... cough, cough... "ehh... what? No, it wasn't us."
2. Doing a 'Peres'
fred nerks   (01.13.12)
Instead of simply saying Israel wasn't involved, he has to add 'to the best of my knowledge'..thuas showing his impotency, lack of trustworthiness in the upper echelons of Israeli intelligence affairs, Why not insead show support by dispelling myths, instead of his usual ambiguous self: doing a classic Peres
3. I doubt that anyone will believe him, I don't
David Ha'ivri ,   Shomon, Israel   (01.13.12)
4. could be a false flag op
jack bauer   (01.13.12)
pretty much any country could do it and rest assured in the knowledge the israelis would get the blame... it is like killing two birds with one stone... probably the americans
5. It was the BRITS.. smells of 007 all over it.
Yoni   (01.13.12)
They have beef with the Iranians, look what happened last month.. The Brits have done sort of assasinations before, but obv no no admits. The Queen and her boys are a clever bunch..
6. From Iranian perspective Peres must be trusted!
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (01.13.12)
Since Iran claims that it isn't developing a nuclear bomb, it also must accept, that Israel is claiming that it isn't behind the bombings. Viewed from this angle, Peres is right, if he insists, that Israel isn't involved in the Tehran hit. If we are talking about Israeli involvement, we are implicitly talking about the institute from TA. This organization is highly capable and professional, but it cannot be made responsible for everything. Furthermore we must see, that a significant opposition is existing inside Iran and we don't have any reliable information, how far reaching the contacts between Israel and the Iranian opposition are. All this is very complex. Some of it certainly is secret. So secret, that not even the secret carrier knows it. Of course we all like to puzzle over these incidences but this doesn't justify to distort a speculation into a statement of fact. Hence Peres is absolutely correct in denying Israels involvement.
7. Now all we need is for PM Netanyahu to say:
(01.13.12)
"My Government will neither confirm nor deny any knowledge of this action"
8. It was 007. Why not?
usa   (01.13.12)
They are the best.
9. Definitely not behind : in front maybe?
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (01.13.12)
10. Actually, it's best that Peres be kept out of the loop
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.13.12)
According to Rodger Claire's "Raid on the Sun", Peres not only opposed the 1981 raid on Iraq's nuclear reactor but leaked word of the plan to try to stop it. So despite the work he did to build Israel's strategic assets decades ago, his maverick nature, his inability to stick to the "ceremonial" nature of his office, and his lack of discretion makes clear the less Peres knows about Israel's secret war the better. Peres also makes the same mistakes Clinton made when she categorically denied the US was involved. Neither the US nor Israel should be helping Iran narrow down the suspects, nor should they be telegraphing their fear of Iran's response. Instead, Iran should be left wondering and worrying about the potential responses to their nuclear project.
11. Whatever
Jared ,   Stillwater   (01.13.12)
So if Israel was involved; what is anyone on earth going to do? shake a stick or bark up a tree
12. rational choice theory
RC ,   USA   (01.13.12)
Hmmm. It must have been Hezbollah so that Israel could be blamed. On the other hand it could have been Ahmadinejad so that the war could start and the Mahdi can climb out of the well. Thinking about it some more though points towards the Palestinians so that Israel could be blamed for not making peace. So many possibilities, I’ll get back to y’all, all this thinking is giving me a headache.
13. would you believe me if I told you I was a martian?
zionist forever   (01.13.12)
Of course Israel killed him who else would? The Americans got civilized and gave up on assassinations like this decades ago. Israel is the only westernized country left that still sends people to foreign lands to assassinate people it considers enemies or aiding an enemy. The chances of it being anybody but Israel are very low - zero but Peres has to give the diplomatic response because thats the way the game works but nobody in Iran or anywhere else believes a single word of it.
14. To the best of his knowledge...
Harry ,   Canada   (01.13.12)
That means exactly nothing. 007, my foot! It was a Saudi plot engineered by Harry Potter. Under shariah law, sorcery is recognized as a reality. So there you have it. Peres is telling the truth...to the best of his knowledge....
15. Just because an individual doesn't have knowledge
Christ   (01.13.12)
Doesn't mean that Israel didn't do it. It is called ambiguity, and it looks like Iran is about to twat the dispora for the actions of israel against it's citizens
16. It is not Peres job to say anything!
Jayjay ,   Israel   (01.13.12)
The Presidents role is purely for ceremonial purposes....he has no right to be commenting on anything! I, and most Israeli, wish that this traitor would just retire and shut up!
17. #12
Yoseph ,   USA/Israel   (01.13.12)
RC is closest to reality. Use logic! Who stands to gain the most in world opinion? Iran! It is psychological warfare. The scientist was expendable. His usefulness has already been surpassed. Better dead as a propaganda tool. It was Iran who did it, if not, it was an ally of Iran.
18. Errr ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.13.12)
It's not exactly as if that dotty old fool is in the loop ....
19. "to the best of his knowledge" ?
Avi ,   Israel   (01.13.12)
Pleaaaaase Peres, shut up already....
20. #11 Jared
(01.13.12)
No Jared, no one will shake a stick or bark up a tree, but you've better start looking over your shoulders stupid because assassination is a two way street.

Who do you represent no name?A potential paradise seeker?
22. To the best of his knowledge?
Daniel ,   tracy USA   (01.14.12)
Of course they are not going to tell him anything. Geez!! It is called deny-ability folks. Probably even the head of the MOSSAD knows. He knows there is a plan of action but most of the details would be left out.
23. Hey Israel, Get With It
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (01.14.12)
From afar, Israeli leaders seem confused, not knowing what they are doing. From the paint balls against the flotilla, to the assassination in Dubai, and now to this half-baked response by Peres..Israel again has shot itself in the head. First of all, Israel needs to use Bibis spokesperson for this type of incident. The US has several State Dept. people. Hillary catagorically denied it..and is she to be believed? Israel seems the likely culprit however. Israel should say simply: "Wwe do NOT comment on intelliegence activities". Thats it. Say nothing. " To the best of my knowledge". That DOES not absolve Israel of actually doing the dastardly deed,. BTW, killing a nuke scientists, whose purpose is to drop bombs on Tel Aviv or NYCity..is not so bad. Again, and again, and again, Israel screws up. Oh BTW, now Israel is made to look the aggressor at those Jordanian talks, with the EU..the Pals say, no talks unless the 67 lines and end to building. Same old, tired threats. And what will Israel say in rebuttal, saomething dumb. Hey Israel, its one thing to condemn Jews on steroids ( Charedi) before the world, and another to handle geopolitical affairs.
24. The Kurds Wanted HIm Dead Too
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (01.14.12)
Like the Muslim countries dont threaten and attempt kidnappings and assassinations. Clerics have issued to the deaths of every Jew for years..and if they could, would. And who killed Harirri I ask? Who tried to kill the Saudi ambassador? Im sure the Ruskies have had their attempted killings. To those who say only Israel..come on, wake up. Who would want to kill an Iranian.anyway lets start with 20m people who protested the elections last year. There are groups within Iran which hate this regime..and there are people who dont fathom an Iranian nuke. How did Mossad infilttrate and tie that bomb anyway? Thats quite a feat. If proven catagorically, its an act of war..and I doubt Israel wants to exaccerbate things worse, giving Iran excues. Re: Israel, the best defense is a good offense. Bombing their 9 nuke sites is a good starter..then expand to all 33. You have the stealth and countermeasures..For Rev Guards, use your lithium/cobalt. Thats what I call effective deterrance. Oh btw, ever hear of the Kurds? I can think of a few Iraqis who dont exactly want an Iranian nuke..like all the Sunnis.
25. Stand by for retaliation.......

It always has-so what's the big deal?
27. #26 It's a revelation that .....
Robert ,   Australia   (01.14.12)
.....a Ynet poster actually admits that whatever Iran's past actions they have been retaliation against Israels deeds.
28. Ever since oil-rich Muslim countries
0 tolerance to ,   Iranian   (01.14.12)
have gathered tons of money and gold, they have put every penny to the benefit of arms race, world domination, killings, world terror, declaring every religion and nation as pagan except for the Muslim one, keeping their own flesh and blood under strict and barbaric Shariah rules and reverting every time to the rule of a few against their own people and against everyone. For this domination, regimes like the Saudi, Iranian, Lebanese-Hezbollah, Egyptian, Sudanese, Pakistani, Syrian, Lybian and others have always been ready and wholeheartedly willing to murder their own people who dared ask and try otherwise. Today, Iran is hoping to achieve the bomb and immediately drop it on Israel or USA. Nothing more, nothing less ! The simple question is whether the normal, democratic, life thriving world is ready to deal with such a menace. If not, then change your frozen European attitudes and allow those who are apt and willing, to swipe the Iranian nuclear capabilities off this endangered planet. There are a few countries in this world who are ready and waiting to do this, I mean, to clean up the Iranian mess and repel any other Muslim menace.
