I do not understand why we have to keep them in jail for three years???? If they are in the country illegally, then they have to be sent back to their country of origin. what kind of a punishememnt it is to have them in jail ? thats what they came for, to be lodged and fed in another country!!! I understand that their situation is not an optimal one, but I do not think that Israel, at this point can afford to support people, who actually have nothing to do here. If I am an American of Greek, German or Irish descent, I apply for citizenship in the country and then I stay forever. In much the same way, how can a Jew be an illegal immigrant to Israel?

The reason for the need to hold them so long is because there are so many and we can't get rd of them all within a week. Non of these people will go without a fight and they will appeal to the courts and it will probably be a long drawn out process to get rid of each individual and there are already tens of thousands of them here. Somebody enters the country illegally and shock horror we are allowed to hold them in detention centers rather than letting then go get jobs in Tel Aviv as if they had valid work permits and had visas to stay as long as they want. We should have been locking these people up long ago and making an effort to deport them instead of saying all these illegal migrants are a problem ... next order of business, As for the idea of fining or imprisoning people who illegally employ them, great idea because as long as there are jobs to go to these people will keep coming and without the risk of a serious punishment the employers will always be tempted by cheap labor. The reason for detaining people is not to be a punishment its to stop them going off to Tel Aviv to get jobs and never being heard from again. A detention center is a place where they can all be kept in one place until individuals can have their case heard.
