32. Hey, it's a free country. Help yourself to suicide if . . .
Ken Quinn ,   Jerusalem   (02.17.12)
Hey, it's a free country. Help yourself to suicide if you like. His cause is not just. I am sure there has been enough done to try to help this nutcase. Let's just pity all muslims, the islam is a DEAD END.
33. So, he should eat!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (02.17.12)
I don't thinks that starving oneself to death is a reason for becoming a Shahid. That is reserved for blowing oneself up and killing Jews, Christians and even other Muslim! Give him a plate of humus, a few pitot and his wife will be happy!
34. TBers miss the point
R Harris ,   London   (02.17.12)
In their general urge to delight over the imminent death of a Palestinian, the TBers here have completely and utterly missed the whole point of this piece of news. "Adnan is being held under so-called "administrative detention" that enables Israeli authorities to detain suspects without trial or charge indefinitely" I understand that his hunger strike is because he is being held without charge, indefinitely - rather similar to some of the men in Guantanamo. The solution is: charge the man. Provide some evidence that a court can examine. Put him before a jury - or even in a military court - but to snatch someone and lock them up, indefinitely on no charge is primitivism elevated to an art form. Perhaps the TBers might have some thoughts on the rule of law in Israel as opposed to the rule of the jungle mob.
35. #34 Harris - YOU miss the point
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.17.12)
"Adminstrative Detention" is what Israel inherited from the British, who at one time controlled the area, in the old days, it was also known as "Remand" Check you own history before you comment on ours Nobody is starving him, he made his choice quite freely If he were to be released because he's engaged in a hunger strike, then every prisoner in any jail, would emulate him to get themselves released IN some countries, using the USA as an example, they don't resort to Administrative Detention, they use high bail of hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars to retain the prisoner the prisoner in custody I seem to recall that a number of years ago, a groupd of Irish prisoners also starved themselves trying to get released, some died, did you protest then?

Administrative detention has long been a feature of Israeli law. Besides, this individual's very membership in Islamic Jihad means that he actively seeks the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people. That qualifies as a war crime, bubbeleh.

Aside from Guantanamo, as far as i know, the US doesn't use 'administrative detention' (i.e. state kidnapping). If you chose to read what I wrote, i suggested that the state should charge the man if they have evidence against him. As for your remark about Irish prisoners, I think you are referring to Bobby Sands, an elected member of parliament. it's so typical of sicko right wingers that when you run out of any defensible argument, you turn on the nationality of the person you are addressing. I am not an elected official, and I do not represent the whole history of the UK. I am a private individual with the right to opinions, just like you, so I suggest to keep your debating points centred on whether 'administrative detention' is acceptable under the rule of law, and whether, should you be arrested under the same law, you would also be insisting upon knowing what the charges are.

'has long been a feature of Israeli law. Yeah, and beheading has long been a feature of Saudi law, but I don't see you defending that on the point of traditionalism. Again, you wilfully ignore the point: if he is guilty of a crime, then try him. Although you think that membership of Islamic Jihad itself is a war crime, but I tend to think that membership of a Zionist party is a war crime, as they have as their aim "wiping Palestine" off the map. Moreover, I am not your 'bubbeleh' any more than you are my zeideh, so leave it out.

Perhaps you have heard of material witness warrants? That amounts to administrative detention, and is quite common in every jurisdiction in the United States. Although I will cheerfully assure you that no one held in administrative detention on a material witness warrant gets a conjugal visit with his or her spouse.

This man is a member of the Islamic Jihad one of the worst terrorist groups. They have been responsible for some of the worst terrorist attacks in Israel's history where the most innocent of Israeli civilians were brutally murdered. One such incident was the brutal murders of a pregnant Jewish woman and her 4 small daughters a few years back. The terrorists shot at their car, then when it was disabled, they went up and shot the children and their mother at close range. The Jihad gang called in and not only claimed responsibility for the terror act they also boasted about it like they did some wonderful deed. After the brutal murders of the Fogel family last year, where 3 small children, including a 2 month old baby, and their parents were all stabbed to death, the Islamic Jihad called the murders an act of heroism. Why you, or anyway else would have sympathy for people who openly brag about murdering women and children is beyond my comprehension.

"Palestine" doesn't exist, except in Arab and Moslem atlases. Israel did not start any of the wars; please do not fault us for having the temerity to win them. You are obviously woefully ignorant of the fact that the ersatz "Palestinians" have had no fewer than three opportunities for a two-state solution, and have rejected all three. The last offer would have awarded them 90% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a capital. It was rejected in favor of starting the second intifada. That did not go terribly well for the ersatz "Palestinians" but how is their inability to make reasoned decisions Israel's problem? There are approximately thirty-odd ersatz "Palestinian" organizations, each purporting to be the sole true representative of the ersatz "Palestinian" people. The only thread common to each of these organizations is that each of their charters calls for the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jewish people. They are not interested in peaceful co-existence with Israel; they are interested in supplanting Israel. And that -- bubbeleh -- is never going to happen.
