61. you must be joking...........
oliver ,   Eilat   (01.21.12)
62. moronic rabbinical law
real vision ,   usa   (01.21.12)
These rabbis that pronounce these God'S Laws are morons. No where in the Torah are these laws. The torah commands us to Rest. It does not say crawl in a hole and fast and just breathe. Life is too short to listen to idiots telling you how to live. I wonder if he wipes his butt or does he have a shabbos goy standing there
63. toilet paper
real vision ,   usa   (01.21.12)
If this idiotic rabbi commands us and his family to not lift anything, then what does he do when he sits on the toilet. Do they have a shabbos goy to carry the toilet paper. This rabbi has lost touch with the meaning of loving GOD
64. Analytical Theorist
Zivron   (01.21.12)
The Rabbi is a theorist and his ideas merit being investigated for in war electricity may fail. But the pikuash nefesh rule causes invalidation for some may overdo the rule and put their lives and the lives of their children some who may have the potential to be great and merciful scholars in danger . The suggestion cannot be sustained but a non electrical system is a highly meritorious idea from the security and religious view.
65. isn't flushing toilets moving things into the public square?
Yanni   (01.21.12)
which is forbidden, how does one get around that?
66. Though shall not stinketh.
RC ,   USA   (01.21.12)
Folks, even the priests had to wash themselves before going into the tabernacle or die (Exodus 30:21). By the way, if someone’s house or apartment was starting to catch on fire on a Sabbath day, would you not help them put it out because it is work? Birdi at # 31 is right; there will be a dark stinky cloud over Israel if you do not use your common senses.
67. to # 12
jim ,   USA   (01.21.12)
I believe it has to do with not having a fire in your home on Shabbat. It is said that a spark is caused which is 'fire; so every time an electrical item is turned on it causes a spark (whether it is seen or not). Not that I agree with the Rabbi on this one, I just thought I would explain the reasoning, fire, not work.

Electricity is also needed for hospitals etc. and can be a matter of life and death in our present day society. This brings in a greater law. Remember, the Temple also had to be manned.
69. #35 Henry
Yoseph ,   USA/Israel   (01.21.12)
There are six other days that you may work. If you consider reading Torah work, do it then and not on Shabbat. Listen to it read in Synagogue. Read it the other six days and hide it in your heart where it should be. (Yermyahu 31) Quit making stupid excuses. If you want to be disobedient at least have the decency to be honest about it.
70. #14 Ben
Yoseph ,   USA/Israel   (01.21.12)
While I agree with you for the most part, I do take offense at your broad generalization that none here are knowledgable to make a judgment regarding this halachic ruling. One does not have to be a Rabbi to be knowledgable. Although I don't claim to have such knowledge, I have spent many years of my life studying Torah and I suppose there are many more who have much greater knowledge than I would ever hope to have who are not Rabbis.
71. 30 Birdi Add baloney and everything
Yehudit ,   Israel   (01.21.12)
is there.
72. #69 - I am not obedient to anyone as I am neither a servant
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.21.12)
nor a slave. I am not making excuses, lol, I am being honest. It is work as I find it exceptionally dull rather than enlightening (in fact when I see people quoting passages from it I skip over reading almost by reflex). I prefer to actually dig for the stuff it talks about rather than just read about it on any day. If I must read something from it to put the evidence in context though, I will. Even if I didn't find it dull then I would still have to balance Torah-reading with actual studying that I need to do so I can get a job at some point as a useful member of society. =p I keep my body pure. I keep kasher very strictly (in fact I am going to a new level and am about to tovel my new meat, dairy and parve dishes, flatware and cookware in the snow), and I do not imbibe alcohol, smoke or do drugs. I think that is enough of a commitment for now. I keep it that way because I enjoy it. I don't fear that I will annoy God by not doing something (unless not doing that something directly or indirectly harms another) as I believe he is probably a cool fellow.
73. ARBITRARY CRITERIA
David ,   New York, NY   (01.22.12)
The God of Israel has many intense concerns: Seating arrangements, certainly one's APPEARANCE (sounds a little supeficial), an Israel to be governed by strictures adapted from earlier MILLENNIA., conduct of the IDF, to name but a few. But then much lesser concerns about certain other subjects: personal hygience, service to the nation OF ANY KIND, a contribution to the nation OF ANY KIND, subsistence by government welfare (living off the labor of others) etc. It's kind of difficult to make sense of these rather ARBITRARY criteria.
74. And the toilet?
mea   (01.22.12)
Toilets have valves, and the sewage travels to filtration systems so I believe it would be death by stoning for flushing in a religious household. That's a total step up from the primitive Muslim way of burying up to the head and then stoning, which is so heathen in comparison. If you're impure, you're impure, what can I say. Now the only question is whether pushing the little button on can of air freshener is wrong too. I think some people have too much damned time on their hands. Get a job.
75. tap water
hadassah ,   wilmington, de   (01.22.12)

Dorothy Friend ,   TEl Aviv   (01.22.12)
...can make the Protocols of the Elders of Zion look factual! They really think they can rule the world.
80. #57 Check this out
Steve ,   UK Leeds   (01.22.12)
Big boy Rob from New Jersey is setting out new guidelines to the Torah... for the Lord has spoken to Rob and the Lord has said "Hey Rob, would you mind updating the Torah for me and BTW Rob you can decide with your genius head what is classified as work and what is not". LOL To you I say, "Rob brother, have you ever considered that when the Torah talks about work, it is not what you and I consider work.... Here is some advice, take sometime to study the Talmud on Mesechet Shabbat, I know it is rather a thick book and there are hundreds if not thousands of books from very wise Rabbis to explain each word in depth Rob with your brilliant head you should be able to cover it in no time at all..... Looking forward to hear from you then.
81. 72 Henry You have to climb....
Yehudit ,   Israel   (01.22.12)
the mountain, before you can enjoy the view.Do it at your pace,Henry.Nobody should push you.You are absolutely right.Your brains are on the right place.Kol Hakavod.
82. # 78
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.22.12)
Charles, if you knew where the rabbi is from, why did you ask?
83. Ridiculous statement
Bubba Metzia ,   Orlando, Florida   (01.22.12)
The article's comment about stoning is ridiculous and baseless and Ynet probably made it just to incite people against Chareidim.
84. Birdi 82 , i knew , but i wanted YOU
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.22.12)
to see what the relation was with this question . What else could those letters mean you think if not this town ? or is this to difficult for you ?
