3. Yet our idiot-boy President won't admit "reach-out" blunder
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (02.06.12)
Obama witlessly gave Assad a green light for the current butchery by ignoring all advice and rewarding him by returning the US ambassador to Damascus despite Assad's murder of Lebanon's PM Hariri, despite Assad's massive rearming of Hezbollah with Iranian missiles in defaince of UNSC 1701, despite Syria's support for global terrorism - all so Obama could "reach out" to Assad. Exactly the way Jimmeh Cahtun reached out to Khomeni and threw the Shah under the bus, creating the current Iran mess. Yet, in watching his policy blow up in his face, our buffoon in the White House, as he flees the US embassy in Syria, still won't admit that returning the US ambassador in the first place was a blunder. Just like Carter still won't admit that his idiotic Ayatollah Khomeni "alliance" and the hostage crisis it triggered was a mistake.
4. That is total BS
Mr dumb guy ,   Australia   (02.06.12)

5. Syria can tell Hezbollah in Lebanon to launch 40,000 WMD's
Rivkah   (02.06.12)
into Israel, so the situation with Syria is somewhat different from Libya.
6. The voice of caution!
Tom ,   USA   (02.06.12)
Please don't get carried away emotionally by the bloody images presented by the Western press. Judging Assad moral stand is not the subject here. During the Libyan war NATO carefully censored every picture that potentially showed the civilians killed in the bombing raid. They made it look like "sterile" like a sanatorium. Ever since there is a 100% news-silence on Libya: no info seeping out, everything is sealed. The West, starting with Obamao, engaged in an obscure, undefined power scheme, consider Egypt's Mubarak, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, OIL, Sarko ... nobody knows what's the endgame apart from chaos. Maybe the Russians know more than we do -- very likely -- and want to stop Western madness. Finally: Human toll never plays a role in politics so use your mind instead of your heart.
7. Diplomacy without an embassy
Joe ,   Canada   (02.06.12)
Given the reluctance of the West to directly intervene in Syria & due to the obvious disregard of Assad for any concession, diplomacy will be succeeded by more covert or overt support for the fighters already helped by the Saudis to fight the ophtalmologist who is turning a blind eye on crimes against humanity committed on his own people. His actions & his alliance with Iran have made him a pariah even in most Arab countries.
8. Did they close down also the Iranian Embassy?? Needed
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (02.06.12)
9. @8 ermm....
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (02.06.12)
What do you mean by 'they'? The Syrians? Assad has no interest in closing down the Iranian ambassy, as you probably know, which leads me to believe, I fear, that you are talking about the US. It's almosts embarrassing that we need to disclose this commonly known piece of information to you, but there have been no official diplomatic contacts between the US and Iran since 1980, following the hostage crisis of '79, so there's no ambassy to close. How can you not know that?
10. for the record
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (02.06.12)
I'm fully aware of the fact that it's spelled 'embassy' instead of 'ambassy'. my misstake.
11. TO RIVKA AT 5

12. Only a year too late
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.07.12)
The US has done nothing whatsoever for the past year. Guess they don't think too much about Arab lives after all.
