1. What none of them working today ?
Haim ,   TA   (01.15.12)
Must have all got the day off work ..
2. Mafia
Working Israeli   (01.15.12)
They are essentially an organized crime group and should be dealt with as such
3. Haredim
dave ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
Only 25% of Haredi males work. 99.89% of their boys don't serve in the armed services or community services. Once their immediate families have more than 5 kids, their municipal taxes pretty much are non existent. Because they 'learn' they have no national taxes. They are living here on the backs of normal citizens like me, yet when they're caught ripping us off for millions of shekels, stealing our hard earned money ..........they riot! What's wrong with this picture?! How many more years are we going to let this go on. I'm an observant Jew being shoved out of Bet Shemesh by their aggressive land grabs. This is just another story that disgusts me and it should wreak disgust in any normal Israeli citizen. The stealing must stop! They should be so humble for us paying for their thievery.
4. Time to collect taxes!
Taxpaying Israeli ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
The police and tax authorities should take advantage of the situation and do a mass collection of taxes from the rioters.
5. Rotten to the core
RC ,   USA   (01.15.12)
What is it with these people? They spit on little girls for not dressing to their standards, but then riot and threaten to set Jerusalem on fire in support of someone who has been arrested for corrupt acts? Something is very wrong with these people.
6. nobody working? #1
jo moor   (01.15.12)
Work is a 4 letter word! So is play! Work is for people who cant play eg golf, soccer, protest march, swim etc etc. There are many occupations besides work. But none so honest and productive
7. So for those guys , criminals may not be arrested ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.15.12)
And they want some respect from us ! Endangering lives in Beth Shemesh : MURDERERS ! let them all clean the street with their tongue until no drop of oil remains .
8. Eda Haredit group is not representative of Haredim
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.15.12)
Knowing the standard of Journalism in this country I am sure there is more to this story. Even so, it's hard to think of anything that should prevent these people being severely dealt with, on mass. This group, the Eda Hardit group, is out of control. Time to take their leader to task for their behavior.
9. More Of The Same
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (01.15.12)
If these parasites worked for a living or served in the army, they wouldn't have any time to riot. The truth is that Israel would be better off without them.
10. Thou Shalt Not Steal
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
Make them pay what they have stolen, its about time they learn to follow the 10 commandments, "THOU SHALT NOT STEAL" I am a religious Jew and I hate them for what they are doing to this country.
11. Each time I see one of them...
Walt K ,   Sherbrooke, Canada   (01.15.12)
It reminds me a Louis Funes' movie character : Rabbi Jacob.
12. This is such a Hillul HaShem
Shame shame shame ,   Israel   (01.15.12)
No wonder secular hate these kinds of heredim. They are not religious. They only dress like religious people so they can fool the world, demand obedience and collect tzadaka. But they give a very bad name to the rest of the religious. The world looks on these as the guys who are supposed to be the models for the rest. Instead they are simple crooks. On top of theft they act like thugs. Don't worry. HaShem is not fooled. And He won't be answering their prayers.
13. its nice to be above the law...
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.15.12)
14. this is a step to far
zionist forever   (01.15.12)
They can't come out and protest in their masses because six of their number have been arrested. The fact they live a Torah observant lifestyle doesn't mean you don't get a few rotten apples and in this case they haven't even been found guilty of a crime just arrested on suspicion. Without justifying the protest it does seem this cab driver should be held responsible as he seemed to be encouraging the protest. Its very easy to encourage people to protest especially in a small overcrowded area like Mea Sharim.
15. Incredibly biased.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.15.12)
"Rioting" has a very very specific meaning. It is a violent protest characterised by just that; actual physical violence and destruction of property. This is a protest, not a riot. The writer should be ashamed for writing what is basically a lie.
16. On another note though, they have no real reason to protest
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.15.12)
tax evasion is tax evasion, but the author is still reporting in a very dishonest manner.
17. So this is news? fill the jails with them
Mike ,   Raanana Israsel   (01.15.12)
18. YOU (reader) are NOT doing ENOUGH
Israeili Jew   (01.15.12)
You must demonstrate as firmly and long as it takes to break these hypocrites -- who defame Torah in the name of Torah -- off of our backs. The Rabanut must be taken away from them so that Torah and Jews can flourish.
19. Why is a few hundred people rioting NEWS?
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
Lets see, there are probably a million haradim in the population. That means that 999,600 are not rioting and moreover the Eda only account for a few thousand of the million. What needs to be brought to account here are not the nuts of the Eda, but secular elements of the press who wish to tar all haradim with the same brush. Now that's really shameful!
20. 10 # Except taxes, Dinah De Malkhuta Optional
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
21. Same thing just happened with Arabs in Nablus.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.15.12)
Not that I approve of this but I wonder if the same condemnation will be shouted about the Arabs who threw stones at police arresting 3 Arabs in Nablus? Will it even be reported?
22. Atomic tax clock ticking in US too
mea   (01.15.12)
It seems to be that it would be fairly easy to make the entire house of cards come down for many Orthodox groups, such as Chabad simply by following the "fundraising" events inside the united states. Once the Internal Revenue Services starts digging on Chabad, and online "charities" for "starving Jewish Children", the entire house of cards will fall. Enjoy.
23. #21--wrong comparison
sara ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.15.12)
The Arabs of Nablus have made it clear that they are our enemies, so why should it be news when they attack us? The "pious Jews" of the chareidi communities are supposed to be frum, law-abiding, humble examples of Yiddishkeit at its best--NOT a bunch of thugs rioting in the street and demanding immunity from well-deserved prosecution. I'm frum, and I find these rioting, thieving parasites are a disgrace to Judaism and an affront to Hashem. THAT's why this is reported and the Arabs are not.
24. to #19: learn a little torah!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (01.15.12)
the torah says, explicitly: "tzedek, tzedek tirdof". why are these people demonstrating in support of accused thieves? is this the pursuit of "tzedek"? they seem to have no shame, and have previously demonstrated in support of convicted criminals as well. and where is the majority of hareidim, who supposedly don't like the "extremists"? why are they not counter-demonstrating, in support of "tzedek"? they tar themselves with the same brush - as the torah says, "shetika kehodaya damya".
25. # 21 Haredim and Arabs have a lot
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (01.15.12)
in common, both oppose a Jewish state, the difference, the arabs throw bombs, and the haredim throw stones.
26. Yair Lapid is laughing all the way to the Knesset
zionist forever   (01.15.12)
Yair Lapid just like his pathetic father is going to make one of his main policies a war on the haredi and all these idiot haredi do is increase the number of seats he gets. If the haredi make enough trouble the might even end up with making his party the biggest and him the next PM. PLEASE PLEASE YOU IDIOT HAREDI DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND DONT HELP BRING YOUR ENEMY TO POWER
27. Send the hara-dim into exile forever!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.15.12)
We can do without them. They should have no rights as citizens since they contribute nothing to the state,
28. 24 You still haven't explained why this is news!
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
and perhaps you haven't heard, Sometimes silence speaks louder than words. This is one of them.
29. # 3 haredim not the only ones stealing
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (01.15.12)
It is the administration that allows haredim and others to avoid taxes Culture of no akhra'yut , beaurocracy mal-administration of laws that breed these anomalies. Where I live, millionnaires from USA & Europe built illegal extentions , rob Jerusalem of Arnona, and no one wants to know.. A tighter system would be a deterrant to such abuses by Haredim, and others,
30. Enough of the Charade
yaakov ,   TA   (01.15.12)
These are pretend Jews dressed in costumes to mimic dress of past centuries. Real Jews behave with respect to other humans, and if living in Israel, accept its sovereignty and pay taxes and enlist in the IDF. These people pretend to be holy, but they haven;t the faintest idea that holiness has little to do with rituals and a lot to do with helping mankind.
