32. #24 Israeli, Twisting words, spreading demagoguery.
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.08.12)
Tommy Lapid's family were victims of Shoah, so I doubt he said something in support of the Nazis. I am sure you are taking things out of context, distorting something Tommy Lapid might have said. Demagoguery is a propaganda tool and you seem skillful at that along with your right wing cronies. Aren't you missing your dear Libyan friend Gaddafi? He was a great demagogue and a propaganda crony.
33. hope against the ultra orth' extremists
arik   (01.08.12)
If the enlightened parties will join forces, there's still hope for this beloved country.
34. #6 Ariel and the other Livni-Kadimah haters
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.08.12)
Ariel, if "Eretz Israel" is so beloved to you why aren't you living in "Occupied or Liberated Eretz Israel" which has taken so much money from the development of the Galilee in the "Real Israel"? You and the others should remember that Kadimah - Livni, Erzra, Mofaz and others were born out of the Likud and the differences are not that big between Likus and Kadimah except for Netanyahu's obsession of holding onto power at all cost even if it bring more hatred on Israel and Jews which has never really been in short supply! Further, Netanyahu is showing his Putiniistic and Stalinistic paranoia by trying to pass a law that will try and stop Lapid and others from going into politics! When Prime Ministers have to try and use legislation to bar others from politics, that is the "beginning of the end". Who knows if Lapid will even form a party? Who knows if he will even pass the minimum percentage? Maybe he will join Meretz and that will be the end of that! As for the Hebrew to English translation of any article on YnetNews, ask the editor. I have!

You must be living on a far away planet, since you don"t know who hates who. listen to your secular friends what they are spewing. hate is their Mantra
37. Were Lapid elected as a lone MK he'd hardly matter
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.08.12)
In any democracy with an ounce of sense, an individual would stand for election as an individual, not as a pseudo-party with an army of opportunists on his coat-tails. Lapid is a perfect example of what's wrong with Israel's system.

You want the religious parties and the rest of the parties that exist to prostitute themselves to the highest bidder then its not Yair Lapid you need who is just another opportunist who is interested only in himself and whose only real policy is religion bashing you need a new political system. Three mainstream parties only and no coalition government. MKs are directly elected rather than from the party list and the party with the most seats runs the country alone for a fixed period. It will bring stable government and because its not the same faces in the coalition so we will get political change. We will get a government where the politicians are chosen directly by the people and their policies will be for the people not their coalition partners. The current system is all about pay offs and it breeds corruption and bad government where we will get political rookies like Yair Lapid being made a senior government minister because he is famous.

49. Yair Lapid is always a reason for
Borislava ,   Sofia, Bulgaria   (01.09.12)
unprecedented activity in the forum. Long ago foretold news. To enter politics in very difficult times for the Middle East is brave decision (or crazy, I cannot decide). Let’s get him a chance to assume this responsibility. For no inappropriate comment I want to clarify I’m not Lapid’s fan - he is a very good journalist (not the best). I no way to know where and how he prepared for a politician. In Europe, decades of leftism accumulated problems that are difficult to explain.

The problem with electing Yair Lapid even if he is just a one hit wonder and he isn't reelected if he forms a party now the damage will be done. All the polls are predicting if he forms his own party he can get up to 15 seats which would make his party one of the biggest in the Knesset and all he hs going for him is the Lapid name and his only policy is religion bashing. He will have alot of political muscle while he is there. There is also the fact that if he did win big he could demand a senior government ministry. Is it really in the best interests of the country for a rookie to be made a senior government minister just because he is famous?
