ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.06.12)
they put, a sweet, soft, new-born baby in prison... for humane reasons.
2. insanity

Should the treatments prove successful and the woman gives birth, IPS regulation will allow her to raise the child until the age of two. A Social Services committee then convenes to decide whether custody of the child should be awarded to the immediate family, or should the child be made a ward of the State. " and then what? A child of two killers! - what a crock.
3. Is the IPS friggen out of their minds!!!

4. What do the taxpayers think....
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.06.12)
about these kind of expenses ,with their hard earned money?

You forgot only one thing. The Israeli taxpayer is going to fund fertility treatments. What, has the State of Israel run out of infertile couples desperate for a child? You know, couples who DO NOT happen to be cold-blooded killers? Does anyone recognize the message this sends? Conspire to kill someone, get sent to prison, and have the State pay for your fertility treatments.
6. Why
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.06.12)
bring a child into the world, who after the age of 2 years will not have the benefit of having his\her own natural parents around to love & raise him/her? This is insanity & most unfair to the child.
7. Sarah B, members of health plan are covered
Dan ,   Israel   (02.06.12)
No-one in Israel would even consider committing a crime in order to receive fertility treatment. Any member of any Israeli health plan is entitled to fertility treatments for two children.
8. In answer to Bartley's query, yes it is.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.06.12)
The IPS is, in BK's words, "friggen out of their minds". One needn't even refer to the rabbinic notion of one who is "compassionate to the cruel". This is simply insane. But this compassion for criminals should hardly surprise. After all, this is the same IPS that sponsors college educations to terrorists. Now, for a moment, imagine that the child suffers no ill effects from his two years of incarceration (unlikely). Subsequently raised by others, someday that child will learn that his mother and father were both murderers.
9. 5 Sara B If that is so ,it could be...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.06.12)
a real treat to the antisemitic foreign media.
10. That's the last straw
jeff ,   ranaana, israel   (02.06.12)
I'm sick of this country. Its run by crooks and people with twisted morals. The people are rude and taxes are high. Its a country that taxes honest citizens more than half of their money to pay convicted murderers to have a baby, a baby who will be raised in prison. I'm making yerida. Even with Obama, America is infinitely better than this depraved banana republic.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.06.12)
You've missed the point. First of all, why should two murderers in prison be allowed conjugal visits, let alone fertility treatments? Prison is not supposed to be a spa. Secondly, in vitro fertilization is not covered by Israeli health plans. Do you have any notion of what in vitro fertilization costs?
12. Israel is chelm...complete insanity

dan kaplan ,   usa   (02.06.12)
if this situation - conjugal visits between murderers, fertility treatments so as to allow a baby to be born in prison, letting the child be raised in prison/or trying to find adoptive parents for the child of two murderers - were not so tragically insane, one could find some sadistic black humor in it. even kafka would reject this as a story plot.
14. STUPID EVEN BEYOND BELIEF
disgusted ,   Tel Aviv   (02.06.12)
Our courts are out of their minds. The assasin of a Prime Minister marries and has a son (UGH) while serving a life sentence (here's where the death penalty should have been allowed again). And now 2 murderers met, were allowed to marry and now want to have a child. Have we all gone completely insane????? DISGUSTING.
15. Seriously, is this a real story or only satire?
PK ,   Asia   (02.06.12)

I have no idea; I am doing my level best to find out -- when I find out which judges allowed the marriage and consummation and which approved fertility treatments for two convicted killers, I will publish their names in a post.
18. Shalom Aleichem where are you? A new play script from Chelm.
Michael ,   California, USA   (02.07.12)
Only the meshugayim from the House of Mentally Insane in Chelm could think of this kind of a judgement. So now, in 2012 Israel, you, Shalom Aleychem, have a new play script to put down on paper (or your word processor.) I don't doubt Israeli judges will come up with more crazy judgments, just give them time.
19. Kafka?
Mari ,   TelAviv   (02.07.12)
"The Israel Prison Service (IPS) had granted a petition by two convicted killers, a man and a woman, and will fund their fertility treatments, Ynet learned Monday. The request was granted after a five-year legal battle by the couple. " Granted a petition.... the IPS? somebody should really put a stop to this insanity. Next the two murderers will send petitions to be set free? This is immoral. Why do these two NEED a child? They live in prison for G_d's sake. A child who is going to grow up in prison and then put in foster care? Human Rights should interfere- these two killers should get psychiatric treatment for even coming up with such a scheme- and send the IPS persons in charge of this case along..
20. Some Jewish idealists ignoring ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.08.12)
