Israel sorely needs to wean itself off sucking from the american teat . We are a nation which stands alone and Obama administration is no friend of Israel. Not really. Bibi needs to realize that the survival of Israel is is his hands .

The greatness of Israel in 47-67 was its ability to fight and build a country. Today Israel is weak, selfish and in dire need of some tough love. Today its a mess, with very two bit schnorrer whining and complaining 24/7 that someone didnt wipe their ass or something. You have a PM, a DM and a COS who cant do anything but shoot their mouths off 24/7. You are more worried about nothing than anything of worth. How many nations came to the rescue of European Jews ? When did any 'friend' of Israel ever swear to send troops to our aid ? Zero on both counts. As soon as the cost to America of Israel exceeds its value to America, they will assuredly leave us to our own devices. We just may have to nuke Iran to stop the next Holocaust. If our relationship was about what Israel could do for us we would have dropped you a long time ago. The attitude over her is left or right we support you guys. We have been involved with a few wars (one needless) which are expensive. I think its right to be a bit cautious; to exhaust alternatives; but, to be prepared if sanctions don't work. Its your country. You need to do what's right for you. But, it would be better if we did the heavy lifting here.

If Israel's burden becomes larger than this interest, Israel should watch out. The best thing for Israel long term isn’t nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons didn’t protect the USSR from imploding. Israel interest is to integrate itself in the region, but I guess hardcore rightist such as Netanyahu and Lieberman care less about that. Time will tell.

Unfortunately the closest thing we have to a "friend" is USA, non of the European countries ever helped us or lift a finger to protect us. America will not leave us alone at least in the short term, we should, never the less, prepare ourselves for this to happen.

Israel must integrate the Middle-East and stop to be a vessel of the american fleet. This is profoundly right. Israel can count numbers of arabo-berber/Sephardi/mizrahim Jews who can be a strong link between the two people/cultures whatever... Because we came originally from Middle-East, we need to find again our real middle-eastern identity (for the ones who lost it, not every Jews by the way). Then, we'll fix our problems between us: Arabs, Jews, Beduins, Druzes, Kurds, Turks etc... the way we have done all along the past centuries, but on the present new basis of the existence of a jewish state, Israel. It will take time, but there is no other way, or Israel will disappear.

just because the US did not help 40 years ago, doesnt mean the same today. Times change and the US after 9/11 has finally understood the Islamic threat and why Israel is so important. This is important, but equally important is that Israel thinks and acts as if it IS alone, because you never know what's round the corner. Maybe Obama will get reelected and really show his true colours. (up to now he has found it very difficult to hide them) Israel, in short, must pretend that it is the eve of its declaration of independance.

Obama betrayed his staunchest ally in the Arab world - Hosney Mubarak! This interesting article is marred by a factual error. Mr. Meoti writes that the presidents through Lyndon Johnson did not provide military assistance to Israel. In fact in 1962 over the objections of the State Department, President Kennedy supplied the Hawk missile system to Israel. Since then support for Israel has been bipartisan and deep.

The US has existed for a little over 200 years. During that period of time, the US has thrown EVERY "FRIEND" it has ever had, under the bus, in many cases repeatedly. Israel should expect that when the cost of Israel is higher than the benefit, no matter how much money Israel pays the congress critters, the US will throw Israel to the wolves. This has NOTHING to do with most of the citizens of Israel being Jewish, but a simple cost/benefit analysis. The citizens of Israel could be Christian and the same thing would happen (look at how many times the US has thrown the UK under the bus). This is why, as another poster noted, Israel NEEDS to integrate into the ME. Once the US gives up on Israel there are NO OTHER PROTECTORS (definitely NOT China - I KNOW China and they will NEVER protect Israel). For those posters that blame Obama, get real, regardless who is POTUS, if Israel causes enough pain, the US will walk away. In is historically inevitable the US will turn its back on Israel, it is only a matter of time. Maybe Israelis should re-think their future and how their current ACTIONS make that future very bad.
