All I have ever heard reported about this guy is hateful statements about anyone who is not a member of his flock. Maybe is was a big whoop years ago but he is now a leader of the Haredi thuggery that afflicts Israel. I'll bet there's not 500 people who care more about him than they would any other rabbi.

Abvosly you know nothing about Rabbi Elyashiv. Rabbi Elyashiv sits and learns the whole day. He was never appointed by anyone to be the "posek hador" but because of his great wisdom, piety and learning, whatever he says is accepted. Most of the Orthodox world would accept his ruling above all others and understand how lucky they are to have such a sage and leader. He is an unassuming man who lives in a tiny little apartment without any benefit, salary or money from others, there is no pomp and there is no official position. There must be at least a half a million people praying for his recovery. In a few more years of his he could grand us understanding and wisdom in these tumultuous times. He had never in his live issues a hateful statement, maybe people lied and say things in his name. The stories of his consideration of others are legendary and endless.
