1. i don't get what the justification for this thing about
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.20.12)
women is. Could someone give me a proper answer (Tell me what Torah passages and Talmudic this and that the rabbim are citing to justify this)? Not a rant against the kharedim, mind you, but a simple and calm "why?".
2. #1 to keep focused while praying
Ben ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.20.12)
3. answer for #1 & # 2
yitzchak ,   Pittsburgh USA   (01.20.12)
#1 no justification what so ever only Muslims do that not Jewish faith, in any place in the torah there is nothing says we should act like Muslims faith #2 if you diden't focused on praying yet you will never will try to respect the book you holding and focus on the holiness of it not YOUR THOUGHTS & interpretations of your fanatic community praying REAL PRAYING mean nothing but nothing in the universe disturb you i have seing Great rabbi talking word of wisdom while 1000 children yeal and shout i have seing one yong man learning and teaching tania while in the middel of the street in TORONTO so go go read till all the world disappear and only hashm is in your thought and mind then you are truly focusing on reading torah, and your prayer will be answer - try it , shabat shalom and all the best
4. #1 asks the rabbi, they won't answer lol.
Raymond Brokosvhi ,   New York, USA   (01.20.12)
Where do you think the arabs gets their traditions and culture like that ? Stoning, Jihad (fighting unbeliever), Polygamy, Sex segregation, marrying 12 years old. Come on, does it even matter what talmud / torah verse they use ? Lol.
5. how is God supposed to remember them...
Jew ,   Israel   (01.20.12)
If God is not even allowed to see her face....
6. your prayers will be answered...#3
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (01.20.12)
If someone's prayers aren't answered, the excuse for that is that that person is not truly focusing on reading the torah. No matter how hard anyone prays for peace and gets nowhere fast, the disclaimer is that he (or heaven forbid she) isn't praying hard enough (and never will). It's a no-win situation. That's the futility of prayer. Just do good deeds - at least that is something concrete and beneficial.
7. Respect
Abu Yussef al Yahudi ,   Bue_Aires_Argentina   (01.20.12)
As a Jew, I´m ashamed for this disgusting fact, IMHO It´s a total and disturbing LACK of RESPECT the blurring of the face of this poor woman killed by the merciless terrorists And don´t tell me anything about Halacha or so. NOWHERE in the Torah is written regarding the "Blurring" or "Deleting" the faces of the Jewish Women. WELCOME TO THE NEW TALIBAN COUNTRY- The new HAREDI STATE OF ISRAEL. Shabath Shalom to all
8. #4 - That looks suspiciously like a rant and not an answer
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.20.12)
to the question I asked. I do not care about conjecture on the origins of certain practices in other cultures. I am wondering what reason rabbim give their students for this sort of thing and what writings they cite.
9. Disgusting results of lack of Derekh Eretz
Aurora Aronsson ,   Göteborg, SVE   (01.20.12)
all in the name of chumrah. There's NO TORAH WITHOUT DEREKH ERETS! Those desecrators of Hashem's Name who did it, erased her face after the terrorists erased her life. As Our Holy Torah teaches: "Those who forbid what's allowed (looking at the picture of a Jewish Martir in honour of her memory) will allow what's forbidden (hurting Jews who are offended by such goyishe - muslim, Taliban-like - practices)". They will be also responsible of a MAJOR chillul Hashem that is pushing away people from Torah by making it seem crazy!
10. its there right
ilani ,   ramat gan   (01.21.12)
i dont agree with it, but i can understand it. they dont want to incite temptation, those men are always studying, along with other men. its in our nature to seek out the other sex, they've devoted their lives to studying the torah, at the expence of other basic needs. last thing they need is masterbaiting students/ rabbi (no offence) did you know statisticly, beni barak had the majority of computers viewing adult sites in israel( again, im not out to insult or degrade anyone) it just shows human nature, people want what is forbiden, or they cannot have. the censering i guess is ment for their own good, and just like you have the right to judge what is good for your children, i guess they have that right too
11. Middle Ages
PaulZion ,   Israel   (01.21.12)
All this fuss about the repression of women and their segregation, is disgusting. However, if you take that phenomenon, and add to it the Halacha ruling of a Bnei Brak rabbi, that religious people who live in apartment block cannot open taps in their house on Shabbat, because maybe, JUST MAYBE, an electric pump will work, the you begin to understand that these fanatics want to go back to the middle ages. I, say, indulge them. Cut off their electricity, disconnect their sewers, cut their neighborhoods off from the bus routes, and switch off the central heating in their homes. I am sure their lives will be bliss. So will ours.
12. To #1,2 -Shulchan Aruch
PaulZion ,   Israel   (01.21.12)
The Shulchan Aruch ( translated " Set Table") is where these fanatics get their ideas. it is a book that was written, intended to clarify how to live a righteous Jewish life in the modern world and in the diaspora. It is not Torah or Talmud, it is an interpretation of passages from the torah by mere mortal Human beings, regarding how to live your life. It seems that they compete with one another to be the most extreme, thinking that that makes them more religious and respected. The thinking behind it is that if you build a "fence" around the core commandment, then you ensure that you observe it. 3 problems with that, today: 1. The world is far more advanced today, and concepts unheard of then, when it was written, like feminism and rights for women, now exist and are an integral part of our lives. 2. It was meant for living in a Gentile world. Today we are in Israel and therefore, its relevance is brought into question. 3. They have built so many fences around these commandments, that they have lost all sense of the meaning, spirit and the intent of the commandment in the first place. They are nothing more than Jewish Ayatollahs. Shame on them.
13. Yeshivah buhers not trusted to NOT think about sex
Michal ,   Tel Aviv   (01.21.12)
when looking at a picture of married murdered woman??? What - now the haredim are both adulterous and necrophiles? Too sick. This "haredi" insanity is making Israel the laughing stock of the world!
14. PaulZ_-_- , writer for "der sturmer"
moshe ,   Tivon, Israel   (01.21.12)
PaulZ_-_- , Israel Your idea to do "dafka" to the hareidim wtih regard to their interpretation of Halacha is good copy for "der strurmer"... That time is over. I am NOT a good religious Jew, though I know that Halacha based on the Torah has evolved. Today Jews , (even hareidi) don't ( can't ?) stone other Jews for what the hareidim perceive as "sins". I view the hareidim and the relationships between religious Jews and "secular" Jews as a difficult problem. Tread lightly, don't create schisms between different Jewish communities! I thought that only a Jew-hater could spew out your type of Talkback. We should treat the hareidim and the rest of the religious community with RESPECT. For no other reason than the 1,000 year, constant determination, to return home to Israel. Will your "contribution" (as seen in your Talkback ) extend the life of Israel another 1,000 years ? ? WILL IT ? ? moshe
15. Photo blurred because of modesty?
Rachel   (01.21.12)
What is immoral about showing a woman's face? That's nutty, and if their really sorry they should correct it by publishing the same photo of the family only this time showing the mother's face.
16. #14 Respect works both ways
PaulZion ,   Israel   (01.21.12)
Your talkback shows just how little you understand the Haredi community. Give them a finger and they will demand the whole hand. give them a hand and they will demand an arm. If they did not have as much political clout because of the warped electoral system in the country, we would have nothing of this. RESPECT, you say? How about them showing some respect for a change - instead of insulting a FEMALE SOLDIER on a bus, or a mother and her child - who happen to be religious, too. If you want respect, SHOW RESPECT - and they do not. CONTRIBUTION? What have they contributed to the defence of the country, or to the GNP, or even towards the provision of public facilities, by paying income tax? NOTHING! But they do know how to spend taxes, for their yeshivot, don't they? If they continue to multiply and do not participate in the work force, or the army, the burden upon US will increase twofold. THAT most certainly will not extend the life of Israel. The sects that drain our resources and exploit our taxes, while remaining ANTI-ZIONIST and who enter into dialogue and co-operate with our enemies, most certainly will not extend the life of Israel's existence. Therefore, get a perspective, and think what kind of character YOU want the country you live in and what legacy you want to leave your children here. I do not want my children to leave Israel because these fanatics make our secular life intolerable.
