1. He'll dine on Goose liver that tastes of Bacon
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (01.13.12)
2. #1 bacon
yosef ,   williamsburg   (01.13.12)
What do you mean "tastes like bacon"...those Kibbutzim eat bacon but I'm sure Rav Metzger made good arrangements.
3. eating
colin   (01.13.12)
Now the rabbis are trying to preach to kinnutzniks.!!! Nobody needs thier idols and ghosts in our dining room
4. Norbus
Moshe Pesach Geller ,   Jerusalem, Israeld   (01.13.12)
IS it hard for you to be a putz or does it come naturally?
5. The best bacon is in north Negev.
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.14.12)
I always make it there to buy "white." The kibbutz store is great. At Ein Harod my founder uncle ran an irrigation systems factory. Dipping in Maayan Harod after a day of work cools you off nicely. Don't let Haredim stifle freedom in those kibbutzim and choke everything. Kibbutzim are the crux of Israeli existence.
6. This is good. Now let some secular leader go to a yeshiva.
Sebastian ,   Jerusalem   (01.14.12)
I very much enjoy the idea of learning from each other. So now, after the rabbi spoke to young kibbutznikim, I guess it is time to let some secular historians or scientists go to speak to young haredim. Is it possible, or "bringing different parts of the Israeli society closer together" is one sided?
7. Being Jewish means being religious
Yoni the Jew ,   Jewish homeland   (01.14.12)
Judaism is a religion rooted in Torah. Without Torah there is no definition of who and what is a Jew. Without Torah we have no connection to Israel. Without Torah we have nothing. Grow up and realize that Judaism is dependent on Torah and a Jew without Torah is nothing.
8. no.5
abe the babe ,   israel-usa   (01.14.12)
did your uncle also take part in the blashemous golden calf festival which may have been the reaqson G-d sent fire on the modern day worshippers of baal.
9. Chief rabbi makes Kiddush at kibbutz
Connie Mack ,   Camden   (01.15.12)
To #3, COLIN Hi Do you have evidence that the Rabbi entered the kibbutz by force , deception or subterfuge. Do you think that he approached the gate as a lodging seeking Canadian backpacker and subsequently, once inside, changed back into his Rabbinic garb? I think that he might have been a guest of the kibbutz. Perhaps Rabbi Metzger was invited with both enthusiasm and deference. Were any of the ultra-secularists forced to attend the meals and sessions with the Chief Rabbi under threat of expulsion, rank forfeiture or incarceration? Dear brother Colin: Let us try to learn the real facts before we compose and submit anti - clerical diatribes and insults. If ANY reader has validated data concerning the question of invasion or invitation, I will be grateful for details. Maybe Collin will also appreciate the facts. SHAVUA TOV TO ALL B'NAI YISROEL.
10. to #7, "yoni the jew"
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.15.12)
i notice that your talkback was posted on 01.14.12, which according to my calendar, happened to fall on shabbat. does your "torah" not include the laws of shabbat? or are you one of theose "jews without torah" that you denounce in your talkback?
11. thank god for slow news days
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.15.12)
when no one gets hurt in israel!
12. First Chief Rabbi spends Shabbat in a secular kibbutz
Chaim ,   USA   (01.15.12)
With all due respect for Rabbi Metzger, this is NOT "the first time in history that a chief rabbi spends Shabbat in a secular kibbutz". The first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook did this. Perhaps he meant to say "in the modern history of the State".
13. It was obviously Sat. night
goyisherebbe ,   Kochav Hashachar IL   (01.15.12)
Shabbat goes from Fri. sundown to Sat. nightfall. Were you ignorant or just obnoxious?
14. Are you sure?
goyisherebbe ,   Kochav Hashachar IL   (01.15.12)
Rav Kook and the other rabbis who accompanied him on their famous journey did indeed visit secular settlements but it is possible that they were moshavot and not kibbutzim or that the rabbis did not spend Shabbat there. I'll try to check that out.
15. That's already been done before, too
goyisherebbe ,   Kochav Hashachar IL   (01.15.12)
Hareidi families and institutions are always welcoming secular Jews to visit, admittedly some more hareidim more than others and certainly secular people with openness to meet others without an axe to grind.
16. #5,Fires happen from Nature or people, not g nonsense.
