Well, illegal construction -- done without official building permits and professionally-done sewer, gas and electrical connections -- can cause a great deal more human suffering if the building collapses, killing its occupants, or there is a gas leak, a faulty electrical connection or a badly constructed sewer line fouls fresh water. Then, a lot more people will suffer. There is a reason why construction permits must be issued, and Arabs are not exempt from the requirement. They only THINK they are. That said -- on the subject of "extensive human suffering," why doesn't the United Nations focus on North Korea? Iran? Syria? To name but a few. With each passing day, the United Nations becomes more of a laughingstock.

The UN talking on human suffering... is going to sleep in fortified rooms in Sderot considered human suffering? I think that the UN forgot what is human suffering a long time ago, but, since it has to give the appearance of doing something they look for anything. If it was really important the human suffering, they will find it in Syria, in Paquistan ,in Iraq, in Nigeria, Somalia, etc. etc. etc...But I believe that when the word Israel appears in any report it makes the UN look serious. Sending a criminal to prison is also imposing suffering. Deporting illegals causes suffering. The question should be is that suffering fair? If you break the law, you will have suffering caused to you. Why aren't they bringing this up?

I once built, without a building permit, a small structure behind my residence. I was forced to demolish it. I also know someone in Soviet Russia (or was it Communist China) who built without a permit. He is still in jail. I guess he was lucky........firing squad would have been much worse. Moral: If you want to build without a permit go to Israel. You have a 50-50 chance of getting away with it, pay a $100 fine or getting reimbursed for your efforts.

Your comments would have credibitily if the laws both in Israel and in the occupied territories allowed Palestinians to obtain permits and accepted the proof of ownership that was used before 1967.

The Arabs will say almost anything to blast Israel in the eyes of the world forums. Assuming they are right, and Israel wont give them permits, hows about Israel proving once and for all its procedures, and take away their specious arguments. I am sure, Israel gave them ample warning beforehand..of the pending demolitons..but, as with the perfidy involving the 10 month "freeze" on building, dismissed by Abbas, the Arabs choose their fight carefully, knowing Israel is tired.
