steve ,   usa   (01.27.12)
70 years later. how sincere! they offer it while they do everything ok to damage or destroy Israel with their NGO's, boycotts, etc
2. When will the State Of Israel appologize
ben   (01.27.12)
for their denial of the Armenian Genocide. Will there ever be compensation to the Armenian's who were murdered and land and houses were stolen. Probably not as long as the State of Israel continues to deny the Armenian Genocide
3. Hard to understand because, today, of
RobertHaymond ,   Israel/Canada   (01.27.12)
all the countries in Europe, Norway has become one of the most hateful towards the State of Israel and anti-semitic to boot. Perhaps the country is very split. Does anyone have an informed opinion?
4. Interesting - must be the reason they support Pallys 100%
William ,   Israel   (01.27.12)
Part of their internal guilt for war crimes but reluctance to admit it. I see that happening among many Europeans.
5. ben #2 wrong country
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.27.12)
We have never denied the Armenian Genocide, nor did we have anything at all to do with it. The United States and most democracies have not recognized it either, but somehow it is all our fault and that we somehow have denied it even happened? Get some mental health man. Try addressing the country that did it - TURKEY. We have absolutely nothing to do with it.
6. "Inappropriately late"? Come on professor.
Carl ,   USA   (01.27.12)
At least they now recognize their actions and are able to relate lessons to today's world. More countries need to recognize that the seething Arab hatred of Israel/zionim/Jews, which much of the world tacitly or directly endorses, is not much different from the circumstances leading to the Holocaust.
7. #2 You're scraping the barrel to take a dig..
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (01.27.12)
..at Israel. I strongly suggest you direct your ridiculous comment elsewhere..i.e. to Turkey.
8. This is absurd.
John ,   America   (01.27.12)
Norwegians were attacked by the Nazis and they resisted and fought them, dissenting Norwegians were persecuted under Nazi rule and some of them were even sent to the camps and killed! Now Norway is to blame for the actions of the Third Reich, because they were forced into it. If a man is forced into action under pain of death is he at fault, or is the one forcing him? And they were paid too! The gall they have to call this an "inappropriately late apology". The nerve of these people. As if these Jews were the only ones to suffer in the Holocaust, as if they were the only ones to suffer in the history of mankind.
9. Ah, Ben, ...wrong address, might wanna talk Turkey.
sifter   (01.27.12)
Talk to Turkey about that one. Turkey did the shooting and rampaging, not Israel. Hello?.....
10. Ben , Israel does NOT deny the Armenian genocide
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.27.12)
Why don't you ask this for the USA , Germany , Italy and all the other countries ?
11. What a great country this anti-semitic Norway!
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (01.27.12)
12. #2: Give your "gobbledigook" to Turkey; not to Israel
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (01.27.12)
13. #2 Ben
Ze'ev   (01.27.12)
Israel does recognize the Armenian genocide. However, you seem to be a tad confused. The Armenian genocide took place before the creation of Israel. The genocide was perpetraded by the Turks, and it is Turkey, not Israel, that denies the event. So either go complain to the Turks about it, or better yet, go open a History book.
14. The speech
Beary White ,   Norway   (01.27.12)
This was a pure must and a kind of tactic move. I think the PM personally ment his words, and politically he had to, after the latest 7months (!) debate and analyze around ABB (Anders Bering Breivik) and his grusome actions. With this speech he actually put ABB to the back and lifted holocost up front again as the worst tragedy that has happened in Norway. The history tells us that planning of rounding up the jews was done by the head of the state police in Norway, Knut Rød, and was effectively put through by norwegian policemen and nazis. And, sad to say, Knut Rød was never convicted by the norwegian court. and was buried as a free man. The tactic move;, the PM knows the words in this speech will be reported to Israel, and thereby he tries to soften up the image that Norway has created by its actions, to be one of the most anti-Israel state in western Europe..
15. #8 - Quisling was all too eager, good sir.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.27.12)
It's also not every day that 1/3 of a people are wiped out. Such things tend to leave an impression. Our family lost seven people alone (and an eighth claimed by grief several years later - my mother's father). Even after more than a half century there's still wounds left by it and still survivors. Unless your family has been through a similar event it unwise to level criticism as you could not understand such pain.
16. But thesedays Norway is helping Arabs indirectly for SHOA 2
Alan ,   SA   (01.27.12)
17. #8: read some solid history about Norway, WW II and then...
Rafi ,   US   (01.27.12)
... let's talk, In fact read this article, it's quite accurate. Some countries were full victims of and resisted Nazi occupation (USSR, Italy, Denmark), and some far less so... and their record is ambivalent at best (Austria, Baltic States, Hungary, Norway, France). A significant portion of Norwegians (but not all) were active Nazi sympathizers and collaborators.
18. pathetic
Jorge Stern ,   Mexico   (01.27.12)
if Norway wants to deal with their past, thats fine----but to support Palestinians in their struggle to annilihate Israel is unnaceptable vvia Israel
19. #2 - Israel actually NEVER denied the Armenian genocide
William ,   Israel   (01.27.12)
Israel just didn't actively acknowledge it. Until recently, neither did 99% of the other countries but that seems ok with you (again - your racist bias shows through, Ben). And the Holocaust was a larger, systematic incident than the Armenian genocide and a country (Norway) which was known to have taken part, denied their guilt until recently. Norway sounds more like Turkey, and whether other countries acknowledge the genocide or not won't make a difference in the perpetrators actually making the apology.
20. John - No. 8
Faith ,   Israel   (01.27.12)
Your knowledge of the history of WWII and the Holocaust is a bit shaky. I guess the books you read didn't have the bit about lots of Norwegians who were loyal Nazis? So according to you, they were forced to become Nazis? As for the Jews being the only ones who suffered in the Holocaust, well quite frankly John, many did suffer, but the only ones who were systematically designated for total annihilation were the Jews. And as for us being the only ones to suffer in the history of mankind - that statement is too stupid to address. You know very well that you are venting your hatred and are doing so on an Israeli news site too. How pathetic.
21. TO # 2 BEN
David ,   herzlia Israel   (01.27.12)
I think you are completely confused or simply ignorant, the Armenian Genocide was commited by TURKEY.
22. 70 years too late,hypocricy at it's best
Lyn McLean ,   UK   (01.28.12)
First they finance encourage and promote palestinians and muslims to destroy Israel, then they come with this stinking mealy apology, they should stick this apology up their a$%^S.......
23. Norway heading for much more trouble......
who cares   (01.28.12)
I think Norway is heading for much more desaster......That comes from pathological jew hatred like that of quite some members of the ruling norvegian socialist party plus from making friends with mass murderers like Abbas ( Abu Mazen/munich massacre) and terrorist organisations like the PLO. and supporting them in every posssible way....Buckle up, Norway - ''He who curses Israel will be cursed!''
24. NOT INDIRECTLY, they are main supporters of Palestinians
Jorge   (01.28.12)
In Europe, they are in the forefront of delegitimizing Israel as a Jewish homeland, they support those openly stating that their aim is to destroy Israel; with money, logistics and political support, in other words, they are still supporting the same aims that in its time, Nazi Germany had
25. #2 Ben,Why should Israel apologize
Jorge   (01.28.12)
It was Turkey, doing the killing, as all antisemites, and anti Israelis, whatever happens, BLAME THE JEWS, anyway, most people will beleive it
26. Norway going to gasp for air soon
Arnold ,   Canada   (01.28.12)
Is is possible that Norway is finally being shocked by the fact the country is being overrun by Islamists. That the flag along with all the other Scandanavian "cross' flags will be replaced with crescents. Please Jews come back home to help us with the muslim migrants who do not like to work and want to live off the wealth of the country.
27. John #8 love the propaganda
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.28.12)
Too bad reality has to come into play. The Norwegians formed a huge percentage of the foreigners in the SS. Today the Norwegian government pays those former SS soldiers a pension equal to that of those that fought the Nazis. I have to ask - why? Why would those that aiding enslaving their own country would be paid for it? Try reading some history, because you have no clue.
28. Ben #2
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (01.28.12)
I would like to introduce to you an Armenian musician - Agop Martayan. He was from Istanbul. During the 1910s including 1914-1915 he was a student at the prestigious American Umiversity Robert College in Istanbul. His parents were affluent Armenians. When he graduated he went to Italy to study music. When he came back to Newly established modern Turkey Mudtsfa Kemal (founder of Tirkey) asked him to compose the music to the Turkish national anthem. He assigned Mr. Martayan to a very high position at the Turkish Languge and History organization. It was Agop Martayan who suggested Mustafa Kemal ya be called Ataturk - father of Turks. While the Armenian forced exile was happening in the east of Turkey around 1915 Armenians in Istanbul and Izmir were prospering and respected by Turks. The case for an Armenian genocide is not that clear and certain. As much as I hate the AKP government In Turkey and I feel great sympathy for the suffering of the Armenians, I believe that there is much more to study before coming to a conclusion on this matter.
29. #8 john if i may add to...
mark ,   usa   (01.28.12)
100% right on the money in your reply, and i'll add to boot when making these types of admissions, which are different then seeking forgiveness (since many fail to see the difference between the two) part of the process is accepting whatever the victims have to say, even if the response is as in this case is characterized as, "inappropriately late". Those that see only the world through their narrow hatred, will never be savvy enough to understand the appropriateness of this responce.
30. #2 You are right, but totally irrelevant!
(01.28.12)
because Israel and Israelis did NOT participated in the Armenian Genocide, while Norway did participate in the Jewish Holocaust. On the same line, at the time a number of Armenians who managed to escape the Turkish atrocity found refuge in Israel, and they still have a vibrant, sheltered and free life here. This was hardly the situation in Norway. Even today, Jews in Norway are exposed to the hared, racism and attacks from the Norwegian Neo-Nazis, the Communists and Socialists and the increasing Nirwegian-Muslim population which not only brought with it hatred and racism of its own, but it combined it with the still-living Quisling spirit still present in Norways soul today. Israel should recognize the Turkish Armenian Genocide, but owes no apology on the subject, to anybody.
