I found out that most of the money collected goes to very high salaries of the Jewish Federation employees, who are paid well above any other company with the same position. While the Federation is calling around to "help Israel" about 5% of the collected money actually comes to Israel. In other words, it is a scam and until the salaries are brought down to a reasonable level and the exact details of the split up of money, I would not work for free for them! As it is, when I made Aliyah from USA (did it here in Israel) I couldn't get any help, not a shekel. The Federation let me live in the streets and didn't blink an eye. Screw the Jewish Federation!

agenda and have had one from day one They are quite old school and as the recession has made many Jews in North America poorer, they have to work much harder to mooch those funds. #1 is right. They pay themselves very very well. From my perspective they dont do very much so I dont support them. I do support Jewish schools and I do buy kosher food. Buying kosher food helps Jewish people support themselves. Helping another Jew make a living for himself is the greatest charity you can give.
