31. Mr Segal - ridiculous article
mba ,   Israel   (02.17.12)
By Mr Segals analogy, if Great Britian should evacuate the Falklands and turn them over to Argentina, then Israel should do the same with Juedea and Samaria. The logic is simple and legally sound.
32. apples and kneidlach
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.17.12)
This is about the zero IQ of Segal's comparison
33. Really?
Steve ,   UK   (02.17.12)
No doubt. Though not quite as expensive as bailing out Greece.......LOL!!
34. This article is simply RUBBISH
PO ,   Ramat Gan, IL   (02.17.12)
... how to compare the situations? Hagai fail to grasp even the simplest differences between Shtachim and Falklands. But he is so arrogant to write an article for YNET.
35. Hagai Segal is 100% right
Pedro ,   Brazil   (02.17.12)
Obviously that the islanders want to stay British and not Argentinians. After all they have occupied illegally the land for centuries, they are British, speak English, their relatives are British. and moved to the distant Island coming from Britain. And soon the British will start to build mosques there.
36. to #30
Leandro ,   Argentina   (02.17.12)
You have to be kidding me...are you by any chance calling argentinians a colonialist enterprise???...how can you be so hypocrite!!!! please...the story of britain is!!! wanna talk about it??? there is no continent you haven´t set foot on it (even my country apart from malvinas in 1806 during british invasion)... you have the well deserved name "pirates" . Thank you, bye.
37. Yes, but...
MG ,   NJ, USA   (02.17.12)
Although I do not agree with most of what is said in this article - for many of the reasons expressed by other talkbackers - I would like to point out other existing/unfair occupations that get very little press. Of course there is the Anglo/French/Spanish occupation of the Americas; the Russian occupation of Kalinangrad and the Northern Japanese Islands; the Chinese occupation of Tibet; the Indian/Chinese/Paki occupation of Kashmir; the Anglo occupation of Gibralter; the Morrocan occupation of Western Sahara; the Shite occupation of Southern Lebanon; the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus; the Armenian occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh; The Russian occupation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia; and the Serbian occupation of Northern Kosovo - to name a few... But of course, none of this matters when the agenda of an entire world body, e.g., the United Nations, is interested only in Israel.
38. Incomparable
David ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.17.12)
Whilst i do not believe the Brits to be innocent of hypocrisy there is one very pertinent difference. Inhabitants of the Falklands want to remain under British rule and Britain has stated that would the inhabitants choose to come under Argentinian rule britain would not object.
39. To kelpers defendants, you are wrong
chaim ,   Israel   (02.17.12)
The article is more or less right. Bloody UK expelled the Spanish/South American inhabitants when conquered the islands. So did Israel. And kelpers (second class Falklands inhabitants) voted to remain under bloody british government after the uk showered them with perks. Before the war kelpers were the trash of the british empire. AND FURTHERMORE, Yudah and Shomrom settlers will vote to remain under Israeli sovereign control, don't you read the polls? The jews by default and the palis by convenience. Or maybe you think they love to live under a maffioso pali governement? Please check twice before refuting the article author. British are the worst race in the world, and I tell you this as Jew, Argentinean and person.
40. British can rule settlements in EU
Dani ,   Amsterdam NL   (02.17.12)
This is what is happening
41. To #13 this the tipycal colonialist behavior
Dani ,   Amsterdam NL   (02.17.12)
Yes they want but they have no rights, or they have the rights of the British Guns like in Ireland.
42. The Falkland "Brits" are colonists
Dov ,   South Africa   (02.17.12)
So what if the majority of the current residents of the island wish to be under British rule. They're colonial settlers who have no business being there in the first place. The islands belonged and still belong to Argentina- forced historical settlement by Britain can't change this fact.
43. 25 - and the jews took it from whom?
jj   (02.17.12)
canaanites? should see if we can find any of them (that werent slaughtered and/or raped by your ancestors). that was a pretty thorough solution to the inhabitants of the land. that was also a land grab, right? or was that also "reclaiming". oh, right. here comes the "god told us we could have it" part. sure he did. sure he did.
44. Not to mention China's occupation of Tibet...
Carl ,   USA   (02.17.12)
and Russia's occupation of Chechnya. All these countries, western nations like Britain, France, Spain, Netherlands included, are projecting their own colonial history of brutal repression, subjugation and exploitation onto Israel, who wants nothing more than to live in peace with her Arab neighbors. It is the Arabs who have repeatedly chosen a path of bloodshed and are unable to accept the very existence of the Jewish state within any borders.
45. berlonski #2 you show the education of a 1st Grader
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.17.12)
Those COLONISTS were planted there by England. The US removed the Argentinians from the Malvinas and the British then occupied it. It is kind of like saying the Northern Irish voted to remain in the UK - when it's the British colonists that have voted and the native desires are ignored. But that is but a tip of the iceberg. China occupies Tibet, Russia numerous lands, US many lands, France - 2nd largest number of colonies around the world, the UK is still the largest empire in the world. The list is huge. As for the 'Palestinians' who just happen to be JORDANIAN COLONISTS they too occupy somebody else's land - namely ours and have become very attached to something that ain't theirs in the first place.
46. why blame the British.
Menahem ,   Yehuda   (02.17.12)
The Jews have to come to Israel and not call the country Palestine. This is what the Romans wanted. That the Jews will forget their country and more.
47. Falklands
Barry ,   Brentwood, Essex, U   (02.17.12)
I am a Brit and we have EVERY RIGHT to be there. These islands are indeed far away from Britain but when we settled them they were UNINHABITED. Argentina has NEVER had any significant number of settlers on the islands. If anything, Spain and France have better claims to these islands. The people there now are nearly 100% of British descent and wish to continue living under British rule. They are merely exercising their right to self-determination under the UN Charter. Tell me, how many times has Israel broken UN resolutions? If it wasn't for us Brits, you wouldn't have a country!
48. You dont need
Anton ,   Ist turkey   (02.17.12)
A lesson on that field ;)
49. The Falkander are SETTLERS
Daniel   (02.17.12)
The British expelled the local population when they conquered the islands --> TRANSFER !!!
50. The UK does not control the Falklands
Nic ,   UK   (02.17.12)
The islands are a self governing British overseas territory consisting of about 3000 people. The dispatch of naval vessels is for defence purpose. The reason they are in the news at the moment is because the Argentine president is attempting to divert attention away from her current failings (I'm sure she'd blame the Jews if she could). She accuses the UK of colonialism while forgetting that Argentina is a colonial power denying the land rights of native peoples in Patagonia.
51. Nonsense - the Falklanders want to stay British.
Jacob ,   UK   (02.17.12)
The people of the Falklands want to stay as part of Britain. These people are the indigenous inhabitants of the islands - they and their ancestors have lived their for hundred of years, and no-one else has. Britain should keep the Falklands for precisely the same reason that Israel should stop occupying Palestine: because that's what the indigenous people want. I don't know whether Mr Segal genuinely doesn't get this, or whether he's writing a deliberately disingenuous and dishonest article, but the stupidity required in the former case makes me suspect the latter.
52. Gibraltar
Ben ,   London, UK   (02.17.12)
To all the people who keep saying "HURR DURR WAT ABOUT GIBRALTAR?" 99% of the residents of Gibraltar voted to remain a British territory. What about Ceuta and Melilla? How can spain claim Gibraltar while it holds Morrorcan claimed territory?
53. Another popular argument...
Taylor ,   Earth   (02.17.12)
...is that because of ethnic cleansing of the native-Americans, Americans today have no right to complain about what Israel is doing. Makes sense to Sarah B and Ben Jabo. Perhaps it's not fair Israel didn't get their act together until the middle of the 20th century when, after many wars, the vast majority of the world's people had begun to frown upon ethnic cleansing and occupying people against their will. Hey, life isn't fair. Of course if you want you can keep your occupation (or indulge in worse as some here desire) but know this: even if the nations of the world allow it, it will rot Israel from the inside.
54. Falklands v/s West Bank
phil ,   UK   (02.17.12)
I agree..the approach is grossly hypocritical but...its the policy of the British Goverment who's foreighn policy is now set pretty much in far away Brussels...without influence from the left leaning bureaucrats on the continent i think you' d find us very supportive of Israel as it should be...the Falklands are as British as they are Argentinian we're only there for the oil...sound familiar!!!
55. A joke, right?
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (02.17.12)
The people of the Falklands chose to remain part of the British empire. There is no comparison, well not an honest one anyway.
56. Dont worry - England might lose ALL its Islands soon...
who cares   (02.17.12)
....including the one just on the other side of the channel... Things usually rotting from inside out....
57. How many Argentinians live in the Falklands?
Michael ,   sao paulo   (02.17.12)
58. repply
jony ,   sao paulo   (02.17.12)
that´s not totally truth . if it´s offered an israeli passport to muslims living in Judea ans Samaria they would accept immediatly. further these falklanders wich you talk about are pure british, off course they would want belong to Britain. How could the opposite be true ? .
59. lectures in colonialism
Leandro ,   Argentina   (02.17.12)
The islands are a self governing British overseas territory consisting of about 3000 people...yeah right, i thinkl you can explain haw those british nationals set foot in an island a few thousand kms from britain and close to south america, ah??? thats called colonialism something britain can lecture of.
60. international refugee state
Zivron   (02.17.12)
Since the British did not offer a million Jewish children and carerers and doctors sanctuary they can make amends now and the argentinians as they follow Jesus .
