5. To: #3
Ibrahim Ibn Yusuf ,   Rosario, Argentina   (01.31.12)
In the first place, no one said that this lady's family was particularly observant. Also, name combinations including the name María are extremely frequent among female Argentinians of any faith. In particular, María Esther and Ana María are two combinations often used by Argentinian Jews.

Who cares not that it is any of our business? I wish her well, I could care less about her money. Do you work for the IRS or are you just looking for a rich wife?
7. Bienvenida!!!

elzeide ,   Buenos Aires   (02.01.12)
Many times there is a "Spanish" name like Maria, and also an "idish" name, many times it's Menie (as was my mother). Que tenga una hatzlaja facil y con alegrias !
14. Maria y la mar en coche
Nechama ,   USA   (02.01.12)
The name in spanish has nothing to do for I am sure she has an Hebrew name like she does. Living Argentina to go to Israel at age 97 is to have guts and an open predisposition, after all the place to be for a jew is Eretz Israel (you may ask what I am doing in the USA) well, warranty you that I will not wait till 97 to be in Israel. I hope this brave lady set a sample to many. Welcome to the hood, Savta!
15. What's in a name?
South American Jew ,   Israel   (02.01.12)
...it amazes me how silly Ashkenazi English speaking TBers are being here. People: Maria=Miriam just like Mary=Miriam no great mystery there. Or perhaps like so many American Jews who have completely secular goyishe names she has a different Hebrew name. I would love to have one of you playing with names here explain to me how it is that countless German names like: Herzberg, Goldberg, and Tannebaum are considered normative Jewish names by the likes of you but Henriquez, Perez, Turgeman are not. Please do get over your Ashkenazi-centric English speaking selves!
16. Maria is a derivative or Miriam.
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.01.12)
As such, it's a perfectly legitimate name for any female Jewish baby. Just because gentiles stole the name and changed the sound doesn't make its origins any less Hebraic.
17. What a wise move: it'll look good on her resume, but at the
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.01.12)
same time she won't have to suffer too many years in this lovely dump of a country (in the good sense of the word) of ours! Bravissimo Maria !!

19. Maria
haim ,   lelystad netherland   (02.01.12)
Maria comes from hebrew > Miryam Jesus> Yehoshua etcetera.. warm greetings Haim
20. A person with name Maria may be assumed to be a Christian
Mark   (02.01.12)
I have Jewish in-law (non observant) born in Latin America who feels embarrassed that Jews will look down on her because her parents gave her the Catholic name Maria. That was the point I wanted to clarify. Thank you to you who answered my question

Your comment is anti-Christian which is a crime in certain countries. Keep your big mouth shut!
