1. Advice to Eitan
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (01.09.12)
Over the past few months, Eitan ran to every microphone to publically attack the Likud. Instead of trying to make the Likud a Lapid clone, Eitan should follow his heart, leave the Likud and join Lapid's party.
2. Lapid
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (01.09.12)
Having read a few of Yair Lapid's articles here, I got an impression that the guy is very lightweight in his "philosophy" and demagouery. I feel strange that some MKs take him so seriously - that in my eyes just shows how shallow are they themselves.
3. Dont worry about Liberman he will be in jail soon
Haim ,   TA   (01.09.12)
4. Lapid is an example of why the system must be changed
zionist forever   (01.09.12)
Coalition government doesn't work and never has and the more parties that are brought into the ring the worse it gets. Other than Likud, Kadima & Labor non of the parties ( Lapid included ) actually have a great desire to run the country as a whole they care about the individual issues that mean something to them. To Lapid its religion bashing, to the religious its more money for religious causes, for the nationalists its settlements but nobody wants to have the responsibility of actually running the country. Coalition government is also not based on what the people want its what the individual politicians want because the people don't form the coalitions or decide what political or economic price should be paid to get that party to join. The people also don't elect the MKs directly they are imposed on them through a party list. I imagine that over 50% of the individuals currently in the Knesset would not be there if we had a better system. Coalition government cost the taxpayer a fortune because coalitions don't usually survive beyond 2.5 years and when that happens we have to hold a taxpayer funded election and when the election is over it will still be all the same single issue parties in the new government just shuffled around. We also get stale politics because the same faces and same demands Next time Leef wants to hold another protest she should be demanding an end to coalition government in favor of a first past the post system because they will never give up this cosy system which pretty much provides stable long term careers for some politicians as long as they know how to manipulate the party members.
5. Lapid
Down to earth ,   Israel   (01.09.12)
is nothing more than a rookie. Lets see him debate others on the important government policies [or lack of them]
6. Seems like........
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (01.09.12)
"Likud will remain the largest party". Seems like old Mickey Mouse forgot - it's not the largest party even now. Kadima is.
7. The entire world is calling for moderation
mea   (01.09.12)
In US politics and Israel politics, in Arab countries and in Europe, citizens are calling out for an end to extremist parties bit right and left. The bulk of people fall into the middle and we are sick and tired of Tea Party baggers demanding the WH be occupied by jesus and Israel being run by rabbis. Lapid will excel because he represents something more moderate than the polarized right or left.
8. lapid good for the Likud
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.09.12)
If he makes his own party he will suck 5 mandates from kadima and 1 from labor. Let wait till we laugh.
9. Lapid is the same, old same old
David ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (01.09.12)
On Reshet Bet this morning they were so enthralled with Lapid that when they mentioned his "platform" they ignored the fact that it is the same old, same old delusions that the left has been feeding us since Oslo. Netanyahu will easily defeat Lapid when he points out that Lapid is simply rehashing the old ideas - make Yehuda & Shomron Judenrein, slash the defense budget, give away the treasury to people who don't want to work. When will Lapid anf the Israeli Left grow up and smell the Houmous?
10. Lapid repeat of his racist father
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.09.12)
One issue - hatred of the haredim. Didn't work then - won't work now. But he should manage to destroy both Labor and Kadima with any luck.
11. Lapid does not threaten Likud
Borislava ,   Sofia, Bulgaria   (01.09.12)
Likud has experienced politicians. In democratic countries the leftists only make up a brain's muscles of the rightists, but it is useful. Well, second day remains an enigma Lapid's political program. It is not clear which part of the political spectrum are his interests - center, center-left or left. Perhaps this is a special strategy to increase interest and test the feelings of the public. It is important what he will talk from now on. It would be very interesting after the culmination of opinions of politicians and amateurs (like me). At this stage it is fun, sorry if there is offended. However first savage who threw an insult to the enemy (instead of a stone) has set the beginning of civilization. #9 from Kol Yisrael I didn't learned anything concrete
12. Miki is yellow
Rachel ,   US   (01.09.12)
He should run in Kadima next go around.
13. 2 And what isn't lightweight in this country today?
Only Holocaust Day ,   and I wouldn't count   (01.09.12)
14. Lapid
Michael Pielet ,   Israel   (01.09.12)
Take away the gel and what do you have? Absolutely nothing but a man who likes to foment hatred between secular and religious. If he comes to power, Israel and haim will receive what they deserve. Good luck.
15. No,mea, Arabs not calling for end to extremist parties
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.09.12)
In Tunisia they voted in the Islamist Enahda party. In Egypt over 40% of votes went to the Egyptian Brotherhood, over 20% for the Salafist Al' Nour party. In Libya they haven't voted yet, but the Islamists - including some linked to Al Qaida - are in charge. Even moderate Morocco has elected a major Islamist contingent. Lebanon's last election brought a Hizbullah-led coalition to de facto control of the government, while in Syria the Muslim Brotherhood is taking a major role in the opposition. And let's not forget that in 2006 the PA's voters made Hamas the largest Parliamentary bloc.
16. Really?This country needs another party like I need another
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.09.12)
inch added to my ......... in all modesty, that is.
17. Likud wins landslides when it follows it's rightist values.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.09.12)
Eitan is absolutely 100% wrong. Every time Likud moves to the left or centre, it loses. On the other land, Likud wins landslides election victories when it follows it's true values and Constitution. Israel wants and needs a strong, patriotic right wing Likud. That's what LIkud was founded to be and what it is meant to be. That is what Israel wants it to be.
18. #6. Kadima is a very temporary party as Lapid's will be too.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.09.12)
#6. Mike For the moment you are correct. Kadima is the largest Knesset Party. However, polls prove it is falling apart at the seams. We can thank Livni's ludicrous leadership for taking Kadima down faster than it otherwise would have fallen. However, Kadima's fall is inevitable. Kadima is a very temporary party. It is self destructing just like Shinnui did. Just like Lapid's new party inevitably will.
19. 10
zionist forever   (01.09.12)
The current troubles with the radical haredim is a gift to Lapid. Right now everybody is all worked up about the haredi and you combine the celebrity status of Lapid who like his father ios well known for his dislike of haredi and you got the perfect package The seculars will fall in love with the man because he will be telling them all the things they want to hear and he is the right man to be telling them this. This yet another reason to work out the problems with the haredi with plenty of time before the election. If the conditions were right we might even end up with Lapid heading the largest party with Lapid as PM. The haredi really are the key to how well Lapid does.
20. Yair
Michael Pielet ,   Israel   (01.09.12)
Son of a man that was seconds away from being exterminated by the facsist, anti-semitic iron arrow in 1944 in Budapest, Hungary, comes to israel and forments hatred between religious and secular Jews. Now thats a record to be truly proud. Take away the hatred and gel and what do you have? Question, what has yair ever done? Did serve in the IDF? What did he do? Is he a zionist, a patriot? I am laughing now!
21. Yair til now you have been a descent person
Tzvi ,   Even Yehuda   (01.09.12)
22. #7
Michael ,   Moscow, USA   (01.10.12)
Lapid in Knesset is like an Occupy-Wall-Street GLBT churka-man calls for moderation
23. hey Eitan! Likud is a party from the right wing!
Alex Kignel   (01.10.12)
24. Likud has no reason to fear Yair Lapid.
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (01.10.12)
since the revolution of 77, the majority of the people in Israel voted for Likud or the Likud block, which consists of the west bankers, the religious parties, the oriental Jews, and today, the Russian Jews, except for 92 when Rabbi Levinger formed his own right wing party, and split the Likud, which enabled Yitzhak Rabin to win the election and embark on Oslo,Rabin won international support for his effort to put an end to the conflict even though Rabin refused to give the palestians any part of east Jerusalem, and give in on other issues so,there were talks that Abu diss,a little willage nearby, will become the palestinian capital, today even the Likud knows that by the end of the day east Jerusalem will be the palestinian capital, because international public opinion has turned against Israel, and favors the palestinians, the murder of Rabin by the shaven Binladen did a disservice to the westbankers and to Israel, but still the majority of the people will vote for the Likud block, because they hate Oslo, and they believe Natanyahu is a great leader.
