1. Israel PM in Cyprus' first State visit
mimi jacques ,   oob,usa   (02.16.12)
Mutual benefit for both Israel and Cyprus. Turkey (today's Hurriet Daily News) is besides itself- warning Cyprus with implicit threats on embarking on any exploration/exploitation (Erdogan g'ment's ukase)- it is provocative. Apparently Turkey/Erdogan g'ment does not like anyone succeeding- without their permission- whether Cypriots-Armenians-Kurds-Greeks-or Israelis.

They're right here a night's sail away, they're Christian, they're (mostly) Greek, they're cross with Turkey, we share gas-rich areas in the Med... Where have you been all my life??? A stormy love affair 'tis not but who said there's anything wrong with marriage of convenience?
4. I don't agree with Alon Liel on one point:
Ypip ,   Canada   (02.16.12)
Because the growing Israel-Cyprus alliance could hurt Turkey, (not Israel as he suggested) - "by driving Turkey even further into the camp of Hamas militants who rule Gaza." Anyone who gets involved with them gets hurt ...and very badly.

Oh, please! I have been to Limassol. I have been to Nicosia. I have seen thriving, neat cities with a strong economic base. I have also been to Famagusta. Like visiting London after the blitz. And no, Turkey will get no part of the massive natural gas fields discovered by Israel, which will be shared with the Cypriots. Were it up to me, I'd exclude Turkish Cyprus from the economic benefit that will be derived from the natural gas. The Turks have no claim to Cyprus; they never have. And they CERTAINLY have no claim to the natural gas fields.
