To bring in arguments appealing to humanity usually does not work as people say it's not their problem. Governments only care about two things: money and votes. If you tell them that the Jewish and eastern Arab people are in danger then they dismiss it in one way or the other. If you tell them they may soon have another oil crisis if they let Iran have her way then they scramble for a solution. When pathos (appeal to emotion) doesn't work, you gotta resort to logos (appeal to logic). I can't say I would be able to do that.
