1. Syria's divisions inherent & agravated by the Assads

Syria is a cocktail of ethnic & religious groups whose creation & borders are the result of abitrary backroom decisions of the UK & France the former colonial powers of the region when they split the Middle-East without regard for people self determination or for the social mix & perhaps with the deliberate objective of setting up territorial entities with divisive populations which would be easier to control by supporting one minority against the others & thus creating artificial loyalties. To this fundamental flaw Syria`s unity has been suffering from a succession of despotic regimes & has never been able to get a democratic regime which may have succeeded to accomodate the peaceful coexistence of the various clans, The subjugation of Syria by the minority clan of the Assad family, the oppression & massacre of other groups are the current real divisive forces tearing apart the country in a potential civil war or guerilla war. The unending crimes against humanity which are commited unrelentlessly with the support of Iran, Russia & China are adding to the probability that longer term the country will eventually split according to ethnic groupings with possibly more bloodshed as seen in the repraisals occuring in Libya after the downfal of the Gaddafi regime. But if the western countries keep staying away from effective intervention, the fate of the Syrians is not likely to change any time soon.

are afraid the same kind of internal revolt will happen in their countries that why they will not support a UN security council resolution, because they see it happen in the future in their own countries..
