Because that is what he did. He should have told the parents that this is a sin against G'd and the law of the land and that punishment is in order. That he did not do so, makes him an accomplice. lf he is charged, jailed and sued, it may be a good example for the rest of the Israeli rabbis who cover up unspeakable deeds. Perhaps I don't follow these reports closely enough, but I never heard of a prosecuted rabbi for a case like this. And that should be the first item on the to do list after the perpetrators are arrested.

The mother, father AND the Rabbi should be held accountable. If the parents KNEW about it, they just let it go on and on. That's horrible! There is no excuse for that. And the idea that this is a common occurrence, as the rabbi said, is appalling. Jewish Rabbi's are no better than those Catholic priests that have been molesting children for centuries. how can you know this? You are sitting in Brooklin? There is freedom of the press in Israel, no? They can and should report it, religious, secular, whatever. Keeping quiet about it is a crime. So, you would be in favor of not reporting it because it was a Rabbi who gave the advice? The parents should not have listened to the bad advice, but in a religious society people are brainwashed into believing everything the 'leader' says, happens in all religions- unfortunately- and Judaism is NO exception.
