31. #30 do you know what Racism is?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.03.12)
If you were to suggest the same thing in California, where you claim to live, with, say, the Mexican population, that would be ILLEGAL. And people would call you a RACIST. Your state is not allowed to deny social services to Spanish-speaking population unless they assimilate and learn English. You can't say "Let the Spanish stay in their barrios where the English speakers won't be disturbed by there presence" or SEND THEM BACK TO MEXICO.

you obviously have no understanding of the haredim problem. Its ridiculous to compare them to Hispanics in America or whatever. If you want to give advise come and find out what these people are really like. They exploit the rest of society and create problems in all sorts of ways. It has nothing to do with racism. We are the only ones prepared to call a spade a spade.
33. #31 get real
(02.04.12)
Haredim are not comparable to Hispanics in America. This is not about racism. You have no understanding of the existential problem haredim represent for Israel. Come and live in Israel or keep your American attitudes to yourself.
34. #28 Haredim arrived first
skeptic   (02.04.12)
Haredim have been here for centuries living in peace with the Arabs before you arrived. Zionists created the situation Israel is in today.

There is a big difference between ratings and reality. The reality in Israel is that a small percentage of the parliament forces its ideas & laws on the majority by threatening to leave the coalition. This then becomes a case of the tail wagging the dog. When individual members of parliament are elected by themselves they have a need to serve the public who elected them not just their party. I do not know the basis of the ratings on democracy that you quote, but one person one vote is the only true basis for democracy.

And in 20 years they will be the majority. Ha Ha.
37. The Challenge of Haredim
R Lee Smith ,   Aventura Florida USA   (02.08.12)
As ugly as things are, as a North American Jew, in a way I am glad this is coming to a head. For decades Israelis, including unfortunately many liberal Israelis, considered the treatment of women in Israel as "an American problem" since often it was visiting American Jews from the Conservativce and Reform movement who would be the object of Haredi and general Orthodox rebuke -- sometimes quite physical. The Israeli answer -- may aliyah and then you can try to change things. Well now we see things are much more general and hopefully finally a truly pluralistic Judaism will come into play, hopefully before irreversible destruction of ties by American Judaism and Israel (God forbid)
