We all know that plea bargains place unbearable pressure on the accused to accept things which are not necessarily true, since the risk of a greater punishment is used by the State as a weapon. The cost of defence is crippling. I wonder how many of you have been told to plead guilty, even though you feel yourself to be innocent, since the punishment meted out by the courts is of a much higher level for those not pleading guilty, but nevertheless, being found guilty, than it is for those who plead guilty and simply try to negotiate the sentence. This is how the justice system works in Israel. Pray that you never find yourself in this situation.
