1. If it's from a medical condition then I can understand.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.13.12)
If these kids are fat mostly because they cannot control their eating though, then the military needs to have a pre-service fitness program. Get these little piggies off of fxp and out of the kitchen and get them in shape. Israel cannot afford such weakness. These kids need self-control and discipline.
2. All that bamba has got to go somewhere
Al   (01.13.12)
When I was a kid we ate mean and lean..we were thin as rails as our parents didnt allow us to hang around the house. I went skating at the outdoor rink in -15C no problem. Today the parents are entertaining the kids 24/7 taking them here and there. Toughen them up and set them on their way. Kids are fat today because they are inactive.
3. Kids are not fat because of inactivity
Elias   (01.14.12)
Its the food. Junk food, even in small amounts, will make a person overweight. The human body is designed to use carbohydrates as its source of fuel, and those natural foods rich in carbohydrates are best for us, fruits, potatoes, whole grains, vegetables, legumes. Yes potatoes are an optimal food and people who consume them as a staple are not overweight. But if you take that same food and deep fry it in oil it becomes junk and will make you pack on the pounds. Less falafel, more chickpeas, less french fries, more potatoes and more fruit. Its not an issue of calories but food quality. Stop eating junk, and stop buying junk for your kids.
4. HIgh fructose corn syrup must be banned for food.
Rivkah   (01.14.12)
That is a big cause of obesity since the body cannot metabolize it as it can sugar or honey, so it goes to body fat as the body seals it off from the vital organs to protect them, seeing it as a toxin in the body. If people would stop buying foods with high fructose corn syrup or corn sugar or corn syrup, that would help encourage the production of foods without it.
5. 2 Al: The world is too dangerous to let children roam as you
Rivkah   (01.14.12)
did as a child. A girlfriend can't even let her children leave the house without someone with them because it is dangerous. So they play in their own yard and the family goes biking or hiking or walking or golfing, etc. Both parents work, but they find a way to exercise as a family. There is also an exercise bicycle in the house.
6. subsidising healthy foods
sue ,   Israel   (01.15.12)
If whole wheat bread would be subsidised and fruit and veg prices would be lower half of these children would not be obese. Lower socio economic populations are concerned with food costs and unfortunately in this country a packet of 12 bambas costs less than a loaf of whole wheat bread.
7. don't scare obese children into becoming anorexics
chava ,   yerushalayim   (08.06.12)
Encouraging eating of healthier foods is good. But let's not go overboard. What percentage of teens have eating disorders? My granddaughter is suffering from anorexia because of all the pressure around her to be thin. (Actually, she was never fat, but she thinks she is.) Anorexia & bulimia are serious conditions for the teen, and difficult for the entire family.
