1. The Rabbi in his time
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.11.12)
This Rabbi might have been considered a great intellectual with a brilliant mind in the fourteenth century.
2. Go get a real job buddy !
Haim ,   TA   (01.11.12)
A woman can be anything she damm well wants. Women not only hold down jobs ( i guess thats a term hes not familiar with) and run a household and raise kids all at the same time. Obviously his Royal Holliness Rabbi Yosef Scheinen sees women as domestic slaves and baby producing machines. If he really thinks that a women gets on the front of the bus to provoke his flock of mentally challenged brainwashed sheep who dont seem to be able to controll their sexual urges then i suggests he gets his head out of that book of fairy tales and gets proffessional help.
3. Kavod HaRav!
Woman ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
Please, please, please reconsider your comments. Yes G-d created us gentle but He created us talented, gifted and strong! We are proud pilots, soldiers, lawyers, doctors, bankers, waitresses, and cleaning women. We are the mothers of all of the house of Israel's children. We are the crown of creation and if we want to be Police Commanders because G-d gave us the skills and talent needed for that job - then we will do that too!
4. This is Insane.
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (01.11.12)
Now another rabbi opening up another can of worms. I guess all women are good for is carrying a child for nine months and then giving it what they need, TLC. Please shake these Rabbi's up and tell them what century we are living in. When I read an article like this it makes me want to take my kippa off, but I will not, I want to show there are religious like me who enjoy hearing women sing, sit on a mixed bus, stand in the same que and learning Gamora and other Torah insights.
5. Jewish women are gentle? He should speak to young men...
Scott ,   USA   (01.11.12)
Dating a Jewish woman is more dangerous than diving naked into a shark tank. They'll rip your heart out, and expect you to pick up the tab. (An example -- When I was 26, my Orthodox girlfriend of six months suddenly announced that she was getting married to someone else. I shouldn't be mad, she thought, he made more money than I did, after all, and that I should give her a generous wedding present because she "wasted' six months on someone who didn't make any more money than she did. Want more examples?)
6. Give him a book on how Golda Meir saved Israel. OY VEY!
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.11.12)
7. Women
Moshe ,   Stamford hill,London   (01.11.12)
I agree we can't have women doing any masculine work. Find a nice man and have lots of children, above all all keep the yiddishers happy so that they can study Torah day and night.
8. and he's paid by the State !
nadav ,   ashdod   (01.11.12)
Do you need any more reason to separate religion from State in Israel? I am outraged that OUR taxes (Since the Haredim don't work or when they do they avoid taxation)- are paying medieval superstitious illiterates like these! How much can we take from this?! WE ARE THE MAJORITY!!!
9. Spitting on women would become hazardous to one's health
Thinking Jew ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
10. police commander
colin   (01.11.12)
Who is this ignoramous Where did he get the rights to vote for policemen.?? Does he pay taxes ?? Does he even work ?? Who pays for his childrens food????Send te untruthful misinformed idiot to a yeshiva in the SINAI
11. Rabbi from Ashdod and women
furious! ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
what an idiot.! I am ashamed to tell anyone I came from a religious Orthodox family . But living here I have become totally secular!!!!! Because of idiots like that rabbi!!!
12. Sickness
Sagi   (01.11.12)
in all its glory.
13. Women ! familiarize yourserselves with true religious Rabbis
William ,   Bethesda MD   (01.11.12)
and you will finally realize that you can gain respect, and not just be a S. object of a S. bum
14. His "opinion" is pure misogynism and a Chillul HaShem
Shame on him ,   Jerusalem   (01.11.12)
it is not halacha, only the words of a bigot and male chauvanist. Unfortunately rabbis at the top say this and teach this phylosophy to everyone in their groups. This is where the disrespect and degradation of women begins. Women teaching men Torah is one thing; women being able to do anything else is completely different.
15. Scott #5
R ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
Using your logic, I would conclude that all men named Scott are deadbeats because I happen to know of two who are.
16. right on man!
(01.11.12)
17. @ 11 to "another jew"
boaz   (01.11.12)
calm down man. there are many opinions on this. just because you had a bad childhood it doesn't mean all is bad!
18. scott usa
ng   (01.11.12)
your personal problems have nothing to do with this!
19. Open you eyes
Arielush ,   Ramat Ha Golan   (01.11.12)
Tragically no matter what we write on line, no matter how angry we get. This man has power. The powers that be might condemn him and criticize. But after a comment like that is made it seeps into the unconscious. The next time a position has to be filled, they won't admit it publicly but that opinion of the Rabbi will be taken into consideration. Open your eyes. Look how the status of women is eroding.
20. #14 whats wrong with women teaching men Torah
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (01.11.12)
What are you afraid she will know more than you and show you up.
21. deliberate ignorance
yoni the jew ,   jewish homeland   (01.11.12)
The fact that a women has served in the past is completely irrelevant. The point the Rabbi makes is one that seculars choose to deliberately ignore. There are MAJOR differences between men and women. Why are sports teams segregated? Why is it only one in a hundred thousand that make commander? Why are women physically weaker than men? Why cant you face reality and admit that there are huge differences between the genders and therefore each one should excel in what they were created to excel in? Why is that so hard?
22. Rabbis
John Bloom ,   Malaga   (01.11.12)
We should start to ask if we like to be ruled by a minority. In case the answer is no, we shall take the right steps in order to not let it go on like this. I am Haredi but bigott.
23. Light unto the nations?
Zoe ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.11.12)
The current Haredi rabbinical leadership wants to send us all back into the dark ages. Why would anyone, who believes in G-d or does not believe in G-d, trust these people to lead and influence the direction of this country? While they are so proud of preserving "our" tradition, they are ignoring 2,000 years of western civilization, which they choose to scorn. What a shame! And they pretend to be a light unto the nations? I believe in G-d, but not in rabbis who prefer to send us all back into the dark ages.
24. Gentle? Women?
Glen ,   Tel Aviv   (01.11.12)
Has he seen the little old dear in England take on 3 male muggers with a handbag? Has he been pushed and shoved by the grey-haired, delicate dears who have no intention of letting anyone board before them? Does his heavy beard and heavy Polish clothing in a boiling hot country affect his brain's ability to think?
25. he has one unlike you!
to haim hel aviv   (01.11.12)
all you do is spread you self hatred all day on ynet! so haim get a real job!
26. Even Rabbis; particularly Rabbis...
Gideon Reader   (01.11.12)
...can and do frequently show the inconsiderable sechel that emanates from their collective tuchis, in an uncalled for and blatantly sub-moronic anti female rant, significant of nothing. Wrong on so many issues that one begins to understand the positions and statements are not of this era, but of a society that died off in other generations but have not had the decency and courtsey to lie down and moulder. And get a hat that fits, putz.
27. God may have created women 'gentle'
Jacob Blues ,   New York City, USA   (01.11.12)
But life where grown men spit on young girls, and call grown women whores and sluts, make them toughen up and understand that being gentle in the face of such ignorance and hatred leaves you in the back of the bus.
28. Rabbis are just men - and that explains a lot.
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (01.11.12)
Their opinions are, of course, biased. But I wish they would remember that they are just human beings, not some supreme being.
29. Washington, DC's police chief is a woman
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.11.12)
What a shame so many of Israel's rabbis promote such attitudes. This is the result of a very limited education and a culture closed to contrary ideas. It's no wonder so many are turned off to the faith. These guys are an embarrassment.
30. #28, Switch to Reform and find many women rabbis.
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.11.12)
It's time to update your Judaism, but I will remain without any. But I admit the Reform Jews I know are a happy bunch here, with no discernible complexes. Women seem completely equal to men in everything.
