In the first place, no one said that this lady's family was particularly observant. Also, name combinations including the name María are extremely frequent among female Argentinians of any faith. In particular, María Esther and Ana María are two combinations often used by Argentinian Jews.

The name in spanish has nothing to do for I am sure she has an Hebrew name like she does. Living Argentina to go to Israel at age 97 is to have guts and an open predisposition, after all the place to be for a jew is Eretz Israel (you may ask what I am doing in the USA) well, warranty you that I will not wait till 97 to be in Israel.
