31. #22 guy
Elchonon ,   Hebron   (01.04.12)
would you say the same about forcing an arab woman to remove her veil?
32. Desecration
Loyal Jew ,   Israel   (01.04.12)
Unwittingly, the bouncer was right. A kippa wearing person shouldn't enter a Tel Aviv nightclub because that desecrates G-d's name. The "victim" may as well put his kippa in his pocket, because in his lifestyle he already did so.
33. I think I have a different idea of...
Gideon Reader   (01.04.12)
...what a "nightclub" is. I am "older" and spent countless hours in nightclubs across the planet. Almost all were smoky, dim lit daylight shabby places where good booze and better jazz or blues were performed and loved. Where surprisingly decent snacks without fancy names could be consumed and where loud, outh drunks were quickly and efficiently set outside. I observed an occasional kippa in some odd places in the Far East and the occasional large brim western style hat I have worn for thirty or so years. This soldier needs to find a better club where the ownership and staff are smarter and do not look for bad press. Unfortunately my last trip to Israel showed me that their best jazz was probably taking a night off because they knew I was in town. What I heard was not so good. I am open to suggestions for my next visit.
34. nightclub discrimination
david ,   netanya israel   (01.04.12)
I dont know what the religious boy hoped to find in the nightclub. It probably would have been a hillul hashem to go there wearing a yamulka so the bouncer's intention was probably to help prevent him from committing an aveira.
35. Re#22 This is Religious discrimination not a Dress Code
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (01.04.12)
Many Clubs do not allow people in with tee shirts ,Work Boots or sneakers. Some clubs even demand jackets, most of the time this is in order to prevent fights. Wearing a religious head covering is not a fashion statement it's religious obligation to some Jews. Therefore it's religious discrimination.
36. Question
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (01.04.12)
Is a Kasket allowed ?[ie Russian cap]
37. Well -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (01.04.12)
- I have stood as Guard in Nightclub myself, and all Visitors must understand that they are Guests coming in an to anothers House. If they dont heed the sayings by the Guard, somthing is wrong with their attitude and such people I would never let in because, troubble will always ensue letting opponents in. This is not a Question about the Nightclub Guard, if He is Right or Wrong, but of the attitude of the Guests. However - this insident is a storm in a waterglas. Arn.swedenj.
38. subjectivity
Boomie ,   NY USA   (01.04.12)
the rule u suggest -- letting the operator decide who will make trouble based on the attire of the customer -- supports discrimination against women as well. If a bus driver determines that a woman will amke trouble becausse of her attire, the driver should be allowed to prevent her from boarding the bus. Is that what u believe?
39. He was a Soldier with a Kippah
BEN JABO ,   ISRA EL   (01.04.12)
Nobody, except maybe an idiot, would think he's a Haredi in disguise He should bring some of chaverim, block the entrance to the club, keeping everyone out, until they go out of business
40. THE END IS NEAR
AVRAHAM MAGRABI ,   SPAIN   (01.04.12)
This is the most flagrant, disgraceful , abominable and symbolic incident to happen in this country. From now on everyone will be occupied only in defining and fighting each other until the end when other nation will destroy THIS COUNTRY but they will never be able to destroy the real Jews and their spirit.
41. Number 9 - reaping what you sow
MR ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (01.04.12)
So, which religious are you talking about? The programmers, lawyers and doctors who commute from Beit Shemesh to work in Tel Aviv? As a Beit Shemesh resident, I can tell you, these individuals are far more likely to be a target of Charedi violence than you are (or any typical secular or religious resident of Tel Aviv, Haifa or Raanana). Choose your targets carefully (or would that be too "Israeli" of you).
42. Gadidiot
Michael ,   Jerusalem   (01.04.12)
Your just as bad as the bouncer. You think that all religious people act like some of the Haredim in Beit Shemesh. That's complete ignorance. I'm religious, I wear a kippah, but I'm not Haredi and I know many Haredim who don't support that kind of behavior. It's a disgrace that you display such ignorance of Judaism in the only Jewish country on earth.
43. Ephraim's ignorance
Michael ,   Jerusalem   (01.04.12)
Many bars and nightclubs have teudot kashrut. There's nothing wrong with going to one and enjoying music and having a few drinks with friends.
44. They made him a favor
Eli ,   Haifa   (01.04.12)
A religious Jew has no place in a "night-club" This is an immoral place!
45. Can anyone fill in the name of nightclub???
Norman   (01.04.12)
So we know not to patronize Name and street address of NightClub
46. I'm On The Soldier's Side
e ,   USA   (01.04.12)
I am not religious, but I support him in this. You can be religious without being RELIGIOUS: the wearing of a kippah is not the same as wearing full haredi dress code. No to mention, if he were THAT religious, he would not be in a secular club anyway!
47. soldier's yarmulke at club
Allison ,   Portland, USA   (01.04.12)
My jaw is on the floor. This is unbelievable that it happened in ISRAEL.
48. Gadi #9, your kidding right...........
Bill Pearlman ,   NY usa   (01.04.12)
Are you telling me you can't differentiate between a soldier and an idiot in Beit Shemesh who spits on a girl
49. #43 Michael: Yes, but what happens if the singer is a woman?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.04.12)
50. #39: Ever heard of Nahal Haredi?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.04.12)
This is Israel 2012: Jews hating Jews and doing the work of those who hate us and are trying to destroy Israel! Actually, what is going on is to the benefit of the Netanyahu Government which will only survive on fear and "divide and rule" will generate more hatred and fear!
51. Kippah can be mistaken for a "hat" in Iowa, not in Israel
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (01.04.12)
There was no "misunderstanding" here. The inescapable conclusion is that this nightclub was German-owned - they cynically deprived a Jewish customer of his rights, then the junior manager said he was "only following orders", then the senior management claimed the incident never happened, they were unaware of it, and saw nothing, heard nothing and knew nothing , then the owners representative claimed that if only they had known what was going on, they would surely have put a stop to it. Next step will probably be to offer the soldier token compensation to be paid out over 50 years.
52. Let it be noted to hateful anti religious people, that
hippocrates ,   israel   (01.04.12)
justice does exist in this land.
53. everyone calm down (again)
sarah ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.04.12)
There are a lot of justifications, moralizing, assumptions and stereotyping going on in these talkbacks. Can we all agree that behavior (whether hareidi or secular) that embarasses or demeans another person is wrong? Can we all try to get along with one another? Can we all quit trying to instantly pass judgment on the basis of what are no doubt insufficient facts? Take a deep breath and relate to each other as individuals instead of as "religious" or "secular" or "Jews" or "non-Jews".
54. A Sword with two sides.....
Koose E Mack ,   NY NY   (01.04.12)
First....Nightclubs are not recommended for observant Jews. Secondly, if the nightclub did discrimintate based on the Soldier's Kipah.....this will make a good test case.
55. israel is becoming the capital of anti semitism
zionist forever   (01.04.12)
With the haredi there is no tolerance amongst the secular community. Long before the trouble makers who are causing such an uproar now the haredi were hated and persecuted. We have articles on here now about separation from the haredi and talks of coming civil war. Its like its the secular way or the highway. Now we have nightclubs banning men because they are religious and wear a kipa. There is more respect shown towards religious Jews in Iran than there is in Israel. This country seems to be slowly turning into pre war Europe only this time the persecuted are religious Jews and the persecutors are secular Jews.
56. What is sauce for the goose is sauce gander
(01.04.12)
What is good for one is good for the other . No discrimination in Israel - Full Stop, - whether women or kippah wearing. Everybody has freedom to be within the Law of the Land.
57. Who caused the trouble?
goyisherebbe ,   Kochav Hashachar IL   (01.05.12)
First of all, as a religious person he should not have gone to the nightclub, but given that he did, the establishment had no right to exclude him. According to your reasoning, since an inordinate amount of the crime in the US is committed by blacks, an establishment should be allowed to exclude them. Third, 99.999% of the fights in nightclubs are caused by secular people, so what on earth are you talking about? You have been drinking deep from the Kool-Aid of the secular media.
58. The opposite!
goyisherebbe ,   Kochav Hashachar IL   (01.05.12)
This cultural war started 63 years ago when the authorities took religious youth and sequestered them in secular camps, schools and kibbutzim without an opportunity to practice Judaism or learn Torah. Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, respected former Chief Rabbi and now Chairman of Yad Vashem, was at that time one of the yeshiva student acitivists in the P'eylim who infiltrated the Youth Aliya camps to teach Torah to the kids. The reaction to secular coercion later produced the backlash of support for Rav Kahane and Shas. What backlash won't do, demography will. If the secular want to maintain a hold on Israeli society, they need to have 6 kids each. Otherwise, forget it.!
59. Ah, but what is the law?
goyisherebbe ,   Kochav Hashachar IL   (01.05.12)
The law is what the ultra-secular courts say it is. The government and Knesset have to assert their superiority over the unelected judiciary which rules by fiat.
