1. The true picture
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (01.02.12)
The dying leftist elite fighting it's last battle! They don't want to accept that we are a democracy and that they are history!
2. The opposite! Supreme CARTEL court recycles far leftists
Hippocrates ,   Earth   (01.02.12)
there is not a shred of anything other than nepotism and cronyism of the worst "democratic" sort. One meretznik leaves and he brings in another to take his place. The supreme court is a travesty of honesty and public representation. When the left realized they couldn't hold onto the knesset due to increasing demographic irrelevance they put their hands around the institutions of power; namely the supreme court and the media. Now the wicked witch of the left is burning and she's letting out screams. My pretty, the leftist policies you represent speak for a minuscule minority of maybe 10%. The majority won't be stilled forever. Its our country now.
3. This Leftist Activist Court
Reuven   (01.02.12)
...must be countered quickly, before it hurts Israel more.
4. Deputy AG
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (01.02.12)
The Deputy AG should learn about "conflict of interest" and "separation of powers". Imagine a hypothetical scenario where a High Court judge is accused of bribery. The AG can instruct the police to investigate with unlimited resources (like they did with Deri and Lieberman) or instruct them to make little effort (like with Ehud Barak). Then the AG has to decide. Should he bring the judge to trial or close the case because of "no guilt"? Imagine that the accused Judge is a close personal friend of the President of the Court and the President decides who gets to be a High Court judge. If the AG goes for a real investigation and a trial, he will lose his chance to become a High Court judge. If he closes the case for "no guilt" he will become a High Court judge. For the Court's sake, the Knesset should appoint the judges.
5. I absolutely "love" the arrogance of the right
PaulZion ,   Israel   (01.02.12)
To no. 2: 10%? Dream on. You guys are drunk on your power, but that power is passing, while the laws upon which our society is based should be constant and not dependent on the whims of those who hold the power at this specific time. You also always need a system of checks and balances - and the Supreme Court is essential in that system, otherwise you open up the possibility of corruption and tyranny. But maybe that's what you want... To change the rules of the game just so that you can do whatever you want, without having to answer to a higher moral ethic, or hear things not pleasant to your ears, is superficial and arrogant. Politics is like a pendulum: It swings this way and that. If you pull the pendulum too far in one direction, don't be surprised when it swings back the other way to the same extreme . You reap what you sow. We will be waiting.
6. Reality
michael Pielet ,   israel   (01.02.12)
Yes, Paul, the askenazi leftist elite have maintained their control over the high court in an underhanded undemocratic way. Let also have true democracy and let other sectors of Israeli society be represented on the high court.

PaulZion ,   Isreal   (01.02.12)
The high court is not a body that is elected or that should "represent" specific population groups. If it were, we should have 2 judges who are Russian immigrants. It is, as it should be, above petty politics and the whims of the right, which is becoming more and more fascist, the longer they stay in power. The Supreme Court should consist of the best minds in the leagl and judicial system, who can analyze, interpret and maintain an even keel with regard to matters of law, including the constitutionality of laws passed by the legislative body, who have a vested interest in always trying to tip the scales in their direction, for the sake of convenience or expedience. This initiative wouldn't even be discussed if the Supreme Court didn't block legislation which would adversely affect the rights of Israeli citizens or the democratic system. I can understand your feeling sore about that, but it does not justify sacrificing our democracy on the altar of expedience.
8. Actually it's the Deputy AG that is abusing power
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.02.12)
The AG's office is suppose to represent the government. Yet it is another branch of the court system. They have usurped the authority of the Knesset and should be removed.
9. Democracy
michael Pielet ,   Israel   (01.02.12)
#7, others sectors meaning, zionists and the giborai Israel living in Judea and Samaria. The settlers living in Tel Aviv have in an undemocratic, fascistic manner held a stranglehold on the high court. They will not tolerate other viewpoints. Do not worry there are many excellent legal minds that are also zionists and part of the giborai Israel.
10. #9 Man you are way out !
Stan ,   Israel   (01.03.12)
What have you been smoking ? "settlers in TA" ? "fascistic manner"? It seems that you are hallucinating. You and all those who think like you will live to regret the destruction of the most important element in Israel's democracy.
