1. Syrian WMD's
mindRider ,   The Free World   (01.17.12)
Israel should see to it that these weapons are NOT transported to Hizbollah and counter to when the IDF only monitored the re-armament transports to these terrorists after the 2006 war actually DO something about it.
2. Israel is surround by countries it doesn't get along with,
Ken Burma ,   on the road to Peace   (01.17.12)
eventually their going to have weapons like you, so don't you think its a good time to face the facts. I know, you want this and g-d gave you that, but along with all the sh-t comes war, so get use to it. I mean Israel is the land of war no, its never had peace or wanted peace has it. So please, quit cry to the rest of the world, you made your bed, lie in it, and if you get tired, leave by the same door you came.
3. IDF should contact Syrian opposition
William ,   Israel   (01.17.12)
and work out a plan to nail the WMDs once Assad's govt goes down. The Opposition won't be able to stop Hizbullah stealing these weapons which would put the entire region in jeopardy, and could be used against the Opposition by Tehran's proxy terrorists in Lebanon. Let the IDF zoom in, blow the stockpiles sky high with advanced notice to the Syrian Opposition. No one gets hurt and a future catastrophe is averted.
4. one drop of chemical WMD on Israel from HEZ is atomic WW3
JEWISH DOCTOR ,   AMERICA THE BEAUTIUL   (01.17.12)
any WMD thrown from HEZ is a 100% guarantee of nuclear war retaliation on mass scale...kiss LEB good-bye...a radio active ash. If I were HEZ I would not permit any WMD from Syria entering LEB... why sow the seeds of their own PERMANENT destruction...they can't be that stupid... I take that back...they are that stupid.
5. Syria isn't the only one facing bankruptcy. Egypt too.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.17.12)
Egypt too is rapidly running down its foreign currency reserves. Remittances from Egyptian workers abroad are down. Tourism is down. Meanwhile, food prices are up, as is currency flight. Many expect those reserves to be depleted within months. Egypt and Syria are the closest to collapse, but if one considers Turkey's high growth funded by cheap credit, its falling currency and equities market, and its serious trade imbalance, they too are facing economic trouble. The only country in the region that's financially healthy is ... Israel.
6. Syria is not Yemen
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (01.17.12)
The tribal structure in Yemen is much more dominant than in Syria and while in Yemen already every boy carries a weapon, in Syria the state somewhat reserved a monopoly on weapons. This makes it much easier for Assad and his clique to retain power. As there is nobody who would be willing to go into Syria and throw Assad out, Assad has good chances to stay in power for quite a while. I mean, Assad admitted the Arab committee to observe the situation and he didn't give a **** on them. In the mean time, Russia shipped ammunition to Syria and I have understood this very clear, as that we have reached a total deadlock in the current ME-Conflict. While Iran is continuing to work on its nuclear program, it is expected to present some explanations by the end of January. Iran will try to win time and we don't know if Iran isn't running another hidden enrichment facility, we still don't know anything about. Obama clearly is imposing pressure on Israel not to strike, but in fact, he offers no alternative. After he left Iraq without need, which already now proofs to be a mistake, he tries to glue together an Arab-U.S. alliance and the Arabs demand a price. Even though, forming this alliance would be beneficial form the Arabs, they find it attractive to demand as much as they can. Weighting the values, Obama finds it easy to trade the big Arab countries for Israels interests. I have no other explanation. Obama doesn't seem to be willing to raise the stakes. What if he really pulled out of Arab lands? In the moment, where he would make clear, that he seriously considers this action, the kings and sheiks and the Europeans would openly beg him to come to their aid, without demanding him to pressure Israel for Judea and Samaria or so. But this is not Obama's intention. I am not the only one, who cannot hear the word "unshakable" any more. In the mean time, we will receive the more disturbing news from Egypt and from Gaza and even though IDF is already preparing to go into Gaza, what will Obama say, once they go in? The telephone lines between Arab and EU capitals and Washington will incandescence. And the Syrian WMDs? They will stay under Assad's control and will calmly wait for the day, that they will be used against Israel. Or is there any other aim for this weapons? Israel better prepares its peoples for this case.
7. A VERY VERY BAD IDEA
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (01.17.12)
Syria ever contemplating the use of chemical weapons is a very bad prospect for all concerned. Damascus would be reduced to a ruinous heap and removed from being a city.
8. Israel concerned?
Mark Van Hoff ,   Belgium   (01.17.12)
Best news I heard all day...
9. Assad should have used the money to make himself loved
zionist forever   (01.17.12)
This didn't start out as a desire for democracy in Syria it was about jobs but gradually as Assad became more and more oppressive and killing people it turned personal. If the idiot has money to waste killing people he could have spent that money on a Roosevelt style jobs program. Syria has a planned economy so it would be easy for the state to spend as much as it likes and doesn't have to worry about how its going to effect the country or how will the voters feel. An artificial jobs program and called it a gift from the president himself to the Syrian people because it pains him to see any Syrians without jobs. If he had done that the people would have idolized his future would be secure in Syria and the west would have looked at him as the great reformer and doing anything they could to help Syria,

zionist forever   (01.17.12)
Assad isn't interested in winning the next war. If Assad goes to war with Israel now it will be because he wants to make a last ditch effort at survival by trying to make himself a hero of the arab people by taking on Israel. In this case the more Syrians killed the better because it focusses all theSyrian anger onto Israel, Assad will mobilize the reserves alot of whom are protesting and put them in the front lines. Assad hasn't shown a very good grasp of tactics so far and if he thinks it will help with his survival Assad may use WMDS without thinking about the consequences. Cant assume we are dealing with a man who will make logical decisions so prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
11. WMD got to have but they are there own problem
John Phee ,   Sydney, AUSTRALIA   (01.17.12)
Nice to have WMD but then there is the danger of a rogue element getting one using it. Remember the Katushas from Lebanon fired by rogue elements. Just think of the consequences if one was a chemical or biological weapon. They fire one Israel fires 1000. WMD are like cars nice to have but they are a problem & a cost.
12. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.17.12)
You have it exactly backwards. Israel is surrounded by countries that are sworn to the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jewish people. Moreover, all six of Israel's major wars were STARTED by the Arabs, and won by Israel. Israel has also had to endure seven decades of unremitting ersatz "Palestinian" terror. Israel is here to stay. It doesn't really matter to us what happens to Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan or, for that matter, Iran. But you may rest assured that any future Arab-Israeli conflict will have the same outcome as the previous six. And concerns about collateral damage to Arab civilians will not be a pressing concern.
13. To: No. 12
Ken ,   Burma at peace   (01.17.12)
Living in America I doubt it would mean much to you, but in Israel its takings its toll on the children you seem to think so little of.

peter vojta ,   prague   (01.18.12)

19. #2..You are still anti-Israel & you never speak any truth
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (07.15.12)
" Israel is the land of war ", and Israel "never wanted peace". You have got it completely backwards and you are definitely not a truthful person.
20. #2..You are the one that is crying with hatred at Israel
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (07.15.12)

22. Syrian biological weapons
Thomas Wells ,   Nebraska USA   (01.28.13)
If Assad, or whoever gets them next; releases contagious biological agents like smallpox, plague, modified ebola, modified influenza, etc, they can spread and cause worldwide epidemics-"Germs Without Borders". Putting a cork in these test tubes would be a nice thing to do.
