the LO DATI option. Why not?
54. Only those who serve in the army should have rights !
Ezra   (01.03.12)
55. The airport is open. Let them go to norway, or...
Scott ,   USA   (01.03.12)
redraw the palestinian territories around Mea Shirim. See how they like being dhimmis again.
56. what country do you live in
Richi ,   Israel Eilat   (01.03.12)
Haredi existance in Israel is not under threat. The opposition is based on a complete warping of reality. Secular majority pay for the haredi way of life. The accusation of the secular community acting paternally is understandable but it is incorrect. We base this assertion on the fact that at present the haredi community is acting like a spoilt child who believes their are owed everything and have no responsibility. As much as Haredi outrages recently have been a wake up call for the secular community. The response of the secular community should now be a wake up call for the community that rights come with responsibilities. Please if the haredim want to bend reality to being innocent victims, i beg that we dont get confushed between reality and a warped sense of injustice.
57. Brothers
Talma Shore ,   Tel Aviv   (01.04.12)
Close your eyes and imagine that the writers of the destructive talkbacks are not Israelis. Imagine that they are living in Europe and imagine that the year is 1939. What has happened to some of us? Why are we allowing ourselves to hate others? Can we vanquish our enemies if we are divided? Don't become a person who hates another because he looks different than you. Stop and think and ask yourselves if you are acting responsibly. Take time to learn more about your Jewish neighbors whom you perceive to be different than yourselves. We are really the same people. We both come from the same great -grandparents.We both try to teach our children to be kind, good people. We both love Israel and we both believe in G-d. Look into your own family trees only a generation or two ago, maybe three, to see that we are all one nation, one people. May people choose to do the wrong things. Be a person who does what is right.
58.  To disappear is your election
citizen ,   Israel   (01.05.12)
Thousands of haredim have already disappeared voluntarily from the world of work.
59. Sexual violence c
Laura   (01.06.12)
Ridiculous. How does replacing one kind of sexual violence (harassment or inappropriate touching of women by men) with another (harassment, verbal abuse and assault of women by men) do anything to help women?
60. No5 Bunny
HS ,   brooklyn   (06.18.12)
