1. If he dies he dies.
Ivan Drago ,   USSR   (02.09.12)
2. what?
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (02.09.12)
The article makes no sense. If he murdered no one, why not release him to Gaza like the hundreds of terrorists who murdered Jewish children? Hamas will take care of him. If he did murder, why waste tax payer money keeping him alive against his will? He starves in a cell with his wife? It is better than what his friends did to the Jewish children. Maybe Israel should rendition him to Gitmo. Let's see his wife and lawyer complain to Obama.
3. surely the food is not that bad, most
Barney ,   USA   (02.09.12)
pali prisoners appear to be on the verge of obese. Jews feel "humilitated" when terrorized, kidnapped, and denied their right to exist in their land. Must admit though, this guy has a lot of will power.
4. A measure of our humanity
Rain   (02.09.12)
The way we treat both our enemies and our friends is a measure of our humanity. There are far too many reports of this kind of behavior for us to ignore it.
5. The choice, live or die, is h is alone
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.09.12)
Just think, anytime that a prisoner, no matter what the crime was, wants to get out of jail, he's going to blackmail his jailers with threats of going on a hunger strike Prison's would empty out, thugs, murderer's, rapists, bank robbers all running around loose to do it all over again
6. Lets be objective
Mike ,   USA   (02.09.12)
We trust the judicial system of Israel and we believe that we have the smartest and most brilliant military force in the region, if not in the world. Its worth looking at this situation objectively. If security had something to proof he is guilty they should have used it to trial him by now. If not, and this is probably the case, they should simply let him go. Abusing power is inhuman and unethical; we have no right to throw people in jail just because we THINK they MIGHT be part of something. That will only grow hatred to Israel, which is already growing drastically.
7. one man's terrorist is norther's freedom fighter
Joy ,   NJ   (02.09.12)
8. 'Administrative detention' is common in dictatorships
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (02.09.12)
In any self respecting democracy keeping someone in 'administrative detention' is beyond the pale. If you arrest someone the police has a limited time to come up with a charge. If no charge is brought, the law demands the release of the person under arrest. This case is typical of Israel's treatment of the Palestinian population in occupied territory. It keeps people in jail under 'laws' or regulations it would never apply to its own population: we call this apartheid pure and simple. If Khader Adnan wouldn't have had the moral courage to go on hunger strike in order to highlight the travesty of justice Israel maintains in the Occupied Territories, many people would not have even heard of the Palestinians languishing in prison under 'administrative detention'.
9. Starving yourself in the name of terrorism?
John ,   Boise, Idaho USA   (02.09.12)
IF it was for a good cause, then perhaps his intentions would be felt. HOWEVER...in the name of a terrorist organization, especially an "armed terrorist group" which was undoubtedly bent on harming the innocent population. Israel must protect its citizens regardless of someones hunger strike, personal protest, or blatant views on how the world turns around. If the man is a threat, by all means detain him, whether he chooses to starve himself or not.. the very thought makes me hungry...so I'll have a hamburger in his memory
10. who writes this bilge?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (02.09.12)
"Palestinian society venerates the prisoners, overlooking their crimes and viewing them as freedom fighters." they don't "overlook" their crimes - they celebrate them! why does an israeli paper feel the need to reprint an associated press piece like this, which is nothing but apologia for islamic jihad's genocidal agenda? "Islamic Jihad... has vowed to punish Israel if Adnan dies. The group could fire rockets into Israel from its stronghold in the Gaza Strip, where it has recently built up a powerful arsenal of new weapons." or otherwise, islamic jihad will have to find another excuse to attack israeli civilians. so far, they have fired thousands of rockets into israel, just because israel exists. but that's an inconvenient truth that the associated press tries very hard not to tell its readers.

Yeshu   (02.09.12)
Tom, you should have learnt by now that AP [Associated Press] is a blatantly biased, systemically one-sided, always reliably anti-Israel indoctrination and propaganda industry, contrary to its artificial polished PR. Too bad it sullies the name of good America with its prgrammed anti-Israel campaign and bias!!!
16. Gilad Shalit WAN'T on hunger strike....
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (02.09.12)
