31. So, what do you suggest ?
Pipe Smoker ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.05.12)
Do not bomb Iran nuclear installations !! There is time for diplomacy and sanctions !!! Wait for Iran to test their first nuke on Tel Aviv then act. Fools !!! They don't understand the mullahs are no diplomats. They will get the bomb to use it right away. The time has come now, tomorrow it will be too late...

R ,   Israel   (02.05.12)
You need to catch up on your reading. 75% of money received from the US is invested back into the US economy in terms of defence purchases from US corporations. Otherwise Israel would develop its own defensive weapons which would then compete with the US ones, or buy from other countries. In addition, Israel track record on returning the loans is top level. Google it.
33. Learning from Hitler
daniela ,   panama   (02.05.12)
It seems the world has not learned from history... but Ahmadinjead learned from history and from the ¨Chamberlains¨that the west is easily appeased. Then one day.. when it is too late the west wakes up to a big war..History comes back to hunt who did not learn from it.. we are back to the same point.
34. How about US past indifference to opponents of Ahmadinejad?
Joe ,   Canada   (02.05.12)
When Iranians were protesting the fraudulent reelection of Ahmadinejad & getting jailed, tortured & killed in the streets & in jails, the US administration did not support them. Instead it was trying the nonsensical diplomatic approach of a democracy believing it can negociate in good faith with a fanatic dictatorship. How the public opinion in Iran might evolve after a strike on the nuclear program sites cannot have any comparable weight to the tremendous risk of letting Iran getting in possession of nuclear weapons a possibility which is soon becoming a certainty given the inefectiveness of the sanctions. At every important turn of events there are always a number of pundits to make the wrong evaluation of the situation & promoting those tracks with potentially the worst outcomes. They are usually the "kickers in the can down the road" which populate the ranks of politicians in search for easy self preservation solutions rather than facing the hard facts.
35. Strike the New York Times instead
Steve from Raleigh   (02.05.12)
Especially Tom Friedman and Sy Hersh.
36. #19 Obama will win by a landslide
GZLives   (02.05.12)
Romney is Gordon Gello from Wall Street and the vast majority of Americans will welcome sticking it to him ....
37. Let's bring the temperatures down
Jess ,   NY, USA   (02.05.12)
I really think Israelis are fools, they have leaders that scare them to death and they follow them like sheeps. The idea that Iran is building a nuclear weapon and attacking Israel with it is such a nonsense it is laughable. A war with Iran will bring massive destruction to Israel. How about letting the US to come with a compromise with Iran and stop controlling US government so overtly?
38. NYT
agokoy ,   cebu   (02.05.12)
What cave have they been germinating in? So frighteningly out of touch. The sad thing though, is that there are legions who mindlessly believe them.
39. Response to#1
John R ,   NYC USA   (02.05.12)
Did you read the NYT editorial? The best case scenario per Israel's own intelligence services is that a bombing campaign will delay Iran by no more than 2 years in obtaining a bomb. The downside is that Iran will sponsor enough terrorist attacks on the US and Israel to exact revenge, it will threaten international shipping in the Straits of Hormuz jacking up the price of oil to at least $150 a barrel and it will marginalize the opposition groups in Iran. If Americans are killed as a result , is that a fair trade? If the average American hates Israel because of the havoc they caused , is that a fair trade? If the spike in the cost of oil stifles our recovery, is that a fair trade? If the international campaign sponsoring sanctions falls apart as a result of the bombing, is that a fair trade? How your logic about saving America and its economy comports with anything remotely realistic, I have no idea and I doubt anyone does either.
40. Israel
SpaceAce ,   USA   (02.05.12)
We must stand with our Israeli brothers..No matter what..Know this, if Iran had the capabilities, they would drop so many nukes on America..Help Israel stop them NOW, not later...
41. WHAT RIGHT
Brant ,   Hilton Head USA   (02.05.12)
What right, other than the right to write what it wants, does the NYT have to instruct any country on what to do regarding its own national security. This is arrogance of the most exquisite kind, balanced only by a hubris unmatched in the ((so called) journalistic world of today.
42. The N.Y. Times ... we all know
Joe ,   Newtown USA   (02.05.12)
how one sided it is... Iran is preparing for an ideological -religious confrontation with the western culture not only with Israel . So it is the world's problem to protect itself. and a good leader will see ahead and act to secure his people. If a nuke will hit Washington D.C. we probably would not be able to tell the President " We warned you of this..." as there will be no one there alive to listen.
43. The N.Y.TIMES,...Diplomatic Solutions... Postponed sanctions
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (02.05.12)
Anti Israel garbage by Obama, Hillary and Panetta.
44. A few questions to the NYTimes editor
Miguel Katz ,   Buenos Aires   (02.05.12)
Which is the better option? ¿An iranian nuclear bomb in 2012 or in 2015? Iran has spent 50 billion dollars in its nuclear program ¿Do you think they will give up and abandon the construction of a bomb? Since 1961 Cuba suffers crippling sanctions but the US failed to overthrow its regime. Do you think Iran regime is weaker than the cuban?
45. to Ynet
Jared ,   Stillwater USA   (02.05.12)
It is sickening how you filter “talkbacks” comments in order to mislead the average reader.
46. #6 erebus - Never Again
solomon ,   bklyn   (02.05.12)
The correct phrase is Never Again. "Not again" is only a fantasy as the US was not pushed into attacking Iran, not by Israel, not by AIPAC, but by George W. "Their war" however IS a correct phrase; except "their war" speaks of the war the arabs have been waging against the Jews for centuries. You can have your own opinion. You can't have your own facts. Go back to sleep.
47. #6 you couldnt be more ignorant
oren ,   israel   (02.05.12)
to think that israel would attack iran to increase its land?? that has got to be the stupidest thing i have read in any talkback...that doesnt even make sense.. and america not as much threatened as israel by a nuclear iran but its definitely not in the american peoples interest
48. Iran
Mark ,   USA   (02.05.12)
If the Holocaust has taught the Jews and Israel anything, it is that we cannot put our security in the hands of anyone besides ourselves. Obama and the West willl do nothing besides sanctions. The only thing that sanctions hurt are the people of Iran. The Iranian regime will never give up what they feel is their right to nuclear weapons. The real problem is if they are allowed to get the bomb, they will put it into the hands of their proxies, Hizbullah and Hamas, and other such terrorist groups throughout the world. This is a scenario that the West should not tolerate, but sadly does not have the stomach to deal with decisively.
49. NYT
US_Exceptionalist ,   USA   (02.05.12)
This is the same paper that cautioned against bombing the rail lines to Auschwitz.
50. Israeli attack on Iran would aggravate situation
Endyr ,   USA   (02.05.12)
It's time they were aggravated after all the crack slurping Obama has done to them
51. NYT Op-Ed
DEB ,   Washington DC   (02.05.12)
Israel had better look after itself. You can't count on this US administration to have Israel's interests high on it's priorities list. What's first is Obama's re-election of course. Democrats will be just sensitive enough to solicit Jewish campaign contributions with a straight face. You certainly shouldn't pay any attention to the NYT drivel. In the targeting, don'.t limit it to enrichment facilities. Be sure to include the Bushehr Plant.
52. #23..Your facts are wrong regarding Kissinger
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (02.05.12)
You stated that ... " Kissinger was ready to use atomic bombs in 1973 ". I never heard that one.

And Jews still buy this rag!
54. #6:Yo, Erebus dude, you ve seen through us, Kikes!
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.05.12)
It is becominh harder'n harder for us , the World Jewry to hide our plans for World Domination! Tell-tale signs are all over the place. You seem to "get" it (slowly but surely...) Yes, first we placed Bush Jr. to prepare the ground for "our man" Obama and now it's show time brother! Soon you'll be working in a sweat-shops making goodies for The Jew and doing door to door delivery too! It took us over 2000 years, but you see: patience pays off. Don't forget we had to loose some "fat" on our way to the goal (about 6.000.000x130=780.000.000 pounds) of flesh but it was a small price to pay for WORLD DOMINATION !!!!!!
55. & nyt really cares about Israel, right? guess again.
rick ,   walnut creek   (02.05.12)
the nyt has been part of a corrosive campaign against Israel for years. the aim of this campaign is to enfeeble Israel and to deny her American support. the fools, morons, and enemies who write for nyt do not care if they are wrong. if events prove them wrong, it is not their puny lives that are at stake. in the unlikely event that they ever acknowledged error, they would shed a crocodile tear or two in another editorial and consign the error to oblivion. look at the despicable history of nyt coverage of the Shoa: a wan acknowledgement decades later that means absolutely nothing to the publisher, editors, or drone-writers.
56. Nr 1. Yes - time for Israel to be the Head -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (02.05.12)
-and not some tail. Amazing what kind of Imbecilles in this article. Such speculations can only come forward, when the chiefs of states are usefull idiots, sitting on their hands, when the Wolves are gathering for the kill. If they had done their job properly, speculations could only come forward afterwards at the most, if at all. Bod bless thee Sarah !. Arn.Sweden.
57. Thank you Mr. Chamberlain

60. Lemme get this straight...
