Heroes are heroes for many reasons. He affirmed his Judaism in the midst of the worst conditions and fear, and by doing so, showed solidarity for all of us who are still alive and still making sacrifices for eretz Yisroel. We don't always know why we should remain Jewish, and probably neither did he, but he knew it was important. That is a hero.

Just because a man decides to walk in harms way, does not make him a "HERO". Speaking of wants, I want to see you make ALIYAH, and come live with us, we who face daily the chance of being abducted by our enemies. Is it possible that he did not fully take into consideration the dangers involved, and the hardship imposed on his family ? Just to write one more article to be read and discarded about our enemies, or perhaps in pursuit of a literary prize for his writings.

The mercenary "journalist" Meotti is up to his old tricks again of Jewish victim worship. With all due respect to the Pearl family, Daniel was at best extremely naive and at worst recklessly foolish. His death was predictable given the circumstances. How could a father and husband voluntarily place himself in such an insanely high risk position? Was it blind ambition to get his name on the WSJ byline that drove him to deliberately put his head in the lion's mouth? He was "western" - major factor risk; he was American - major risk factor; he was Jewish - yet another major risk factor. It's like racing a Formula 1 car blind. Why seek a known terrorist in hostile territory that was sought by the police..an activity that could be even illegal? Although his killers didnt act like humans, he's no hero in my book. Perhaps Mr. Meotti could do a better job of remebering this horrible murder with better balance and perspective deserving of a journalist and not a cheap propagandist.

If it serves no other purpose, Daniel Pearl's brutal murder should serve as a lesson to Jews who think that by proclaiming themselves to be "at home in the world" or "citizens of the world" that they are somehow immune from Jew-hatred. Did Daniel Pearl have any active connection to his Judaism before he read those last words at knifepoint? How could any self-aware Jew travel to a place like Pakistan in search of a newspaper story on Al-Qaeda and expect not to be sniffed out as a Jew? He was a tragic victim of a horrific crime, and he died for being Jewish, but I would hesitate to call him a hero.

What a waste of a life. Danny should have reaffirmed his committment to the jewish people by marrying a jewish girl and having a jewish child. Why is that so hard. Be a simple Jew, live a Jewish life. Have committment to the Jewish people. Danny appears to have been a very bright adventuresome young man who because of his lack of Jewish identity put himself in a position in Pakistan dealing with Islamic terrorists were overjoyed to murder the Jew Pearl. Heroes are those people who put their lives on the line for the Jewish people. They serve in the army, they live in Judea and Samaria, they live in israel. They and only they are Jewish heroes.

Commitment to judaism is commitment for peace. Living at Judea and Samaria isnt heroic . We should prefer enlightened people, living where ever they can contribute to humanity, like Daniel.

You know nothing about my life ( I spend 6 months every year in Israel, and I am very familiar with the dangers you are talking about) and you know obviousy very little about Pearl's life. But you are ready to jump to fast conclusions and judgements. That is all I will respond to your talkback.

What does his wife have to do with how Daniel defined himself? Leave the box behind and start thinking like a human being. And regarding the child, don't you think that at one point he will choose to define himself without your "help"? It is called growing up into a persona for himself, which is the full right of everyone. Who are you to deny this from a grieving family, or the dignity of the fallen . In fact, Daniel had more integrity and Jewishness that you will ever have.
