Gideon Reader   (01.10.12)
Are we to assume that you will shortly issue a strongly worded opinion piece relative to this matter. Please reconsider the depletion of the world's supply of exclamation punctuation. Once gone it will not return.
32. make sure to load all the chambers
jack bauer   (01.10.12)
before playing russian roulette with the nations life... nice one how about instead, sending the terrorists and their sympathizers from yesha to syria?
33. He's inviting Israel's enemies!
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (01.10.12)
34. hieretical..
noname   (01.10.12)
..it's always better to manage a menace than taking a chance confronting it. Besides, who said to take them forever?
35. Ganz, Chief or Army Training in the Sharon era=responsible
ab   (01.10.12)
for lack of training exhibited during Lebanon War by troops following his receipes. Honored by oaf Sharon with the Military Attache post in Washington, this operette general is continuing what he knows best-acting as a Social Care Worker for Israeli enemies
36. Put them on the Russian warships
Devorah   (01.10.12)
docked off the coast of Syria as a show of support. Since Russia is so concerned about them, Russian can take care of them.
37. The Alawites? Really? Take in the Druze, maybe, but not the
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.10.12)
Alawites. They have multiple other options and they have never been all that friendly to Israel. Who knows how they will act within the borders of the State itself. Let them go to... I guess Turkey as someone else said (face it, no one will welcome them in Lebanon).
38. Not every "outside the box" idea is a good one.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.10.12)
Where would Israel's high-tech industry be without the ability to think "outside the box"? Well, sometimes those ideas should be securely packed away, never to see the light of day. This ideas is just that bad. Why should Israel give *any* consideration to taking in those who have advocated, supported, and taken part in war against Israel? Syria borders Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, all of whom are more suitable countries of refuge. If this is Gantz' idea he needs to retract it and Netanyahu need to consider his fitness for his post.
39. Refugees
Natan   (01.10.12)
Let's stop being "nice guys". Nice guys finish last!!!
40. Syrian "refugees???"
David ,   Miami United States   (01.10.12)
I hope, B'Ezrat HaSh-m, that the IDF considers that these "refugees" may be being placed there in order to support an attack from hizbollah or Iranian/Syrian side if/when the conflict begins!! HaSh-m Yishmor Artzeinu v'Yisrael, Am Kerovo!!!
41. Is today the first of April ??
Zev ,   Israel   (01.10.12)
I can't believe this. What is Gantz smoking. Is he talking permanently or just till things quiet down. These are Assad's supporters. They are not like the Christian Lebanese that were our allies .Will they be Israeli citizens?
42. Take them in, support them with welfare!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.10.12)
Kick out all the haredim in order to welcome the Syrians with loving arms! Step 2. ?? Step 3. Profit!
43. Iran should take them in
John Klekota ,   USA   (01.10.12)
Let the Iranians take them in and care for them. The Alawites are Irans good friends.
44. taking in ANYONE?
Joe ,   Florida, USA   (01.10.12)
Giving refuge to those who vow to kill you, and care only for the destruction of Israel? Hmmmm. The neighboring Arab countries SHOULD give a damn, but they don't. We know that. For Israel to take in those that want you dead is a real sweet gesture. In theory, you might be "right" in a humanitarian sense, but you might be "dead" right.
45. Crazy
jsm   (01.10.12)
Now THAT would be crazy!!!
46. What a neighborhood
Cameron ,   USA   (01.10.12)
47. Gen. Gantz is extremely CAPABLE. He knows full well...
Rafi ,   US   (01.10.12)
... what he is saying. 99% of the talkbacks here obviously have no clue relative to wider strategic ramifications of Gen Gantz's offer. I'll say no more but sometimes - not always - it is best to leave the strategy & big decisions to the professionals. To me this is one of those times - and Gantz knows full well what he is doing.
48. why? no purpose will be served. un doesn't even help us with
ralph   (01.10.12)
costs of african refuges, who are far more deserving.
49. golan
forehead1 ,   usa   (01.10.12)
is not israel. what is your problem? allow the syrians on syrian soil -- easy
50. We dont want them.
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (01.10.12)
Pay attention to what people here are writing. They are our enemies and it will be impossible to get rid of them later.
51. This is bad judgement!
Randal ,   Little Rock, AR   (01.10.12)
This is a bad idea!
52. Syrian Refugees
Yuda Kahn ,   Yerushalayim-Brookly   (01.10.12)
They are an internal Syrian problem - not ours. They are our enemy - they lose to their enemy? Let them become lunch.
53. #31, Gideon Reader...hmmm...have I
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (01.10.12)
forgotten anything ? By the way, I have put some exclamation marks under lock and key...for any eventualities...
54. Very probable scenario
Cameron ,   USA   (01.10.12)
The Alawites know that when the Baathist regime finally topples, their Sunni brothers will come with knives for them. True irony in that those who yearned for your destruction for decades are soon to be on their knees before you begging for safety & asylum.
55. Confirms what I have been saying from day 1
Al   (01.10.12)
He is unfit to be COS. No about of rationalizing can correct the mistake made of choosing him as COS. He is a duffus.
56. #21 - how many Jews tried to wipe out african countries?
William ,   Israel   (01.10.12)
Your's is a very poor analogy. The Arabs are NOT friendly to Israel and this particular group has been involved in atrocities against Israeli citizens. Israel already provides a gesture to Africans by allowing those with refugee status to remain in Israel, a safe haven from racist Arabs, until the UN can address the issue.
57. #29 - speaking of uneducated
William ,   Israel   (01.10.12)
the Golan part of Israel, after an Arab genocidal war, so it's not occupied anymore.
58. # what lovely sentiments
R Harris ,   London   (01.10.12)
as always
59. #4 what lovely sentiments
R Harris ,   London   (01.10.12)
Furthermore, most of the xenophobic comments I have read here show that the readers have misunderstood the import of this article. The author and Gantz are not recommending. They are planning for practicalities - i.e. IF the regime falls, there will be people fleeing. Is that so difficult to understand? The second issue is to point out that any Syrian refugees fleeing to the Golan (Jawlan) wll be fleeing onto former Syrian territory - I don't think you will find Syrian refugees trying to flee to Beit Shemesh and personally i don't think I would flee to Beit Shemesh. Perhaps you TBers should get over your rabic xenophobia and try not to storm these pages with TB after TB of anti-Arab racist polemic or simply sheer anti-Arab hatred. It's sickening.
60. To: No. 59
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.11.12)
1. The practicality is that there are other countries where they can flee with majority Arab populations. Why choose the Jewish state? 2. You hit the nail on the head. The Golan is FORMER Syrian territory. It was formally annexed by Israel in 1982, and is now and forevermore ISRAELI territory. 3. Perhaps I should remind you when the U.K. graciously opened its doors to all citizens of former Commonwealth countries, half of Pakistan, a substantial portion of India and the former Caribbean colonies flocked to your shores. That policy ended rather quickly, but the U.K. continues to bear the brunt of that less-than-wise policy to this day. Those immigrants have not made very good British citizens. 4. Since when is protecting national interests the same thing as xenophobia? Doesn't the United Nations have a well-funded division for the care and feeding of refugees? Why should Israel do their job?
