I once suggested that Catholic priests invited such problems by denying an outlet for normal sexual activity through the doctrine of celibacy. But the Orthodox create their own problems, much of which they cover up. One Modern Orthodox rabbi in DC broke with the OU because they refused to seriously address the issue. In New York dozens of Orthos have been convicted of sexual abuse but, for political reasons, their names are being withheld. I once had a girlfriend who grew up Orthodox in Australia who claimed the school's rabbi put the moves on her when she was in high school (which she rebuffed). So yeah, we've got problems in our camp too.

i wonder if the court will show any leniency due to his age, position, and religiosity? because they shouldn't! it has become a cliche that criminals always show up in court wearing at least a kippah, in order to get a lighter sentence. this sends a very wrong signal, both by associating the criminal with the religious, and by confirming the public's conception that all are not treated equally. the courts should clearly and unambiguously reject any such tactics.

I find it amazing that as soon as someone reads something instead of looking at it objectively we take it for granted that the allegations are facts.

I wouldn't be quick to believe this. Over the years many crazy and horrific stories about the religious ppl were "exposed" to only later be found as a slight twist of the truth. Go visit this girl that claims this story to be true. Interrogate her. You will find that a) she has something against this rabbi b) she's bored in life c) she wants to cause a stir in the religious/ nonreligious relationship. it really disgust me. It used to be other anti Israel countries would expose Israel in such negative light in their treatments to the Arabs. We as a Jewish/Israeli nation know how most of these stories are false. So not only are we having problems with other countries aside from the arabs, were having our own pplturn against each other. I am a religious being and believe its time to try finding peace with ourselves so we can b at peace with others. Mafia, for a few years they followed every step & were able to extort money from him & sell his blessings etc. They threatened that if he revolts against their dtention they will fabricate a story like this about him. I wouldn't be suprised if this case turns out to be the same, just he wasn't manipulated. The fact this crime is so horrible & the media loves it, putting it on a guy like this sounds even better, does not prove him guilty. Although I believe that there is a possibility that anyone could be guilty of this, I still believe innocent until proven guilty. If he is guilty, I would say the desecration of heaven's name makes the crime much harsher, but like a spade is a spade a sicko is a sicko.
