1. Is it so?
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.23.12)
The law is the law for all you seculars - - - but not for us haredim!
2. no, Yishai, you're wrong!
nadav ,   tlv   (02.23.12)
the majoprity of the population do NOT want parasites living off their taxes to pay for them to NOT work, and NOT serve in the military!
3. Trust his to defend those parasites
Haim ,   TA   (02.23.12)
Eli Yishai clearly demonstartes the need to seperate state from religion.
4. He wants to postpone what is un-postponable.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.23.12)
His arguments are cynical ,to say the least. It is possible to implement the High Court's decision immediately, pending only with some perfectionings,if really needed, that can be done throughout the next year.
5. Yishai : You're NOT above the high court
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.23.12)
nor is any rabbi .
6. Nadav, I coulndt agree more!!!
Hagar ,   Tel Aviv- Israel   (02.23.12)
We are suppose to be the country of the ppl, the army of the ppl, why on earth should only the secular population, man and women, serve the country? Everyone should pay taxes, go to work and support their families and serve the country e.g civil service or else.... I dont understand whats not to understand, there shoulnt be a dedate about it at all.... this seems absolutly justified and rational. Enough is enough, over 60 years the hardehim have lived on others expenses, now its time to change that stupide law, that will not only be fair towards the none religious ppl, it will also boost up the economy even more and thats good for Israel! Ah and btw, we need general elections NOW!!!!
7. Heredim must become REAL MEN
ENOUGH! ,   Jerusalem   (02.23.12)
That includes working to feed their families AND serving in the army of the country they live. THEN they will be men and Jews that the Moshiach and King David can be proud of. Jewish men were never supposed to be the wimps we now see running around in black coats and smoking cigarettes all day.
8. Not in my name
Levi ,   Haifa   (02.23.12)
I for one do NOT value those studying Torah. A day's honest work, tolerance and understanding of the values of other communities living in Israel and serving in the IDF are what should be valued, nothing less.
9. Yo Yishai!
Rachel ,   US   (02.23.12)
People are tired of carrying the Haredim on their backs!
10. Don't blame poor Yishai! Blame Netanyahu!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (02.23.12)
Again, Prime Minister Netanyahu is proving to Israelis that he is more concerned with staying in power than in the welfare of the People of Israel and future of our young people. Netanyahu's son is serving in the IDF! Has Bibi no respect for his own kid? The Haredim, as we saw on last nights news, spit on the law (and young children) and people who love this country and Netanyahu just wipes it of his cheek and give them a few billion shekels to keep his Al Baba Government in office!
11. We should laugh the "haredim&assorted neurotics out of city-
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.23.12)
walls! Then we should cancell all their privileges, that are unacceptable in a sane & enlightened society. Then they should be left alone to practice whatever voodoo they choose to. All this process of pertractations with Yishai and his ilk is degrading to the sane, working majority. By what reason do they demand to be taken seriously and their claims given any validity???! The Torah? Really? They don't even follow THAT collection of fables and fairy-tales. It's beyond hutzpa!
12. To change this inequality is up to us
Reuben ,   Tel Aviv   (02.23.12)
If we want all citizens to have equal right and equal responsibilities, it is up to us. This mass inequality of burden on the secular people has gone too long. We can bring this change by not voting for the political parties which ally themselves with the religious political parties to form the coalition government. When we will have a majority government coalition without religious parties only then can we remove such inequalities. Until then these haredim senators will keep funding off public money to yeshiva's, stipend for students learning in yeshiva's , build cheap housing only for haredim and no army service for haredim.
13. Haredim & Religious Jews
Allan ,   PT   (02.23.12)
the ELITE of Israel and should not be forced to join the secular army. Secular Tel Avivians who shouldn't be dodging army service.
14. 13 , the elite ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.23.12)
Elite who abuse children ? are in jail ? want to go against the high court ? Elite , who live at secular's expense ? who don't contribute anything to the State . yes , nice elite ....
15. #1 A Jerusalemite
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.23.12)
How would you like a secular law that cuts off all public funding for Haredim....you get to live in your ghetto without interference into your lifestyle...and we do not have to pay for that
16. Tal law
Yoel ,   Israel   (02.23.12)
Mr. Reuben in is comments has said it as it should be said- the secular citizens cannot continue supporting these lazy religous people- They must serve in the army like all the rest-and busses on Saturday is a must not only for Tel-Aviv but the whole country.
17. So get on with alternative legislation, NOW.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (02.23.12)
Dont put it off.
18. I agree with Yishai on this one
zionist forever   (02.23.12)
If we are going to get rid of the Tal Law we need something to replace it with. We get rid of the Tal Law today and those students are not all going to the Kiriyah and say where do I get my uniform they will just refuse to serve. Draft dodging is illegal but plenty of people do it mostly the Tel Aviv peacenicks who think military service conflicts with their ideal peace process world. Get rid of the Tal Law the peacenicks will be joined by religious draft dodgers. Whats the army going to do if they force alot of religious Jews to serve and then they start demanding reforms in the army itself make it an institution that they can serve in? Pretty soon the generals going to be begging the courts to reinstate the Tal Law. Whist Eli Yishai's motive might be about just delaying any attempts to revoke the Tal Law until he has a plan of action we cannot bury our heads in the sand and the priority needs to be creating a civilian national service for these people not revoking the Tal Law and just making more problems. We have needed civilian national service for a long time now not just because of the religious but also for the arabs who we don't want in the IDF so lets use this as an opportunity to dream up something practical & useful.
19. Nr.13 the elite??
Anna ,   Jerusalem   (02.23.12)
The elite, are you kidding? Maybe before the Holocaust, religious scholars were the creme de la creme, but today, every Tom, Dick and Harry can study at a yeshiva. Most of them are of average or below intelligence, which can be seen in a lot of Rabbis today. There are no more Rabbis like R. Feinstein or R.Solovetchick. Most so called scholars are better of to do national service (that would be a good alternative to the army) and learn a trade! Like most religious Jews did 80 or more years ago!
20. Most Shas supporters serve in the Army
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (02.23.12)
as do their MK's, those who are bad mouthing Eli Yishai, ie 2/6/7/3/5/11. Hold your mounths for a few moments and think. It's not an easy issue to resolve, and we always forget the lefties and hippies who draft dodge. Yishai is right, in practice the Tal Law will be applied irrespective of the High Court until some sensible legislation is in force. But what are we to do with teh leftie draft dodgers a point highlighted by Army Officers during the Lebannon and Gaza war and forgotten about by teh bad mouthers.
21. #19 so you agree
Allan ,   PT   (02.23.12)
that seculars are certainly not elite as they consider themselves.
