1. I support Ethiopians 200%
Yossef   (01.11.12)
Ashkenazim, Israel doesn't belong to you !!!
2. wrong
Marco   (01.11.12)
Ethiopians work, pay taxes and serve in the army so not only should they not say thank you for what they get, they should demand exactly what other citizens who work and pay taxes get. On the other hand, to compare Israel to Apartheid is an outrage and an insult for the victims of actual Apartheid. Thanks to BDS types that word now seems to mean "a country I don't agree with so I will use the worst word I can come up with to communicate my displeasure". You people are making a mockery of the victims and you should be ashamed.
3. she's right ! If they are not happy they can leave Israel
(01.11.12)
4. This shouldn't be a war of words or being thankful
Talula ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
What should be looked into is the 'agreement' that Kiryat Malachi residents have signed making a commitment not to sell or rent out apartments to Ethiopians - that is pure and utter racism and it's VILE! They have every right to feel the way they do. How stupid to tell them to be thankful for what they have. Stupid woman. It disgusts me to the pit of my stomach.
5. I like the way that immigrants from
jason white ,   afula, israel   (01.11.12)
ethiopia or the former soviet union came here with nothing and received more than immigrants that came from rich western countries. They show no gratitude for what they received. We even had to pay for our own airplane tickets and excess baggage. When I came here 36 years ago, I spent about 4 hours in a one star hotel on Allenby street. Then My four fellow American olim and I were sent to two different kibbutzim. I was already working the day I arrived on kibbutz. We were not put up in 4 or 5 star hotels! The Jewish agency did not do squat for us. Back then, they worked for the russian olim. Even when I did my national service in the I.D.F. ,I received no special benefits. If the russians and ethiopians do not like it here and diss the state, then let them go back from the hell holes they came from!
6. #3. Yeah. Unhappy hilltop youth and haredim can leave too.
Binyamin Dissen ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
7. Israels problem is not racism its culture clashes
zionist forever   (01.11.12)
Ethiopians, French, Anglos, Russians, Bedouin, Druze, Atabs, Saphardi, Ashkenaz, Haredi. You have take all of those different cultures and thrown them all into a tiny country and it is inevitable your going to get culture clashes. Before all this nonsense with the radical haredi the secular & haredi communities didn't like each other because each others cultures are foreign to the other and both think they are the enlightened ones. I personally cannot stand the Russians and the arabs who are a bunch of Ethiopians have also never settled to the same extent other olim have, of course part of it is racism but part of it is they are African in a very European & Middle Eastern country. Even today most are uneducated and so are doing the low paid jobs. It is also true the Ethiopians should be grateful for what they have because Israeli taxpayer paid millions of dollars to the Ethiopian government for permission to bring these people to israel. Basically we had to buy them and there are not many countries who would do that. Israel isn't perfect but its the best they got or ever will have.
8. #1 Do Ashkenazim live in Kiryat Malachi?
Logic ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
I doubt that there are a significant number of them in that town.
9. Eithiopians
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (01.11.12)
Israel has given Eithiopians more shelter than any other country on the face of the earth. Why isn't Eithiopia helping their own people?
10. #1:Exactly! Israel belongs to Ashkenazim who are at least
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.11.12)
1.75cm. in height, come from Anglo-German background and detest garlic & amba! The rest: be thankful for what we give you!
11. Jason #5
R ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
I'm curious how you dealt with the employers who wouldn't hire you because you were American and the landlords who wouldn't rent to you because you were white. That must have been hard to deal with.
12. @ 5 funny
abee   (01.11.12)
so you came here 36 years ago? you talk like a king and immigrants from ethiopia or russians are not
13. Take Advantage of Your Diversity
Tom ,   Lagos   (01.11.12)
Israel should take advantage of his rich cultural diversity , The Ethiopian community has a lot contribute to Israel, they are a dream come true for the Jewish people. Therefore they should be given equal opportunities in Israel. Racism is a destroyer of mankind, and Israel is too beautiful and important to imbibe in racism.
14. Minister Landver : Keep your reverse racist to yourself !
Moshe ,   Usa   (01.11.12)
Your ingrate !
15. t0 #1, Yossef
nadav ,   tlv   (01.11.12)
The people in Kiryat Malachi (not to mention Beit SHemesh and Netanya etc) who are discriminating against Ethiopian Jews are actually Mizrachi! So stop your racism against Ashkenazim - who actually introduced democracy and free market economics long to the middle east - and fight the endemic racism and superstitions among your ethnic group!
16. Etheopians : do not bite hand that fed U
Tambour ,   Eilat   (01.11.12)
You can't change who or what U are. Coming here late, Big allowances made to give you any benefit of the doubt, Try to see things in perspective. No one forced you to come.
17. You're all missing the point here!!!
Talula ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
All they want is to be able to buy/rent a house in Kiryat Malachi! Do you think they should be grateful for not being allowed to rent/buy houses? No-one really has a ride on Easy Street here - but let's face it, they are special, they came from a completely different culture. We need to show tolerance and treat them as we would our neighbours. As for the Russians, well they can all go back on the first available Aeroflot flight. No-one is going to miss them.
18. 4
zionist forever   (01.11.12)
I think the situation in Kiriyat Malakhi is its doesn't have a huge population and already it had an influx of Ethiopians and there are people worried the whole town will be taken over by Ethiopians if action is not taken to discourage them from coming. I don't say its right but I think there are good reasons for it in the eyes of the people who are operating these policies and its not racism.
19. #5
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (01.11.12)
YEAH!
20. Ethiopians should 'say thank you' for what they got
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (01.11.12)
I agree, maybe the state is not selective enough. As a long time immigrant, I can thank Canada for the opportunity the rest is up to us. Israel is no different.
21. 9
zionist forever   (01.11.12)
Israel BOUGHT the Ethiopians from the Ethiopian government. The government of Ethiopia were not going to let these people move to Israel so Israel paid them millions of dollars to buy their freedom pretty much. Once here they were given all kinds of benefits so bad as the Ethiopians think their life is here I wonder if they appreciate exactly what Israel did to bring them here?
22. #5
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (01.11.12)
YEAH!
23. Wait, what? It's the actions of individual Israelis.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.11.12)
That's not apartheid. That's just people being racist on their own. I suppose that Israel could have a housing equality act to combat it though. The lack of one does not make Israel an apartheid state by any real stretch of the imagination. Why are people always pinning the actions of a few people on Israel as a whole? Heck, sometimes those responsible aren't even Israeli Jews (American Jews or European Jews).
24. Ethiopian's we came to get you
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (01.11.12)
to bring you home, you didn't have to sneak in Admit it, you are now far better off than you were in Ethiopia Your culture from the old land will need time to adapt to ours, we are not going to adapt to your old rather primitive ways, it would be detrimental to both of us
25. Jason #5 - why didn't you walk here on aliya?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (01.11.12)
I hate the way that well-off uppity immigrants from well-off western countries who arrived here with money in the pockets like to lecture the Jews who walked here from Africa (with thousands dying on the way) with the rags on their backs. They get beaten up by racist Russian immigrants, and denied housing and jobs by racist sabras. You owe the Ethiopians an apology for telling them they should be thankful for being insulted to their face in Israel by white Jews, rather than by Christians or Muslims in their old country. It also seems that you didn't bother watching the tv report on which this article is based on. So yea, I didn't make aliya to have to suffer with ignorant racist boobs blowing air out their wrong sides - I got enough of that back in my old country. The Ethiopians got a bum deal from the day they landed here and the money grubbing religious establishment fought over whether or not they are ashkenazim or sephardrim (because then one school system or the other would get more of our tax money that they could then skim). They are neither. They are Ethiopians and Jews and the victims of a racist society here in their own homeland.
26. Ethopians want gov. to be thought police?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.11.12)
Yet again one group is trying to force their opinion on another group. The people of Kiryat Malachi have as much right to decide who lives in their area as anyone else does. The government cannot force anyone to sell their house to an Ethiopian if they dont want to. And the Ethiopians do not have the right to demand that, even if they are a minority underprivileged group (which I dont believe they are)..
27. #17 need to tolerate Ethiopians but not Russians.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.11.12)
How about the Cubans? Or the South Sudanese? Wait, we had to tolerate the Ashkenazim when they arrived from war torn Europe, but no longer. What about the South Americans? or Cubans? Or French? Please list your likes and dislikes.
28. #10 - detest garlic?!
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.11.12)
I'm reconsidering making alliyah now, can't have that!
29. Sofa, sit down!
(01.11.12)
30. Ok then I will say thank you for what I got thusly:
Sephardi Leftist ,   Israel   (01.11.12)
warning cynical message follows: "Dear Madam Landver and all who think like you: Thank you for raising your boots off our beautiful brown backs after stamping us down for all these years. It was a real pleasure to have your boots on our beautiful brown backs. Actually, we will almost miss them - as now breathing will be ever so much easier. Clearly in the future we will forget your boots on our backs and we'll find something else to complain about!
