Now what do the Haredim do in retaliation?
2. Why do we put up with the hara-dim?
jason white ,   afula, israel   (02.10.12)
There has to be someplace to exile them to? iran? gaza? Perhaps siberia? But not here!
3. Botticelli in my bedroom.
Michael ,   California, USA   (02.10.12)
I bought this beautiful large poster at the Louvre in Paris, framed it in Tel Aviv, and shipped it to California when I left. It hangs in my bedroom on the most prominent wall. I look at it every time before falling asleep and it gives me the positive outlook on life. When I wake up, I endure reading some of the comments here that I couldn't otherwise.
4. Post The Pictures Throughout Israel
yaakov ,   TA   (02.10.12)
Ultra Orthodoxy in Judaism is not different than extremes in any other religion: demeaning regulations aimed at women, denial of sexuality and separation from modern education so as to keep the masses in line---It so reminds one of other totalitarian entities across the world---and the real meaning of Judaism is lost in the muddle of mindless rituals...
5. Provocation
Joan ,   Haifa   (02.10.12)
2 things occur to me re: this article: 1)Yes,it was stupid provocation but 2)Since it was posters of nude or nearly-nude women, wouldn't it be more logical for *women* to have taken the posters down? Hmm...
6. walking around with their medieval outfit
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.10.12)
is a provocation for seculars , and it's not artistic nor esthetic at all . Spitting on girls , calling women sluts and so on , is worse than those paintings
7. Radical anti liberal seculars
Yoni the Jew ,   Jewish homeland   (02.10.12)
The seculars are the real radicals and not the settlers. The seculars provoke and hate the religious to the point where blood will boil over. This type of dispicable behavior is hypocritical of those who profess being liberal progressive and open to others. They are worse extremists than any extremist I know of since they are willing to insult and provoke straigt to the faces of the religious
8. Amazing how many Israelim have been duped into destroying
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.10.12)
their country. Any educated person from a country that has had a Civil War can see where all this is leading. The two sides just keep provoking each other, letting the media prod them along. This can't end well for Israel and when things within finally come to a head, that's when Israel's enemies from without will strike. Stop jeopardising the country and unify already. The two sides need to make an effort to understand the other, not just keep trying to provoke each other.
9. Gross misuse of art works
Israeli grandma   (02.10.12)
This vulgar and provocative act does not further goodwill and understanding between various strands of our population. After the recent media frenzy against a rash of "religious" extremist public behaviours, displaying semi-clothed images of women in a Haredi area is an arrogant and insensitive act.
10. haredim
bob ,   JLM   (02.10.12)
I am thinking that either we a crazy or the haredim are. Both of us cannot be sane. I would like to believe that we are the sane ones, but deep down i think the opposite. HELP!!
11. #2 Jason, Mr. Ronery
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (02.10.12)
You are really a piece of work, you want to turn Israel into North Korea.
12. Secular people enjoy degrading themselves
Zev ,   Israel   (02.10.12)
I'm surprised the femanists don't protest this. While some women's naked body may be beautiful I would think that it is demeaning to show it in public. Interesting how you don't really see naked men's pictures displayed.
13. #6: Still no justification for this type of
Israeli 2   (02.10.12)
provocation. It was done with mallice and in spite. It was like the Arabs' sneaky attack on Yom Kippur. This is purely sinat chinam!
14. what the translation into English leaves out...
Madison ,   Israel   (02.10.12)
is that these art works were put up as a response to harassment of secular women in the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood. A real pity that the full story was not included.
15. Our own appreciation of these works is irrelevant.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.10.12)
The fact is that everyone has different tastes and these paintings (though I consider them works of art) were chosen solely to get a rise out of the local population who has different tastes. It doesn't matter if this was in reply to some act by kharedim elsewhere, there shouldn't be any of this tit-for-tat nonsense. If I were an Israeli I would feel quite embarassed.
16. Ha ha nice one !
Haim ,   TA   (02.10.12)
17. To Michael No. 3 Botticelli in my living-room
Nurit ,   Israel   (02.10.12)
I also have a huge poster of Botticelli's Birth of Venus in my living-room, with a beautiful gold frame. So many visitors to our home stop and gaze in front of it. Such an amazing and inspiring work of art. I absolutely love it!! If this is the payback for secular women being called sluts by haredim, I think the latter have come off lightly!
18. #12 Naked men? Maybe next week
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.11.12)
Now you have given the poster people new ideas. Maybe next week they will put up pictures of Michaelangelo's DAVID statue. Putting up posters of works of art is a lot classier than spitting on 8 year olds and calling female soldiers and other women sluts. It is the haredim who degrade themselves.
19. Please Note!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.11.12)
The truth of the matter: "This may be intentional secular provocation , but that's what the haredi residents do in the neighborhood every day ..."
20. priceless
european   (02.11.12)
"... but could not remove them because it was the holy day and doing so would involve desecrating the Sabbath." LOL
21. #17 Nurit, A business idea: sell huge art posters
Michael ,   California, USA   (02.11.12)
I feel sorry for people who don't enjoy art. Botticelli brings so much beauty into our lives. It is hard to imagine Haredim can forego this pleasure. If I was in Israel now, I would start a poster business (since we cannot sell the originals) focusing on classical art. People could paste posters to their windows. Haredim would need to keep their eyes to the ground or completely stop going out to the street. That would beautify Israel immensely.
22. 8 Bravo Henry !
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.11.12)
23. no reason
alan ,   texas   (02.11.12)
this is pure hate. there is no reason to offend the haredim.
24. Its time you all grow up instead of acting like little child
Religious Jew ,   Jerusalem   (02.11.12)
An Eye for an Eye, whats next, all because some people claim that they are Charadim, because they wear black hats an black coats does not mean they are Charadim, they are sheep in wolves clothing, or better they are wolves in sheep clothing. Putting naked pictures up have upset people that had nothing to do with past events, infact those who put these pictures up have come down to the level of the ones who started it all off. Ashame on the "Charadim" who started it and ashame on the anti Charadim who continue. Stop acting like little children and get on with your lives.
25. Henry , it was NOT a provocation !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.11.12)
it was , as reported , a reaction to a charidi provocation . But those blacks don't tolerate anything , they are "allowed" to provoke everyone with their behaviour , but when we react , it's a scandal for them . They don't tolerate anything , we , the seculars have to toilerate them . You see , because of this behaviour , and words utterered here by someone , i also began to dislike those charidim . So instead of uniting the Israelis they , and some TBer , obtained a contrary result .
26. 25 OK Charles You are great!Happy?

Joe ,   Israel   (02.11.12)
This article was posted on Friday (yesterday) before Shabbat. When exactly did this happen?
29. 26 , Ora , No , not happy at all
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.11.12)
And you know why .
30. since haredi people don't visit art galleries,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.11.12)
sombody decided to show the haredim, what they are missing, whats all the fuss ?.Botticelly just portrait Gods beautful creation, even if the paintings were dressed up modestly, the haredim would still be angry ,because women are in league with satan,to lure pious haredim to sin, therefore the women have to be kept under lock and veil,a hasidic boy,an only child, who grow up with his female cousins, and regarded them as sisters, and played with them, when he was 10-11, his grand father, complained to his mother, this is not right, his mother responded,i am not going to tell him anything,(the men are the problem, not the women).
