Brotherly Love the fact is, that religion is incapable of coming to terms with infidels in a long run.
In the beginning, when the followers of the Imaginary Friend are in great minority they are indeed humble and friendly to us, the pork eating, "fallen ones". When stronger in numbers they demand "respect" for their beliefs meaning: no busses on Shabbes/no women on busses/no whatever....
By the end they may tolerate enclaves of seculars until the last of us leaves for some foregin, greener& freer pastures...

It's easy to focus on just the Zealots - you had plenty of factions that led up to the destruction, be they the more nationalist-oriented camp that fought the Zealots most of the time instead of fighting the Roman Empire, or the Romanized (previously Hellenized) elites who were quite keen on integrating with their foreign overlords and worked with them on a regular basis.
